Good luck HSFYers! I doubt many of your BIOC marks will have changed (unless they were clearly wrong to start off with), but it'll be good to have some certainty at least.

Indeed. I was kinda hoping my mark would go up as I felt really good after the exam. Never mind. At least the waiting is over. FOR NOW.......!
I edited my mark and ranking score accordingly on the other thread!

I really want to know what happened to Doodle . I hope her mark has changed for the better. Please keep us posted!

Ha, no definitely agree about txt books and accommodation and stuff, but I think studying through the holidays is a bit excessive. There will be plenty of time for that in health sci - I think enjoying the summer holidays while they last would be a better idea. Also, I think health science is a bit exaggerated in terms of the difficulty of workload of the course - you can get good enough grades without studying through the holidays and while having a life at uni too.

Ok, this may seem like a really retarded question but on the risk of embarrassing myself, here it goes.

What is the best way to find the study method that suits you? And as quickly as possible?

By trying them out ...

There isnt an algorithm for you to follow.

You just look at the face validity of different study techniques -> try out the ones that feel most appropriate for you -> disregard the ones that dont work and try out different configurations of the strategies that do work -> evolve out the perfect study plan for yourself -> follow it.

First of all, two questionnaires to help you get a rough feeling of how your work should be set out (visual vs verbal etc), other than that you'll have to try it out.

Questionnaire 1: Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire
Questionnaire 2: https://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=questionnaire

Other than those rough guides you'll have to try out different locations and techniques and see what works best.

VARK said:
A learning style has 18+ dimensions (such as preferences for temperature, light, food intake, biorhythms, working with others, working alone). VARK is about one preference - your preference for taking in, and putting out information when learning is the objective. Although it is a part of a learning style we consider it an important part because people can do something about it. Some other dimensions are not open to change.

I'm not sure if this is a realllly weird question or not but what's the earliest start time for lectures? (Since I'm at Salmond and it's 15mins away)

And do we have a lamp in our Residential Colleges??

The earliest lecture stream is 8am. In first semester of 2011 this time was HUBS191 and CHEM191, in second semester 2011 this time slot was BIOC192.

Hmm, lamp... I'm not sure if colleges provide lamps (EDIT: honestly can't remember if I saw lamps when I visited my friends in their college rooms >.>), but I do think you'd be able to get your own if they don't provide one.

Pretty sure all the colleges provide desk lamps. Everyone needs them and it'd be a bit unreasonable to expect you to buy your own.

Yes Salmond gives you a lamp, i was there last year.

Regards to textbooks.. check out places such as trademe for the easy quick alternative to buying brand new

Cheers about the lamp questions guys hahah :)

And wow....8AM lectures- that sure beats school :P- it'll be exciting nonetheless :D

Hehe. I wouldn't actually mind 8AM lectures. I find I'm definitely more awake and alert in the morning :D

Don't know how to do one of those offtopic boxes but crucible1317, I love your signature- esp the literature lover part

8am would be sweet as, because at that stage of the day my mind is still functioning well enough to string together semi-coherent sentences. It tends to be downhill from there though.

Does anyone know where unipol is? Apparently it's shifted into a stadium or something?
