Sat my UCAT today and was just wanting to seek feedback and advice moving forward? I am a little disappointed as I really committed this year to do everything possible to improve my chances for getting more interview. I had put in almost 450 hours of practice (I have been logging how long and what I had been doing) since the start of March and had exhausted almost every resource available to me. From what I was getting I thought I would have done a lot better in DM and AR.

I am a gap year taker with an ATAR of 99.4 last year, non-rural QLD applicant. I got an interview at JCU last year but did not get accepted.
If I get an interview this year for JCU and don't pass I am guessing I will have to start a degree and start applying as a non-standard applicant.

Are there any other potential options that I may have this year based on my score and ATAR?

Thanks for all the help and support over the past 8 months as well.

Edit - also any recommendations as to what to do in the meantime until interviews or starting university to maximise chances?
Currently I have been working at a specialist clinic and now UCAT is done was gonna get back involved in volunteer work, and I have also been asked to come with my clinic to Cambodia in November to help out there.

just apply for the places you want to go. Hard to say whether an interview is likely with that UCAT so make sure to also focus on non-ucat unis, which is pretty much just jcu at this point. Also look at UTAS, i think their ucat requirement is lower.

you might still get interviews from most ucat unis (not guaranteed tho) so try to apply everywhere. Have you looked at UTAS - they have a much lower ucat cutoff. other than that JCU is a good option, just put a lot of time into your application and interview practice. As for in the mean time, the volunteering and work experience is really good for getting better insight into working in health/medicine.

I'm a current uni student GPA of about 6.2 (hoping to increase it to 6.3 or 6.4 by the end of the year). I'm GWS and WAM of 85 at UNSW. I'll apply for SCATS for UNSW too.

UTAS is unavailable to individuals who have previously commenced tertiary study.

It’s available as you’re a graduate, but via the GAMSAT route as of 2023 I believe.

She is uni student and sit at WAM of 85 in UNSW. She is willing to anywhere she can get. Except UNSW any other uni will suit for applying? Thanks

Congratulations on your daughter’s marks. I suggest she apply to Western Sydney Uni and University of Newcastle medicine. She has quite a high chance at Newcastle given her overall score is very high. She has a moderate chance at WSU because her VR is decently high, since WSU weighs VR greater than the other sections. Those are the top two unis I would definitely apply for.

Also, consider applying to JCU (no UCAT needed and you just need to write a personal application!) If you can afford it, try applying to Bond Uni too.

Ok, if your daughter is currently in WA, that makes it A LOT harder to get into WSU, since WSU needs a higher UCAT score for non-GWS (Greater Western Sydney) students. Typically, 98-99th percentile scores get an offer, and that's only with a very high VR (750+).

UNSW, Newcastle, JCU, Bond don't have any preferences depending on location.

Since all three of you have very similar results, I decided to bulk reply.

We can't really tell for now because percentiles haven't been released, but based on previous years results I would suggest for all of you to apply to WSU (JPM) and Newcastle (JMP). gudgie has a better chance for WSU because they have a pretty good VR score and is GWS. Last year's minimum score for JMP was 3040, but obviously this can change this year. However, all of you are at or above that threshold, so fingers crossed!

I'm not too certain about UNSW, but for gudgie Endlus who are applying for SCATS, if successful, it will definitely help your chances in terms of academic rank. Reminder that you need a 96+ ATAR to qualify (unless you're going to complete your degree by the end of the year). Regardless, I would still apply. For Sookie, your ATAR wouldn't be enough for UNSW, but if your GPA is higher than it can be used instead.

Finally, all of you should apply to JCU, since it is a uni that doesn't consider UCAT and basically everyone can apply. Consider Bond Uni if you can afford that.

For anyone who is going to ask advice:

As LMG! has stated before, medstudentsonline can only really give B-tier advice atm and it's quite uncertain because med school applications and thresholds change quite often and it's very unpredictable. I'm sorry if we can't provide the certainty that you desire, but that's just the volatile nature of med entrance.

It would be better once UCAT percentiles are released since we can make more accurate predictions. As of now, your raw scores and our predictions don't mean much if the percentiles start shifting to the left or right, so please just be patient until then and we can provide some more certainty.
