Anyone else here a class rep? I am for HUBS191 and PHSI191, so if you need to talk to one at all for those papers, just PM me, or post in this thread..

Na, but I was tempted to volunteer when Neil had to ask again in physics the next day because there weren't enough volunteers. I felt sorry for him.

i kinda get that too sometimes, perhaps you're overstressed or not getting enough sleep?

I just had trouble focussing at my desk, but i laid on the floor to do chemistry and it helped a lot! We don't have internet in our rooms which is AWESOME.

I think i'm getting enough sleep, but for example today I wasted time doing my laundry and cleaning my shoes and stuff... not "laziness" but it wasn't study.

Doesn't help I went out twice last week :o

There's probably about 50 people who do get it, but for example, last year on my floor (greenglacier would know, he was in the room next to mine..) about 2/3rds of the healthscis got in? and nobody gets internet...

taking statistics out of context is fun!

You don't have internet...... I couldn't live.

Well that's not right. I could live and I would do better. But it wouldn't be as cool.

Do Carrington people pay the same as other halls? Cos wouldnt it be cheaper without internet? hmmm maybe not I guess

For 2010, Carrington is the cheapest hall, but only by a couple of dollars per week. This has nothing to do with internet though - we weren't the cheapest last year (I think knox was), and the situation was the same. Remember that the halls run on university wireless, which everyone pays for through the university (via the internet levy included in your fees).

The internet situation at Carrington is complex. We do get internet in the common areas, dining hall, and study areas, it's just most people don't get internet in their room. I think (but this is quite unofficial - the real situation sounds somewhat complex) that this just comes down to the nature of Carrington - if you've visited, you would have noticed that we have quite a different layout to other halls (lots of small buildings, spread out over a large area). This, along with the fact that we are on a hill, means that we'd need a lot of wireless connections set up to cover the whole college, and I think the problem stems down to the difficulties (monetary, installation practicalities, negotiations with the university) of setting this up, when only a relatively low number of students would benefit from each router.

It's hard to say what effect this has on study - I reckon it's easier to study in our designated study areas (which do have internet) than in your room. It also means that a quick internet browse can become extended as you keep wondering "is there anything else I have to do before going back to my room"?

Overall I reckon it probably helps study, but not by much.

I went on two occasions. Once a couple of days before the HUBS191 final exam, just as a revision opportunity. I spent just over an hour there and I felt it achieved a lot, and was a good way to vary my study. I also went once during second semester to have a good look at the hip bones so that I really had the structure under control.

While on both occasions I felt that visiting the museum helped a lot, and really clarified some things, they were fairly minor points, and a significant number were of a nature that'd probably never be tested.

If you can find an excuse for visiting though I'd definately recommend it - it's a fantastic space and has some excellent teaching aids.

And to think I was going to visit just for the 5% HUBS terms test

I'll probably check it out sometime in the semester, it's an excuse to have a nosey around the medical school buildings as well (as in just see what it's like on the inside...)
