I did the ucat a week ago:

DM: 650

SJ: 546

I am applying as a SA local student with rural background (mm2/RA3). Expected ATAR is 99.4-6. What are my chances at interviews for SA unis and interstate.

___________
A1 replies: It's likely you will be somewhere around 60th to 70th %ile. That should be enough for several interviews. Apply to as many as you can to maximise your chances.

Question for A1 - Do rural applicant get allocated to a separate pool with an allocated number of offers? As a non rural metro applicant, we know the entry requirements are quite steep and if rural and non-rurals are added to the same pool, it's gets quite difficult for non-rurals to compete.

Apart from JCU all other schools (afaik) place rural applicants in a separate pool.
JCU up to two years ago rural were in the same pool but with a Rurality multiplier applied to their scores. The rurality is proportional to their RA rating and for how long they are rural, can be 1 year or 3 or 7 years etc. JCU is still doing this plus from last year they have introduced a rural category for the 5+years, presumably in a separate pool.

Not all schools are exactly like UNSW below but it's a good indication
Rural : 374 applicants => 165 interviews => ~50 places
Non-rural : 3070 applicants => 336 interviews => 140 places.

Can someone help with the UAC order of universities?
UCAT Score: 2460 (790+790+880) and 639 SJT
EAS: Yes
Rural: No
Projected ATAR: 96
Medical Programs interested in: UNSW, WSU, UON JMP
What should be the order of the universities in UAC? New to this and my preference is UNSW but don't want to risk WSU or JMP due to listing UNSW as my first preference. Requesting guidance from the thinktank here please.

___________
A1 replies: Placing UNSW 1st pref causes Zero risk to WSU/JMP. If you get UNSW you've got your wish. If you don't then WSU/JMP automatically become your highest prefs, the same effect as you had put WSU/JMP higher.

Thanks a ton A1. I will list UNSW, WSU and JMP in that order.
I got an impression from a few posts in the group that WSU and/or UON may not provide a first round interview offer if we have UNSW ranked higher than WSU and UON.

Will the unis have visibility of the order of the preference and do they take into accoount this UAC preferential order when awarding first round (December round) interview offers?

Last question: Do any of these programs (UNSW, WSU and UON) provide interview offers solely on the basis of UCAT scores (without waiting for the ATARs to be released) in November/DEcember at all or is that a myth as well?

Sorry for all the dum questions and appreciate your help in advance.

1. This is true for 'place offers' not interview offers. If you are eligible, you will receive an interview regardless of preference order.

2. The university does not know which order you have put your preferences, just that you have it in your preferences. Thus, it doesn't impact whether or not you receive an interview or place.

3. WSU and UON provide interviews based on only UCAT scores. UNSW takes into account ATARs when determining who to invite for an interview.

Thanks, so technically, if both WSU and UON are listed as no. 2 and no. 3 in the initial UAC preference list, then one should get interview offers for both in November (if eligible ofcourse)? And UNSW will only send out interview offers to the eligible candidates in December once the ATARs are available?

Hi all, looking for some application advice.
I am a rural applicant (QLD), UCAT 2170, on track for ATAR req's. I am happy to apply anywhere interstate including NSW, TAS, VIC, SA.
Any guidance on where I could apply would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance :)

Hello All,

I did my UCAT at the end of July
Total score: 2280
VR: 850
DM: 720
QR: 710
SJT: 543

I am applying as a non standard applicant from GWS, NSW.
What unis in NSW could this score could be enough for?
Thanks in advance!

___________
A1 replies: You should get WSU-GWS interview.
UNSW is possible if GPA 6.5+. Unlikely enough for JMP though.

You can still apply as a non-standard applicant for UNSW Medicine. Just sit the SAT as soon as possible and the uni will look at that result over your ATAR as it overrides it due to being more recent and if you score well on it.

I got to the interview stage for lateral entry back in 2023 with a 77 WAM + 2870 UCAT but did not get an offer. So you have a good shot at it. I recommend you consider non-standard over lateral entry, as it is more risky due to the less number of spots being offered. You may have a better chance getting into unsw med through non-standard.

_________
A1 asks: Can one apply for both UNSW non-standard and lateral entry?
Thanks for the reply

If I recall correctly, I've heard that for the standard pool of entry for UNSW, roughly one place offer is made for every three interviewees (hence a 1:3 ratio. If this is true, then wouldn't my odds of an offer via Lateral entry be roughly the same, given that there are ~30 interviewees and only 10 spots offered? May there even be a chance that my odds via Lateral entry are higher, considering my WAM and UCAT? I've recently asked around to some lateral entry students who, at the time of their offer for medicine being made, had marks lower than mine, some even significantly lower.

I feel as though lateral entry seems like a no-brainer, especially considering the fact that I don't really want to have to prepare and sit for ANOTHER exam like the SAT. However, feel free to correct me if anything I've said is wrong.

Though the ratios are the same 1:3 it much depends on where you sit relative to the Lateral cohort and to the General applicants.

In your (HFITMC16) own case, with sub-96 ATAR you're ineligible for non-standard (unless SAT is accepted) so Lateral is a no-brainer.

For others in general, it's likely their particular ATAR/GPA+UCAT would be better off against the Lateral cohort than against the General pool full of new Year12 guns. But otoh their interview score will be against the cohort with one more life-experience year than the Year12s. So it's not straightforward which gives higher chances.

Thank you, any guidance on my UAC preferencing?

___________
A1 replies: Simplest to place them in the order of your actual preference.
This only matters if/when you qualify for multiple schools within the same TAC/UAC. By then you'd be over the moon to receive the higher-pref offer.

Thanks for the reply

Do be aware I was also told 10 offer spots offered they are not obligated to give all of that every year. Prior years I were told it was only 7-8 spots, even 5. It was alleged in one year nobody got in at all.

Interview spots could also be as low as 20 only from when I was last told in prior cohorts. Good luck and focus on doing your best.

This is a video guide/link with the most info I heard in recent years about Lateral Entry besides the infosheet.

Hello! I did my UCAT recently:
VR: 690
DM: 670
QR: 880
SJ: 563
Score: 2240
I'm a first year university student at University of Auckland in NZ. I was hoping to apply to all the unis for med that allow non-standard applicants like unsw, jmp, jcu, and wsu, but also UQ dent. Also, I predict I can get a GPA of 6.75 or 6.5+ (Aus gpa) I was just wondering what my chances would be?
Thanks in advance :)

last yr the avg was 1900, so if 50th percentile has alr risen by 20, how much would 90+th percentile have risen...

It may not have risen by any more than the median has, since AR was the one people apparently padded their scores with to a greater extent each year.

Hello, do you guys think I can get interviews/offers for JMP, WSU non GWS, Notre Dame, CSU Dent, Adelaide Interstate Med and Dent, and UQ Dent with these scores? I am a non rural NSW student and think I might be borderline for a lot of them. Also, I was wondering if JMP interviews will be in person or on zoom this year as I've been hearing a lot of conflicting information.

VR: 730
DM: 790
QR: 900
Total: 2420
SJT: 614

Does anyone know which unis do multiple rounds of offers cause I've heard JMP and WSU only do one round of offers. Would It be a bad idea to fill all my preferences for UAC with med and dent courses for first round and only change to an alternative (law, actuarial studies, economics) in the second round or are the places limited for those courses at unis such as USYD/UNSW and I might miss out?

Thanks for your help!
