Your sister's score has served two great purposes

(1) It singlehandedly pulls down MSO average by 15pts, therefore gives all MSO members who have sat UCAT hopes for a 1%ile boost ;)

(2) Let's say the sections have on average 40 questions. People generally believe a section's marks go approximately
0 correct = 300, 10 correct = 450, 20 correct = 600, 30 correct = 750, 40 correct = 900 (i.e. 300-900 over 0-40 range)

I tend to believe a random picker would get ~10 questions correct thus the minimum marks, so the marks go approximately
10 or less correct = 300, 20 correct = 500, 30 correct = 700, 40 correct = 900 (300-900 over 10-40 range), as shown by the sister's score.

ucatboy what do you think?
Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed.

Sorry to be daft, but what do you mean by 1%ile boost ?

what do you mean by 1%ile boost ?
I was joking, but there's some statistic "truth" to it.
2020 MSO average was 120 higher than 2019 MSO average, turned out 2020 real percentile scores were ~100pts higher than 2019 scores. So there was an unscientific correlation, which means a lower MSO average this year should result in lower percentile scores and everyone gets a higher %ile for their score :)

correlation = causation 😤😤

Hey everyone me and my sister just did the UCAT today in Melbourne. I will say I'm a little bit disappointed in my score since I was averaging around 2600 on my mocks but I think it's above the JMP (main goal) cut off for Rural applicants tho it may be too low for Monash rural, oh well. I've also reported my sisters score who mainly did it with me just as a moral support because this was a pretty big deal for me haha so she literally guessed everything (except SJT cause she said it looked kinda fun) (dw she's not going for med or dent haha).

My Score this YearMy Sister's Score this year
VR500330
DM660340

That's so wholesome of your sister 🥰🥰 Do you know whether she answered every single question or left some blank?

I see! I thought that was what you were meaning but just wanted to clarify. I have a 3,000 and aiming for JMP so I'm praying, crossing fingers - toes - arms (lol) that the percentiles hold relatively steady!

Hey there, been lurking for a while now, I sat my ucat a few days ago and here's how it went:

Test date: 18/8/2021
Test centre: pearson centre Sydney
VR: 580
DM: 660
QR: 800
AR: 690 :(
TOTAL: 2730

Overall very bummed, nerves and pressure ended up getting the best of m on the day. i feel like they play a more important role than even preparation. All my prep went to waste because of the anxiety I get sitting an important exam.

VR: honestly expected less hehehe. VR was an absolute nightmare during prep, I don't think I ever hit 600 in my mocks and fortunately for me the ucat VR was even harder than my mocks. Nearly all author and inference qtns. Pretty sure I ended up guessing almost every qtn there. All texts were mainly history or science based.

DM: this was the section that I needed to score good in to have a chance. But i was extremely nervous after a bad VR and the pen wasn't working properly which made me even more nervous. They through some curveballs in the venn diagram and probability which messed me up and syllogisms were quite complex lots of double negatives

QR: surprisingly i was expecting better, i was averaging 850+ in all mocks. But like i said the pressure got to me. I had one hard set at the beginning which threw me off

AR: the most disappointed, probably prepped the most for this. AR id say is a ball game to an extent. All depends if u recognise the pattern on the day

Make sure you in your pre exam time you test out the pen. sometimes u need to write at a weird angle. Also why not just pen and paper, like wot why did it have to be laminated booklet and texter

Should i bother applying?

whilst unfortunately your UCAT score may not be high enough for unis like WSU and JMP, there are unis that disregard UCAT and instead use ATAR in conjunction with interviews and other selection processes such as USYD in NSW or JCU in QLD. So whilst applying to some unis who take UCAT may not lead to anything there are still options. Or get a good atar and take a gap year.

Just to add onto that: USyd, UniMelb, JCU, and Bond all don't take part in the UCAT admissions process.

Should i bother applying?
Sorry to hear you didn't get the mark you were hoping for. Nevertheless, there's no harm in applying. As asan_chan said, there are other options too. Good luck!

I just did UCAT recently I haven't read anyone elses score reports on here just because I didn't want to get demoralised... I'm kind of disappointed with my mark and doubting if I even have a chance at medicine anymore. My friend who is in medicine now was saying I needed a minimum of 3400 just to get interview offers so I've blown my chance at that. I am part of GWS so maybe that will help me for WSU, but my hopes aren't that bright getting a score like 3280 :(

VR: Always been my worst section because I'm just a slow reader, but I was hoping for 800+
DM: Utterly disappointed, I was expecting 850+ but I just wasn't able to pull through. Spent too long on yes/no questions
QR: This was one of my decent sections, 890 is ok... I wanted 900 since I'm generally good at maths, and my friend told me 900 is meant to be around average for the UCAT cohort, but it's ok enough for me, it's not like my 3280 is competitive anyway.
AR: I am happy with 880, I was only expecting an 800 since AR was hard for someone like me, so 880 is a pleasant surprise.

Overall, as you can see, I'm in a tough position now. My friend said I should go and look at alternative pathways into medicine like GAMSAT or dentistry. I mean I could always just do physio or psychology or nursing or something like that... I've honestly just been thinking about this all day and I am so down - all I ever wanted was to do was just have a chance, a shred of hope at medicine but I'm not even looking at an interview offer. I feel this is a punishment because I didn't prepare enough, I only did a few mocks... sigh.... sorry for putting my poor mood on here - I am just dishing out my idle thoughts.

Thank you for all your support

At this point idk if you're being serious or just fishing for compliments. No offence. I mean 900 QR average for UCAT cohort and minimum 3400 for interview?!?!?! You're smart enough to achieve a great score which was 99th percentile last year, so I assume you would've done your own research and not blindly agree to everything this friend said.

Ok I see the possibilities for this:

a) You're trolling/intentionally making clueless people worried about what score they really need for med
b) You're one of those people that whine about 5 marks off 100 when the majority of your class gets 70-80
c) You're genuinely unaware about what the UCAT score means; thinking that it's a bad mark (which I don't think is the case, since you've been gunning for med since last year).

Interesting to note to everyone that the user soobad was created the same day another user was banned last year for trolling in the exact same way.

We’ll leave the post up because everyone’s called it out for being incorrect but yeah, one of the limitations of online forums is they rely on peoples honesty

(PS Wesley how you been man, did you go to Parra this time? or does this test centre still leak their questions to WeChat groups)
