See how long it lasts lol, I gave up on most readings just after mid semester break haha. Good luck with it(y)

I think pre-reading is a vital part of HSFY. However, I did not do all of it. I think that pre-reading can fill in some gaps but if you are a pedantic person (like Skyglow :p) then pre-reading can also raise many questions that might not be relevant.

Each to their own.

I've been doing the readings and taking notes while doing so, and in a sense, I feel that this prepares me for the lecture, where I can concentrate more on what the lecturer is saying. In the lecture, I add a few more notes to my own notes where things weren't understood, or maybe something extra the lecturer says. It seems to work well.

For current HSFYers: were we supposed to get a HUBS GLM book by now?

Hey,
I was concerned about this earlier today too, but I read on blackboard that we will be given the GLM books for hubs on the 8th of March.

Yeah I was worried about this too, considering at the moment we have been doing some structural basics for each topic so it seems like (for now) theres time to do the pre reading. Im just focusing on the lecture slides though because I got told a billion times thats all that you need to know for the assessment.

Hey, are any of you guys using PeerWise? It's rather addictive... while there are a lot of unintelligent questions available, there are a couple of clever ones which do catch one out on occasion.

I currently have the third highest rated question in HUBS

There does seem to be a few "points whores" simply putting out large numbers of low quality questions and answers.

I had a bit of a go with the CELS one. But I got sick of some really dumb questions. But I do think its quite cool. Haven't had a look at HUBS yet.

Yeah this thread has an insane amount of views, so there definitely is a legion of lurkers out there

Like me. But now that I posted I don't count. <_<

...

I'm one of those lovely lurkers but I don't have much to contribute.
I'm not in HSFY yet. I'm on exchange in Switzerland. Still deciding if I'm going to go back to school when I come home next year or if I will go to Uni.

Good to see you getting into it already.

Whoa that's outrageous! Next, someone who lives in a tent next to the Amazon river (with internet connection ;)) who wants to come to Otago will post here.

It's obvious lurkers reside here. I mean, this is the third thing that appears in google when you type in "what grades do you need for otago med"

What's the top 2?

it's actually the 5th link. the first two are the otago uni and faculty...

[offtopic]I've heard that there are 2000+ people in HSFY in Otago... Surely this isn't true?!?[/offtopic]

Some papers like HUBS and CHEM have over 2000 enrolled I think, but a proportion of these students are doing other courses like PE, chemistry majors etc. My guess is that the number of actual HSFY students is probably about 1500.

I doubt that there are 500 people doing a Chem major. I think at the current moment in time there may actually be 2000 people in the course. However, the best number estimate for HSFY would be next semester in the Epidemiology paper.
