It always seems to me that "nocturnal studying" is a product of procrastination...

A lot of people I've met who shun "study breaks" refuse to study for less than one, or even two, hour(s), which seems counterproductive when you have a number of unused periods shorter than that in a normal day.

My parents always put a lot more emphasis on celebration than I do, we went out to lunch when I got my entrance scholarship, and after NCEA results etc...

I think my parents just naturally expect me to achieve so it's no big when I do. I feel the same because I put the pressure on myself to achieve so when I do I feel like it's normal for me. I can't study past around 11pm. I just seem to fade and need sleep. So I always do mine before then. Just me I guess.

You don't necessarily need 7 A+ to get into Med. Trust me, I know. I only got 6. XD

You do need a good attitude to work. I think you also need like minded people around you because then you can always help each other. That's what I found in my first year and now most of the people that I hang with are still with me. :)

I know. I just felt that 7 was achievable and would effectively mean that I'd get into med regardless of the marks of everyone else (so aiming for 7 to me was a realistic way to distance myself from feeling competitive).

Yeah I've found this as well.

Thanks =), yeah i find that active learning is far more effective, lately i have been listening over podcasts whilst going over my lecture notes and i find it really helpful ^_^
 7 A+'s is ALOT, but i'm trying to achieve the most i can, so if those grades are necessary.. i'll try my best (yy)

I'm finding it hard to do group study because, each person has their pace of studying and some are faster learners then other, regardless of this, i'm going to do some group study to actively learn.

I just can't wait for Healthscience to be over, then i'll know for sure. Sigh

:lols: <-- these emoticons are cool ^_^

Lol the worst of health sci for you guys is yet to come!
With regards to celebration I felt the complete opposite to greenglacier. I was so confident I wasnt going to get an offer that I was starting to choose papers for a BSc, so when I got the email I thought I may as well look cos I know what its gunna say (other people took days to pluck up courage to look). So when I saw I got a med offer I nearly had a heart attack, lets just say that was probably the best feeling I have ever felt. I spent like 10 mins rechecking to make sure I was reading it right then dad took like another 10mins lol. But yeah my family just went out to dinner in Chch to celebrate, didnt get drunk like most people I know haha.

Its possible to get into med with only 1 A+, I know quite a few people who did. Possibly even a couple who didnt get any. So just aim for as high as you can:lols:

I'm finding group study hard... It's difficult to get a group going in such a way that it's worthwhile for everyone.

Cementing knowledge by talking things over works well though.

Wow:o, that's amazing but i'm pretty sure those who got into med with only some A+'s had really amazing UMAT score. Still, it's good to work hard... (yy)

Haha SASOL:lols: :P

Wow, i've never had something extraordinary happen to me in my life, so i wouldn't know the feeling of excitement/shocked you must have felted when you got in.

Oh well, my sister said use your time wisely in HSFY, so here I am ... in the library :D:confused:

Any of you's study much in the Library, i find it very motivating, but then again i got motivated to say YES to everything after watching Yes man. [OFFTOPIC]If only they used the "go f*** yourself joke in that movie"[/OFFTOPIC]

I think the best thing to do in a group is do exam questions and then discuss your answers with everyone. I think that works better than going over notes/concepts together. I find in a group situation there are more distractions, but thats just me and personally I like to study alone

You stayed in Dunedin? What hall you at?

I need to stop considering MSO a relevant page to have open when studying... I'm not used to having internet whilst studying...

And yeah, I can't study with my friends at all, it descends into hanging out. I believe we're overthinking way too many things here anyway...

Some didnt actually have a great UMAT, which is surprising. I never went to the library, I usually just studied in my own room.

I don't like to study with my friends, they are far too distracting, yesterday i ended up playing games on my computer >_<

And MSO is distracting :( but my friend told me to make friends/ get advice here ...so i'm keeping my promise :)

Who are you asking about the hall?

Your story is pretty similar to my friend (except the opposite in terms of academics ), he had an amazing umat and great interview for UNC in Auz but he performed well below his expectations for NCEA, he was going to come to Dunedin... luckily the Admin at NewCastle saw how valuable he would be as a Doctor. Only sad thing is i don't get to hang out with him anymore :(

I think he was asking you about the hall

Lol dunno about making friends here, us 2nd years are yet to meet each other! haha

Lol, Skyglow1 turned out to be my tutor haha.
Oh in that case, i'm staying at Hayward, so close to Library. AND I NEED TO GO LIBRARY.... my hall has very few rules on Alcohol FML.

That's what I was thinking! Although I wouldn't know greenglacier if I didn't post on here, but then again, we are staying at the same hall.

This place is really most useful because it provides an avenue for us to talk to 2nd years - I wouldn't use it otherwise.

And pfft- alcohol is all good, you need to have a good time now and then.

FML, i should get off this page... or else i won't get any study done :(
I think i'll check for updates before dinner now.

And .... yeah Alc+Me= ohh crap what happened last night?. So yeah not drinking til end of Sem ^.^

I'm studying and on MSO....... does that mean I'm not actually studying?

No drinking games except at Med-Stein. Maybe you should start one SASOL?
