Lol med is a risky business. Patricia Priest could run a study lol. I often enjoyed sleeping up the back in lectures, people mus have hated me.

How may people in a tute skyglow? Do we meet out tute buddies at orientation or later on?

Im happy for the pass/fail thing, means I wont look dumb when i dont get a distinction lol......no extra effort needed:drool:

Oh and elephantine, what hall did you go to?:)

10 to a tutorial, although that may or may not increase with your larger class size. Some tutorials are bigger like pathology. You meet them later on when you start the course. I'm amazed at how many people go to sleep in med lectures haha.

Oh cooking.....right....um....does toast count? lol, can't wait for flatting, gunna be mint. 6 males who can't cook will be a laugh for sure!

Is there more than one elcture stream?

Hey chickenpie what school did you go to ?
Hamilton Boys.

How is HSFY separated, do they have two sets of lectures in each paper or something? There always seems to be a terribly large number of people enrolled... they can't all fit in one room, maybe not even two?

That's partly why I was so keen to go to Carrington, I had heard a lot of HSFYers got into med there. While that doesn't mean there's a direct correlation to success, it means there will be at least plenty of others in the same boat...?

No (for our year anyway), but there are 4 streams for labs and tutorials: A1 A2 B1 B2. Not sure what's gonna happen for your guys' lectures because I don't think your class can fit in the lecture theatre we used.

3 lectures per paper per day, identical to one another pretty much (although there might sometimes be different lecturers for different streams). Sometimes there might be multiple lectures on at the same time in different rooms, and they use live broadcasted video to do that.

It definitely can't hurt to surround yourself with motivated students who share the same goal with you. I think I would've benefited from such an environment quite a bit.

Chickenpie..I think I know who u are..but yea..lets keep our identities secret for now..if u havent guessed it..think of a sultana...lol...

haha it'll be fine just make sure you pick something that won't go bad in a day or two that way you can make a huge amount and put it in the fridge and reheat/eat for 2 days after that ...saves time ...i did eat out a lot close to exam/tests to save time tho ..so yeah..the main pain won't so much be the cooking itself but the time it takes to cook

Don't remind me of biochem haha.

I stayed at Carrington, mainly because of the reputation for good food. While I didn't think it was great (I'm kind of fussy), it wasn't too bad, and we got dessert every night. I heard some other halls only had dessert a couple of nights each week. The chocolate sauce they make is amazing! So so good.:) The study environment was great, nerdy enough so you could study without feeling like a loser, but laidback enough to have a good time. I never found it overly competitive, and everyone was pretty friendly and helped each other out. The hill is a killer though, especially when you have to go up and down a few times each day! Also when it's icey it can get pretty bad, I think it took about 10 minutes to go like 10 metres once. If you ignore the hill, it's a pretty awesome place to stay!

I've heard that they may be cutting down on the number of international students to make up for the increase in domestic students in med, so maybe the class size won't be too huge compared to yours skyglow. I hope so anyway. Our orientation things are still in Colquhoun, so I suppose we can theoretically all fit at once.

Yeah, Carrington was pretty cool, and the food definately made up for the hill (I almost liked the hill sometimes in that it got us well away from the campus). Agree with Toorak - never felt like I was competing with any of the (huge number of) other health scis there. Apparently the number of health scis at Carrington is set to keep increasing, which I suppose shows its popularity (2010 had something like 700 1st choice applicants for just over 200 spaces so don't feel too bad skyglow!), but is also causing problems because I don't think anyone wants it to reach 90% HSFY...

Lol skyglow you will die. You will survive 6 weeks max. before your brain runs out of ketoacids. hahahaha

I hope you die from starvation too

Oh if you guys having your orientation in there then I guess you're good to go. Cutting down on international students would make sense.

Staff at Carrington must be pretty chuffed with how many med students the college is churning out and how popular the college is!

Hey I would like to put a bloody end to this business of Smaggies burning each other's notes. This seems to come up every year. It annoys me so much that people need to make up stories about Smaggies. This is ridiculous. Burning each other's notes is a waste of time. No way anyone does it at Smags. I would know.

As to the Smags people not telling you the answer, I'm not so sure. I really hope that isn't happening. I don't know why they would.

Yeah the dates are on blackboard. Friday 2nd April to Sunday 11th April, which includes both Easter and Otago Anniversary Day.
