What about that section 2 question with the (sick on arrival) husband and wife moving to papa new guinea for his doctorate. Did the husband see her comment that ‘just like grant funds run out my funds might run out - might take our daughter and go back blah blah’ (something along those lines). Did he see this as an opportunity or a challenge? I put a challenge as he asked her “is that a threat?” but some people are saying opportunity?

And also that same stimulus, did he find his wife’s offer to help patronising? That’s what I picked but I forgot the other answer options, I just feel like none of them felt right and patronising felt the least not right.

He saw it as an opportunity because after she threatened him, he started considering funding from other places + also the thought of her and the kid leaving PNG.

Opportunity. He seemed almost happy that she was getting rid of herself.

A second question compared two different areas, one with heavy or light snowfall. The question asked in relation to the surrounding snow how old would the air bubbles be?
A) same age, no difference
b) same difference from the surrounding snow in their respective areas
C) closer to snow age in high snowfall, whilst further from snow age in low snowfall
d) same as C but reversed.

The first question has been discussed enough. To me the second question is a little ambiguous in the word surrounding. The immediately surrounding snow would be same age as the bubbles, but the generally surrounding snow would be older/younger - and how much older/younger depending on the rate of snowfall.

Since the question seems to have an angle on heavy vs light snowfall and lacking the word *immediately* surrounding, I would be inclined to pick answer C) closer to snow age in high snowfall, whilst further from snow age in low snowfall.

yea that's been the general consensus so far A1, the exact wording of the stem I don't remember but it was close to that

patronising?
I narrowed it down to patronizing or the option saying that he felt like she was trying to control him. I ended up choosing the latter because he paused for a second and came to the realization hence I assumed that maybe the deeper answer could be correct but tbh I wouldn't be surprised if it was patronizing.

Opportunity. He seemed almost happy that she was getting rid of herself.

Was there any evidence that he felt happy about it? I thought he was actually pretty offended by it and wouldn’t want to be away from his daughter because he said “is that a threat?”, and then when he was contemplating the other funding options it seemed like he thought those options were gonna take long to get and might not be sufficient and he doesn’t want to bother his parents, then finally ended with “she won’t leave anyway” (something like that) kind of in a relieved tone, like oh thankfully I don’t even have to consider those options.

I just feel like opportunity has too much of a positive vibe to it, unless the guy really was annoyed by his wife (you could infer that) AND his kid (couldn’t be inferred), and would rather go through the hassle of the other options rather than continue living with them - seems kind of far fetched? But perhaps that’s just my own feelings and not how he would feel.

I agree. Opportunity sounds like he is optimistic about it and happy which I don’t think fits the text. If the wife did leave, the bloke can’t even get up to do his fieldwork how is he going to do the work AND find funding for himself? I think how he said “she won’t leave anyway” is like afterhim considering all the other ways he can get funding (which he doesn’t want to do) and it’s a relieving thought.

Also when she sat down and smiled, did y’all put that down as restrained anger?

The question about the 2 new fathers, did u put the option where one of them thinks they’re on a higher plane of understanding?

yea, the second father definitely saw his child as something wonderful and a new world that his co-workers wouldn't be able to understand fully
