Hey guys...

Just another update on 2nd year biomed:
The workload has increased dramatically, as has the difficult of the papers. I've had 1 Physiology test (SAQs, worth 15%), 1 Anatomy test (25 MCQs, worth 10%), 1 pharmacology (mixture of MCQs and SAQs, worth 10%) and 2 Micro tests (one with MCQs and essay, and another with all SAQs...this is the one I want to expand on right now...).

Today, I had a 15% MICR221 term's test that was based on our first four labs. Never in my life have I encountered such a ridiculous test. It's fair to say that I've never really sat a lab based test before, but this test was undoubtly the hardest/most unfair test I've ever sat. They assessed us on the finest details of the lab manual (including the value of one unit in the calibrator of a microscope lens under 40x and 100x, the specific diluent in a specific broth for a specific bacterium (basically like memorising a bar code...THAT insignificant). The real problem, however, wasn't in the actual questions themselves, but rather the weighting of each question. Our lecturer thought it wise (for reasons that surpass my intellect) to assign 2 marks to each point made. For example, if there was a question that asked you to list two reagents, that question would be worth 4 marks as each point counts as 2 marks. This means if you miss out one fine little details, BAM! 2 marks gone just like that. To top it off, the test is worth 100 marks contributing 15% to the final mark. Any minor f*** up and that 15% gets reduced dramatically. It's just a really unfair system I think.

But aside from that, Biomed has been really great on the whole. Interesting papers and lecturers (for the most part), but I must say, I really don't recommend taking 4 200 level papers in one semester. It's actually a fair bit of work (I'm up to my knees in lectures that I have to catch up with T_T)...But yeah, so far it's looking great.

92% for ANAT term's test, 94% for pharmacology term's test...and expecting a low 80's for this next micro test (sigh)

Hope everyone is loving Health Sci / Med :)

Another HSFYer

Hey, I just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm new to this forum, and studying HSFY. Congrats on the 100% chickenpie (y). Hopefully Chemistry went as well as Physics. Are there any other HSFYers lurking around?

Hmmm... I'm so behind on everything, gargh! It feels like everyone is onto it.

Welcome squigglypencil! I remember at one point in healthsci I hadn't written up notes for nearly 50 lectures O_O.

Hey SquigglyPencil!!!

Welcome to the dark side.

Oh noooo, not the dark side! Unless... are there cookies? :D

Holy smokes skyglow1. How'd you manage to stay on top of things?! Oh, don't tell me... you're one of "those people".

I caught up on Cells and most of Chemistry today. Hurrah! I don't even know why I'm still awake. I need sleep. Yay to only 2 lectures tomorrow. (yy)

O I have cookies alright. (yy)

Good work on catching up. How are you finding your first year in Uni?

By going through one of the most intense cramming periods I've ever had ><

Ah... intense cramming periods, I seem to having a lot of those lately. <_<

My first year in Uni is pretty good. I thought I'd be living at the library but I've managed to maintain a social life (sort of...). Perhaps too much of a social life. I feel so guilty sometimes!

What about you guys? Having another fun year? Chemistry results tomorrow. Eek...

Fun? I'm probably not the right judge about that. I could probably have fun what ever the circumstances. Although I have been finding that this year has a been just as slack as last year. Not sure if that is a good thing. Good luck for your results. (yy)

Don't worry about being social bro, as long as you get the marks it's all good.

I used to worry but I know that I'm on top of everything, and when you think about it, for me anyway, I'm not exactly spending tonnes of time socialising- don't really go out or anything.

I totally agree with you. You have so much time for socialising after you get into med. :)

Hmm I've lost all work ethic this year....not good:lol: But the social aspects of my health have sky rocketed!

That's what I like about about Med. (yy)

They'll give you the paper back at the next lab (I had mine today).

Shot bro! You will so be in med after your degree with those marks

Thanks a lot man! I really hope I can keep this up.

I love the fact that we've reached 200 pages! ^_^
