Yeah the dates are on blackboard. Friday 2nd April to Sunday 11th April, which includes both Easter and Otago Anniversary Day.

Damn Med School taking away our holidays...... (n)

At least you got to experience the awesomeness of a two week mid-semester break last year. Annoying one week break during semester two this year...

I know. It's pretty bad. I'm pretty sure we voted for having 2 weeks for the second semester again. Not sure what happened there. But it seems like that's what we have this year. I guess the thing to do would be enjoy the holidays now before you have none.

smags do burn their notes...after their exams have finished! lol
yea, living there over a year i've never seen anyone try to sabotage anyone's chances
any chance of spilling the names of the people in the lab?

I don't remember their names, but I could point them out in the street lol.
I'm getting really bored of the holidays though, but no doubt when it comes to mid semester break I'll be wanting more.

I know how that feels. I'm feeling it right now and want to get back to studying.

Last summer I couldn't WAIT to get back down to Dunedin, but that's because I didn't do anything that summer and was bored out of my mind rotting at home :D This summer I used my time better and now I don't want to go back :(

Don't joke Skyglow. I know what you are doing. (y)

I only want to go back so I don't have to work. I want the money though. Anybody got a quick fix? Med is so chilled. I love it.

Well I have a broken arm so can't work, great excuse lol. Maybe I should apply to ACC for some kind of being unable to work benefit hahaha. I have money saved from sheep shearing and other stuff last year so luckily I won't be too poor....yet. And I'm taking my bed and crap down so don't need to buy stuff.

Don't work? lol I'm not working, so just been sitting round home all day everyday.

Good stuff. That's what you should be doing after HSFY. Gutted about the arm though. More time to chill!!!

Yeah was so tired from health sci man, working would just be annoying straight after. Though Im kinda in the wops at home so I dont see people often lol, last year I stayed at my grans house in Chch and worked......wasn't as boring:lol:

Christchurch seems the life of the party for people studying at Otago. I now have so many friends there. Crazy to think I didn't know anyone there before I started Uni.

Yeah there are so many Chchians at Otago man, but I went to school there so knew quite a few already. Chch isn't as seedy as Dunedin, has better bars and clubs, hands down!

It's weird, but only about 10 of the 200 in my year 13 class (Christchurch high school) ended up at Otago. I totally didn't expect it to be the case, but most of my friends at Otago live in Wellington...

What school did you go to SASOL?

I noticed heaps of Chch people at Otago too, but I suppose its cheaper for them to study medicine at Otago than Auckland. Only 3 people came to Otago from my year at my school, but its in the North Island and generally not many people come to study in the south. I think they are afraid of the cold and need to harden up.

I never knew Carrington was so popular for first choice, funny, I thought that was Arana.;)

Lol yeah, I remember at the toga parade where they would always chant 'Arana was our first choice'.....my personal fave was 'F**k Arana' haha. Man I wish they had the toga parade, I was so looking forward to pelting the first years with discusting stuff lol.

I'm from the North Island as well, and afaik all of 5 or so people are going to Otago (from my school), and none from my peer group... I think the rest are doing surveying.

I know a few others going to Otago from other schools, but a lot didn't get into halls so are now going to Auckland.

I've heard that Selwyn is a popular first choice also, and since it has a large number of returning students, its "exclusivity" is increased further.

Selwyn was the hardest to get into for 2009 - it rejected the highest proportion of students. Arana had the most applicants though, meaning it rejected the greatest number of students. Arana once again had the most applicants for 2010, but it is a very big hall.

Interesting what you say about people not getting into the halls. Apparently Otago doesn't really want the number of enrolled students to increase past what it is currently and is quite keen on using the halls to limit the numbers (i.e. the halls will not expand to meet the increased demans). There was something like 1000 students on the waiting list for halls straight after initial offers for 2010 were made...
