The general process including dates is the same, but click No to "Completing Y12 in 2018?"
(I remember 3 years ago it was around $45, now $70. That's 15% inflation per year!)

Great, thanks heaps.

So that would mean that i don’t have to worry about applying until after UMAT results are out, right?

It will depend on exactly when results are released this year (last year they were considerably earlier than they’ve ever been). That said, even in past years when UMAT results were later in the month, they still came out before the cut off date for applications, and I definitely can’t see this year being any different.

The ONLY caution I have is for rural applicants, or those seeking special considerations. I know that some rural applications require stat decs and references from community leaders, which can take time to pull together and can’t necessarily be left ‘til the last minute.

Hi everyone, just a quick reminder that this thread is for UMAT and related topics.

If you have more general questions, or questions about interviews or applications, feel free to have a look around the forum, the answers are probably already posted. If you can’t find them, post your question in the related thread. Only create a new thread if you’re sure there isn’t one already established.

Thank you :)

I'm posting this here since it has a little of UMAT in it :) (will move to the Interview Invites thread when it opens)

For anyone interested, UNSW Med 2018 non-rural intake
- Median ATAR: 99.6 - Lowest: 98.2
- Median UMAT: 192 (~96th %ile)
- Lowest UMAT: ~84th %ile (not given in the video but derived from the interview invite cutoff for interstate students last year)

I'm curious as to what sort of mark /48 for S1 one would need to get a score of 50?
I've been told 30/44 for S2 correlates to a score of approx 60...but that's S2.
Also, what about S3?

just go by 2 marks per question so 25 right is about a 50. It’s probably a bit conservative for s3 but it’s better to underestimate and be pleasantly surprised for results than overestimate and be disappointed

The truth is no one really knows. We have no clue how ACER converts scores into clean numbers out of 100. Nor can anyone tell you that they got x/44 and claim that x is enough for y percentile. ACER has, impressively, managed to keep a lot of secrets :)

It's no secret ACER uses IRT Item Response Theory, so no-one can tell because no-one knows how many other students got the questions correct.
Have they out right stated this?
I was under the impression they were very tight lipped about all this.

Imagine being in a party and someone asking what you do for a living.
"Im a psychometrician."
Yeh, you keep walking. You clearly feel like staying in your own comfort zone. :p
