It's a shame they only tested a fraction of the module. I wish it had more questions so tiny mistakes ( like the ones i made) wouldn't take a chunk out of that 20 percent grade ><

Oh well, lesson learnt- Study more effectively ><"

Good luck health scis for the crappiest terms test of them all!

All the smart cats at Aquinas said it was a piece of cake. Apparently everyone was confused about what all the hype was about xD. They said they over studied for it.

I think they decided to take it easy on you HSFYers this year =)

yea it was really different than previous years it looked like, it felt quite short.

the questions were;
- functions of ribosomes, golgi, smoothER and another organelle which i forgot
- explain how the photosynthetic eukaryote arose according to the endosymbiotic theory
- state 3 functions of vacoules + give an example of each(this may cause me to lose 1/2marks because i couldnt think of how to write an example properly for 1)
- 3 pictures one showing phagocytosis one pinocytosis and one receptor mediated endocytosis
- then it asked how cholestrol from ECM is brought into cell (what type of endocytosis)
- what cellular mechanism is involved with release of hormones
- if the amount of hormones a cell had to secret increased how would the interior (ithink it said that) the cell change
- what reasons could be behind a lysosome digesting a mitochondria

then a bunch of genetic questions

i.e. say a translocation occured between 2 chromosomes how many homologous pairs would be expected to be seen in meiosis

Mleh- We'll find out how we all went I guess!

I'll be annoyed if I don't get an A grade.... quite a high possibility of disappointment really.

for the genetics part did how many chromosome pairs did you guys put i.e. the last question? i was little confused on that..
also there were two X's right? on the last picture so 1 barr body?

also did you say cell X = increase in smooth ER

no point going over the answers, we can't change it anymore

I'm not going to say what I put but i'll highlight that it was a PROTEIN hormone which was secreted.

On realisation that an A is above 30, I'm not too worried. A+ is 31.5...

If you're thinking what i'm thinking Chickenpie.... that's what i put as my answer :)

Although, that question can have more than one answer in my opinion.

I hope i got above 30, we'll see... no point thinking about the past.... we got a tonne to achieve, doing good in a 20 percent exam isn't the same as a 60-70 percent exam, more content ... more room for failure/success.

Oh man i just had my chem lab test and i wrote the wrong answer and sat like an ass for 8 mins until i noticed it was wrong ... by the time i was about to change it time ran out ... Oh well ... best 5 out of 6 .. looks like i can't screw up my other 3 labs anymore.

That sucks, chem labs are a bitch

Lol pretty bad, only got 83% of the 15%, screwed up in like 3 labs I think

Lol you say you did bad in everything ... yet you got like what ? a 94 percent GPA :P too pro xP

Man i miss home made food, i dunno how i'm gonna survive 4-6 years away from home, hehe .. mum's sending food from home this week ^^ omnomnomnom

Anywho...back to reality .... 3 out of 4 labs left for this week. 2 on the same day.... :(

Lol I did do quite bad in first semester, just managed to turn it around second.

Yeah I miss good food, the food in my flat is probably worse than what my dog would eat lol:lols:

[offtopic]Hate to say it but Carrington food is probably better than home... Taste-wise it's about the same, but the extras make it all that much better.

I don't get 3rd dessert every night at home!

Just read your subtitle SASOL, I think we're doing double scrumpy hands after CHEM :D[/offtopic]

Who else is loving the ridiculous questions they've put in the physics textbook?

I don't get how the physics exam has some question worth 1 mark which you can solve in 2 seconds and other physics questions that can take like many many many minutes :S

Haha bro scrumpy hands is awful ay, but we keep doing it. At least the sick taste leaves after a while. Might steal your idea of the scarfs next time cos last time I did it my hands froze.

yea i know the test is over, but can anyone else confirm the number of X's in the last picture.

Also chickenpie you are right, and I think they even said that the questions would be kind of irrelavent as the book is internationally sold now :S

So that it can cater to all abilities. If it was just lots of easy questions then it would be very poor at ranking people trying to get into med, but if it was just a few hard questions then it would be very poor at determining who should pass and who should fail the paper (even if scaling were used). Hence a mixture.

Ideally the exam should have a hierarchy of questions (like NCEA had achieved, merit, and excellence questions) with your final mark being determined by how many questions you get right and what questions you get right, but the current form (mix of easy and hard questions) still achieves its purpose pretty well.

[OFFTOPIC]Woohoo, 19 today, one more year and i shall relinquish my title as a teenager.[/OFFTOPIC](yy) Too bad no partying ..... damn physics midterm :S
