Yeah that's what I read. Shirt and tie every night? dude.... not sure if i can stand a whole year of it. It'll be so much trouble just for dinner.

Hum from what I heard from my friends who went to Knox, I thought it was only formal dinner on like sunday every week or something.

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering how many people go back home during the first mid semester break, over easter.. Like only a few people? half? just about everyone? I'm thinking of staying to save money on air tickets, but I don't want to if there's only going to be like, say, 10 people left at Carrington >_<"

Btw, Otago asked that my course fees be paid by today, yet on mystudylink it appears that studylink is still "confirming study details" - is everyone else at this stage as well?

Oh and one more thing (probably a silly question lol), is supplementary assistance available to tertiary students on top of the student allowance?

Thanks ;)

Re: Fees
I think everybody using a student loan is in the same boat. See attached pdf for details in student load paragraph.

Hum from what I heard from my friends who went to Knox, I thought it was only formal dinner on like sunday every week or something.

Yea sundays are extra formal with waiters and candles and musical performances..

This is from the booklet..
"Residents are expected to ‘dress’ for the evening meal on every night of the week except for Saturday. This means that men are required to wear shirt, collar and tie with a sports jacket or blazer."
"The evening meal each Sunday is more formal...The meal is served by waiters to residents at their tables. Waiters also clear the plates and serving dishes. Entertainment between courses is provided by residents and guest. Sunday dinner, which is by candlelight, is one of the many wonderful features of Knox and considered a weekly highlight.."

So yeah should be interesting

Wow I thought that Knox always seemed kind of... hmmm, how would you say it... snobbish? elitist? (lol sorry n.n") But formal dinners would actually be quite enjoyable :)
I think we have them at Carrie too, but I don't know if they are waitored or if they organise entertainment for the evening.. lol

Haha yea I thought that as well when I went down to visit early this month. I kept thinking to myself hopefully I won't become a snob by the end of the year. I agree that the sunday dinners sounds quite pleasant, it's just the weekdays that's putting me off a bit

At my hall, I'd say over 3/4 left during the mid semester or intersemester breaks. Most people either left during easter or the mid semester break, not both. It's quite empty during the breaks as a result. If you do want to head back during the breaks, you'll want to book the flights asap because it can save you ALOT of money considering everyone else has the same idea and books early. I've already booked up the intersemester break and got cheap flights as a result. Also consider pacific blue too as they often have cheaper flights than air NZ.

On the back of your invoice for your fees, it explains that all you need to do is have applied for your student loan before the due date for your fees, which you obviously have done. After doing course approval, studylink will finalise your loan and everything and you'll be sorted.

Lol docca I guess it'll be a good break from HSFY...We only had things like that at all our hall like once or twice in the whole year lol.

is there a seperate website for all the residential colleges at otago?
I'd like to see some pictures and facts & figures, rather than only just the abbreviated list on the otago uni website.

I'm really considering HSFY at either otago or auckland as an option into medicine.

I'm an international student

Hi folks:
I will be going to do HSFY as well this year. I'm an international student, so does anyone know about the international student entry into Med???
Also for that english diagnosis test, is it hard??? What would happen if I fail that test??? I only did NCEA year 12 English last year...
Thanks

All Otago HSFYers, listen up!!

I came up with the idea of forming some sort of a study group whereby me and several others can meet up like once or twice a week and discuss questions/answers related to HSFY papers as well as UMAT and interview p rep (for Dent hopefuls). We can meet up at the library or at someone's college, or wherever...but if you're interested, let me know and we'll sort something out. I was thinking like, throughout the year during the meet-ups we mainly focus on concepts/questions that we don't understand and together, we can find the solution and help each other out. A mutual relationship. Then nearing the end of the semesters before exams begin, we can start focusing on past papers. Also, during the long break after 1st semester exams, we can sort out UMAT study sessions etc. Together, we can keep each other motivated and focussed on our primary goal - getting into med/dent. As Henry Ford once said - “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

Let's do it guys n gals! ^_^

No it's not hard at all. NCEA L2 english is like overkill for that test lol. If you fail it doesn't even matter, because you can just tell them you passed L2 english so you shouldn't have to sit the test. Sorry I don't know about international entry.

Awesome! Already two ppl. I know some other people who are also interested, but we should keep numbers to a bare minimum. This will be really helpful!! :)

oh yea definately in..

and yea like koochkooch said.. we don't really want the whole of hsfy in... not that i'm being selfish (a bit maybe??). I say around 5, 6?

I had the same thought of getting a group like this.. but was thinking of sorting it out down there.. You're on to it koochkooch... Good on ya.
