If you want to watch "Donated to Science" you could ask the Auckland medical school - they'd probably arrange a screening and it shouldn't be a problem for them to get the (full length) version on DVD from Otago (I know that there are a few such DVDs floating around the Otago staff).

I feel stupid now? Why (didn't really pay much attention)
How you had your HUBS lab yet?

It's because it's multiple exposures superimposed over one another, meaning that the string appears not only overexposed (because it remains in multiple exposures) but also to be in the foreground, as there are exposures in which it isn't blocked by the golf ball shown.

I recognised it from a photography point of view. It wasn't something the lecturer talked about, I just mentioned it because it was the most interesting thing in the lecture, ha.

I haven't done HUBS yet, got it tomorrow. Judging by the response at my hall it's nothing to worry about, the exit test questions are on material covered in the lab. I'm going to miss dinner though :(

Oh yeah, no, I did know that! I thought you were talking about the ball on the string, which was randomly pulled out from behind that whiteboard that slides, and was then put away afterwards, for no obvious reason.
Personally, I thought the HUBS lab was really cool, and yeah, the exit tests are easy. I got 5/5 on the first go, although I'm not that sure that thats much of an achievement anyway.

Yeah the BET for HUBS lab wasn't as scarey as it sounded at first!
The questions were single sentences and straight forward.
Also the system is good, encase you read one of the sentences wrongly *cough* and get 4/5 itll let you do that 1 question you got wrong again.

What exactly do you do in the microscope tutorial?
Could somone please be kind enough to tell me ?

Cheers

Read the microscope lab manual of someone at your hall if you want an idea. It's a rather trivial affair, and it's not so much a tutorial as an opportunity to play with microscopes outside of lab time.

Ok, I did it lol that was way different than I thought...
I imagined we'd get like a short talk on aspects of the microscope etc lol

Does anyone here do pre-reading? previos HSFY tell me its pointless because it floods you with information that isnt even assessable.

Can previous HSFY students give their view?

Have they talked to you about HUBS prereading yet? There was a question last year that specifically tested on HUBS prereading. For the other papers, I would forget it, except for maybe HEAL192 if you're finding you get lost.

I've been doing the pre-readings for all the papers, it seems to help provide some understanding of what's going to be in the lecture.

Ideally I'd like to think it means I spend less time trying to figure out what is happening in the lecture and more time understanding what the lecturer is teaching.

I write my notes for HUBS and some of CELS with the textbook anyway so I would probably end up doing the readings afterwards anyway.

Considering that skim reading the chapters takes all of 15min it's not a big waste of time. I usually jot down some ideas while I'm doing it as well.
