I think course book is like, a booklet of printed black and white pages written by the Staff whereas a text book would have like, colourful diagrams etc.

Wow.. textbooks damn sure are expensive.. How much are your books this year skyglow? $700ish if I get everything (highly doubt I will though)

Erm our list is absolutely huge but of course we don't need all of them. Last year's class voted 3 books that they used regularly so I'm getting those ones.

Btw for HSFY, do NOT stress about textbooks. In my opinion only the HUBS one and the HEAL one were useful last year, and possibly the CELS one to a degree. If I were to do HSFY again I'd just get the HEAL one and borrow the HUBS and CELS one from other people in my hall cause they never used their own lol. This year though that PHSI textbook/coursebook will be useful so definitely get it.

A textbook is like a textbook with nice pages and everything. A coursebook is like a collection of detailed notes for the course.

Textbook pricing

The physics textbook is NOT $100. It is $38, and is now available from Uniprint. See the physics department website.

https://www.physics.otago.ac.nz/px/courses/physics/phsi-191

:)

The textbook is in colour, but as it is a work in progress, there are not yet the numbers of worked examples and problems that most textbooks have.

The other material available (but not yet) is just the lecture slides all in one booklet, in black and white.

I'm on the 19th.. afternoon flight so probably get in around 6ish.. Hey I read on the other thread that there are shuttles right? Do we need to give them a call or are they always there? And where do they drop us off?

Off the Dunedin Int. Airport Website:
"There is currently no bus service between the airport and Dunedin. Taxi fare from the airport to Dunedin is typically around $60. Shuttles vary from $20 to $60 per person depending on how many people are in the shuttle at any one time. "
Anyone on flying on 20th, ie this friday, arriving at Dunedin on flight NZ439 at 4.15pm, or thereabout on any other flight, want to share a shuttle or taxi? I know it's a long shot...

Haha it's funny you should say that... I was just freaking out about my student loan as well (you're not alone :) ), until I read the information on the main StudyLink website:

"Remember, you must be fully enrolled in your course for us to be able to pay any part of your Student Loan."

So when our courses are approved (on 20th, 23rd or 24th), Otago will contact StudyLink and let them know that we have been enrolled in the course. Then StudyLink will pay our course fees ($5700ish).

Are you applying for living costs as well?

Sorting everything out on studylink is so much hassle.. They wanted my bank account number so I sent them a statement. After a few weeks they returned it (as it was an original) and the next day I got another letter asking for my bank account number!! wtf! Exact same thing happened with my parents tax income.. I ended calling them up everytime they asked me to send something in to make sure if they really wanted it.

Yeah I'm getting living costs as well

I think there'll be many uni students on flights during those few days.. I'm going on the 19th.. jeez that's in 2 days. arriving at around 5ish..

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Applying for an allowance is even worse! They sent me like 10 letters in total, and I ended up getting declined. What a waste of time and effort.

Btw, on 'PIMS' under "Fees Payment" does your "WINZ Loan Contract Finalised" say Yes or No?

Don't worry. There'll be a billion other students wanting to use a shuttle too (friday, sat and sunday will be the busiest times), and also other people wanting to get to Dunedin. Every time I used the shuttle there were are least 5 other people in my shuttle, and it usually costs only 20 or 25, but you can ask before getting onboard. 60 bucks is only if you fly on a very strange date like a random time during the semester, and your flight is pretty empty. There was one time when I needed to go home on this random day and on a random flight, and even then there were like 3 people in the shuttle so it only cost 30 bucks.
