Lol I don't think you are arrogant!

Most of the Knoxies I know are generally real nice. A bit upper class but real awesome people. Although I only hang with awesome people. :p

Knox sounds a lot like Smags. Formal and more than a few returners.

What do you think of Selwynites?

I hear it's a great place. I have some real cool friends there during first year from my class. Fantastic people. (yy)

Completely unrelated matter, but BIOC192 marks were quite heavily scaled! (Worth noting for future health scis).

I just got my exam paper returned to me, and there was some seriously harsh marking (like, question 6, which I was very confident of getting at least 9/10 in got 6.5/10!).

Calculating my final raw mark, it came out as 94%, yet it got pushed up to 98% by scaling!

I must say though, this is the approach I would use if I was a lecturer - mark the exam harshly then scale up. I do approve...

Oh, and the exam felt no harder than the previous years exams, so I think they must have been doing this scaling for a while.

How do we get our papers returned greenglacier?

Two options:

1 - wait until you get back to Dunedin. You can view papers (at the relevant department) and arrange to get them returned (go to the information desk in the link) until the 19th of February (after which they get destroyed).

2 - ring up Otago (0800 80 80 98) and ask for the "return of examination scripts" form. They will send it to you. You then have to fill it out, indicating the papers you want returned, and send it back, along with a self-addressed, stamped A4 envelope for each paper.

I warn you though - HUBS and HEAL will not return papers. HUBS (191 and 192) have a long-standing policy of not allowing the return of papers to students (though you can view them). HEAL192 was a different matter - they did not have such a policy, so I requested the return of my exam paper. I then got a phone call from the university a few days later - "we're very sorry, but upon receiving your request, HEAL192 has suddenly announced that they will not be giving you your paper back. This is somewhat unorthodox and we apologise for the inconvenience caused by the department of preventive and social medicine. You will be pleased to know we have asked the department to improve their communication on the matter, and future students will not be given the impression that they can get their HEAL192 paper back".

That sucks about good ol' Epi.

I got mine back the year before. Not really that useful because they changed the course last year. I'm gonna take this to mean they won't be changing the curriculum for Epi. Kinda good really. I guess it worked for them.

Yeah I reckon I'll be going in to try and view my epi script at least as I would quite like to see the marking of it. Maybe they are intending to repeat the pre-released question this year - in which case it'd be a bad idea for exemplars to circulate in the form of marked exam scripts. That's my theory at least...

Sounds like a plan.

I'm still really pissed off at myself for not getting my HEAL and BIOC back. I would've loved to see where I lost marks in both papers, and to see if there was any scaling like greenglacier has found. I know from my CELS exam that my mark was put up by 5% which is quite a bit.

On that note I may as well point out that there was absolutely no scaling of my CELS mark this year. In fact, BIOC is so far the only paper where I've discovered a scaled mark (though I have yet to check HUBS192 or HEAL, and it now seems I may never be able to see HEAL, grr...).

Oh wow thats interesting they scaled BIOC, I wondered why I did so well haha. Can't be bothered getting my papers back, I'm lazy.
Trust the epi dept. to change their policy lol, they really were bad this year.:lols:

I don't think they were as bad as our year. Although, that could be a biased opinion because they were a bit crap compared to other departments.

Lol I think the fact they screwed up one exam rooms results is a testament to the way they run the course (not good) lol.
