I am rural Victoria MM3, got ucat 2150. I hope I can get atar 99 plus. I am worrying about my interview skills, Do I need to give a really good interview for Monash with ucat 2150 and atar 99 plus?
My son was rural Victoria MM5 with an ATAR of 98.15 plus SEAS and a 91st % UCAT. He got an offer from Adelaide Uni but not Monash. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the reply. How was his interview? Has he done many extra curriculars? because I haven't done many extra things.

Hi all, just did my UCAT
VR: 680
DM: 630
QR: 580
Total: 1890 + 496
Not great, I know.

I was averaging 700 in my mocks for SJT so no idea how that happened when I already work in healthcare lol. Rural applicant for dentistry, preferably UQ. Will that horrid SJT score affect my chances? I actually don’t know how that happened honestly. Genuine bewilderment lol.
All I know is rural scores for UCAT dentistry is about 60-70th %ile ~ but I guess it’s just the SJT I’m super worried about :/

___________
A1 replies: Would you want to go for medicine instead?
This RA2 student got CSU med place offer last year with 2400 31st %ile (VR: 630 DM: 560 QR: 600 AR: 610), good chance for you there
> Aus Med and Dent Undergraduate Offers 2025 Entry - Collated Data
Always been iffy with med bahaha. I was a nurse and now I work in the dental field already so I'd prefer dentistry, although medicine isnt completely ruled out for me I guess (I could take graduate dental afterwards so I can specialise into OMFS). Should I still apply to UQ and the other undergraduate dental schools in Aus? Do they auto reject for a super bad SJT score or is that just a thing in the UK? 🤕

___________
A1 replies: I know of three schools where SJT is relevant : WSU with an SJT threshold (around 25ish SJT %ile like in the UK), Flinders Med and UQ Dent use UCAT Total+SJT for ranking applicants.
I suggested Med due to Med having a generous "discount" in entry marks for rural applicants, which may make it possible for you. I don't know if the Dent schools have the same.

Asking for a QLD metro friend, any chances for 99.90-95 predicted and 2000 + 608 SJT?

___________
A1 replies: Adding to Arcadia's reply - there's also non-UCAT JCU and Griffith Nathan/GC, USC.

Doesn't look possible for UQ non-rural cutoff was 91%ile last year. Maybe try looking at CQU and USQ as options.

and also non-ucat Usyd and Unimelb Guaranteed Pathway given that predicted. All the best 👍

He felt he did better with the Monash MMI than the Adelaide one. No he did not do any extracurriculars. Best of luck.

Hi all,
How are chances looking?

880 VR
650 DM
900 QR
Total score: 2430
622 SJT

Was wondering if my score would be viable for UNSW and WSU? What percentile would my score fall under?

For some background, currently in my final year of uni doing an embedded Honours degree and I am a GWS local applicant. How would they calculate GPA in that situation, especially for UNSW? Many thanks.

___________
A1 replies: 2430 hopefully will be 96-97%ile. With 880VR you will definitely get a GWS interview.
GPA for embedded Honours will likely be calculated on the 4 years combined. If 6.5+ you should get UNSW interview.

Hey A1
I got
580 VR
600 DM
650 QR
Total 1830

SJT 664

I am international student and am not living in australia as well. This score in my opinion is not enough for adelaide uni but still i would give it a try. I had less than 40 days to study for this as my exams for A level ended in july. In total i gave 3 A levels including bio, physics and chem. For bio i got A and for chem and phys i am still waiting for results which will come out next week. I am preparing for IELTS now which i will give next month. Pls guide me on this.

___________
A1 replies: I'm sorry MSO doesn't have much info or data on international applicants, I'm probably more clueless than you are 😥

Hey everyone, I got
680 Vr
720DM
880 QR
638 SJT
Total 2280.

Atar- ~99.65 (but with eas probs 99.95)
Also Rural and GWS.

Was wondering if I can apply and reasonably have a chance for most unis in NSW like UNSW, WSU, JMP and also interstate.

___________
A1 replies: Your UCAT/VR doesn't look enough for GWS but should be enough for CSU rural.
Also enough for UNSW, JMP and interstate schools too. Apply everywhere to max your chances, except WA since iirc they allow rural entry only to WA rural.

Hey! I sat ucat recently and scored:
VR: 700
DM: 760
QR: 900
SJT: 589
TOTAL: 2360 + 589

Atar 96.05 (2024)
GPA (~6)

IS there any chance for me anywhere in NSW?
Looking at notre dame which says 92 atar threshold. Is my ucat enough?

___________
A1 replies: Unfortunately your UCAT doesn't look enough for JMP. Also not enough for WSU unless you are GWS.
UNSW is likely out too due to GPA, you need 6.5+ to make the cutoff. But still worth submitting a UAC application for them just in case.
See this post for Notre Dame > Post-UCAT Discussion 2025

Hi Im a mature age non standard entry student, with a GPA of 6.9, I got a very low UCAT score of 1710 (VR - 580, DM - 540, WR 610, SJ 536) - Rural applicant with 3 yrs MM5 + 3 years MM2 continuously (6yrs rural) , currently live in MM2 aswel. Is there any point of applying for CSU - orange , WSU, UNSW, JMP with this low ucat score? Thanks heaps for any insight.

___________
A1 replies: Being rural with GPA 6.9 your best chance is probably non-UCAT JCU.
Your UCAT is on the low side but still worth submitting a UAC application for UNSW, CSU, JMP.

Thank you A1. Would it be necessary to do SAT to also bypass the ATAR requirement? My concern is in case my GPA might not neet the 6.5+ cutoff even if I achieve First Class Honours.

___________
A1 replies: I'm not sure if SAT will help. One uni (namely USyd) has indicated SAT is not accepted in place of ATAR. UNSW does accept SAT but only says so on the webpage for int'l applicants. Best you call ask UNSW Med directly if SAT is accepted for domestic applicants.
Btw your UCAT is likely good for JMP interview too, if you can move to UoN/UNE.

Hello,

My UCAT was 790 VR, 740 DM, 820 QR = 2360

I'm a non-standard SA applicant with a 7 GPA and I was wondering if it is worth applying for anywhere other than Adelaide? (for med and dent).

___________
A1 replies: Your UCAT doesn't look enough for WSU interstate. Should be enough for UNSW interview though.
At best it's borderline for JMP, but no harm to include JMP (and WSU) in the UAC application for UNSW.
JCU is worth a try.
Depending on your SJT score UQ Dent may be possible. I'm not sure about Griffith Dent.

Forgot to mention, my WAM overall for the 3 years of undergrad is a 77 for 144 uoc. Not sure what converts into GPA terms. Hoping First Class Honours can push it up.

___________
A1 replies: Give these grade points to your *individual* subject courses : 7 for 85+, 6 for 75-84, 5 for 65-74, 4 for 50-64, then
If your Hons year is an 8-course year - Sum all the grade points divide by 32 for the average i.e. GPA.
If Hons year is a single entity - Sum the first 3 years' grade points, add 7x8 for the 1st-class Hons, divide by 32.

Just finished my ucat.
VR: 730

im applying as an nsw gws hsc student (atar estimated: 98 - 99). im applying to literally every medical and dental school in australia. what interviews would i get with tthese scores? (non rural, no eas)

___________
A1 replies: Your WSU-weighted 756 is borderline for GWS interview.
UQ Dent may be possible if you get 600+ SJT and ATAR 99+ (or 97+ with Maths C equiv). Not sure about other Dent schools.
Unfortunately I don't see a Med chance elsewhere.

Hi just had some questions about UCAT. my scores are listed below, and I am considered GWS.

VR: 850
DM: 710
QR: 900
Total: 2460 + 653 SJT

Was just wondering if anyone knew what percentile this might land in? I'm assuming around 97-99.

I've looked through A1's post about predicted thresholds and it seems like I'm in the good running for interviews from WSU (I'm assuming 653 SJT meets the threshold? some clarification would be appreciated if possible) and JMP.

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any information/stats about lateral entry for UNSW? I didn't achieve an ATAR of 96 so I'm ruled out for normal non-standard entry, but I currently have a WAM of 91 and I am in my second year of medical science at UNSW so I can apply as a lateral entry applicant. I understand that scores are all relative between cohorts as they only offer the top 30 for interviews and further 10 for CSP places but having some previous benchmarks would help in understanding trends/what to expect.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated :))

___________
A1 replies: 2460 should be 97-98%ile. You will get a JMP interview.
We've seen a WSU successful with 520ish SJT, your 653SJT and 850VR are plenty for WSU.
MSO doesn't have much data on UNSW internal transfer to help though.

You can still apply as a non-standard applicant for UNSW Medicine. Just sit the SAT as soon as possible and the uni will look at that result over your ATAR as it overrides it due to being more recent and if you score well on it.

I got to the interview stage for lateral entry back in 2023 with a 77 WAM + 2870 UCAT but did not get an offer. So you have a good shot at it. I recommend you consider non-standard over lateral entry, as it is more risky due to the less number of spots being offered. You may have a better chance getting into unsw med through non-standard.

Forgot to mention, that SAT has been used to help bypass the ATAR cutoff in the past but there's no guarantee it will still be around in the next medicine application cycles. So this year may be your last chance to do so.

Hi guys, I’m a non rural year 12 student from Victoria, Aus. I got a really bad UCAT score and I don’t know what to do. I want to do medicine (direct entry if possible), and my UCAT score is 1790 (VR: 660, DM: 600, QR: 530 and SJ: 595). Can someone please let me know what my options are? I want to consider all of them, even if it means applying in a different state. Please let me know!

___________
A1 replies: Unfortunately your UCAT doesn't look enough for the UCAT schools.
The non-UCAT schools depend on your ATAR - JCU 99+ (combined with school-location history), 99.90 for USC, Griffith, UMelb Chancellors.

Hi A1, do you know if JCU looks at the most recent university GPA, or do they consider the GPA from all degrees you have attempted? My recent studies, which I started last year in a health-related field, have a competitive GPA because I’m now motivated and more interested than I was when I was younger. However, my previous studies in engineering, with my last attempt in 2015, were very poor, with many fails. At the time, I was going through a very difficult personal period and ended up with a 1.0/7 GPA before leaving university to focus on getting my life back on track. Do you think my past poor performance will affect my chances of being considered for a JCU interview?

___________
A1 replies: JCU is tricky on this^.
On paper JCU Admissions Procedure says they use your latest 1+year GPA.
Another JCU webpage says they also look at previous studies/achievements, presumably for mitigating factors in case the latest GPA is less than ideal.
I hope your previous studies being 10 years ago JCU won't take into consideration.
