You definitely can apply for medicine with an SAT score. The exception would be Melbourne provisional med as they also require AP scores. Btw the SAT scores translate very very well to ATAR.

I haven't checked for all unis, only these three. USyd/ANU/UWA all require a SAT score of 1480-1500 (out of 1600) to be equivalent to ATAR 99.0. That's like 93 marks/subject versus HSC's 89 for 99.0 so it doesn't seem to convert that well.

> If you have completed the US College Board SAT and ACT, you are eligble to apply for entry to UWA.

I remember someone mentioning somewhere that people from NSW and QLD should place JMP above UNSW even if they prefer UNSW because it will not exclude them from JMP 1st round offers or something? Can someone please explain this to me; and at what point I would put UNSW above JMP again for an offer possibility?

Only for QLD students since they do JMP's Nov-Dec round of interviews (thus could get a main round offer) whereas they do UNSW's interstate interviews later in January.

You can move UNSW to 1st pref after UAC main offer round.

EtA: Oh and this applies to WSU (for all interstates not just QLD) too i.e. put UNSW below both JMP & WSU, then re-arrange after main offer round.

Adding to A1's reply - basically the idea is that if you interviewed at both universities (+WSU potentially), and want to find out if you scored highly enough for a place offer at both, then you should preference JMP ahead of UNSW for the main UAC offer round, then swap your preferences so that UNSW is ahead of JMP for the February offer round. This way you can potentially end up with two offers. However, if you'd prefer to go to JMP over UNSW and aren't really bothered about finding out if you landed a place offer there or not, then this is kind of futile and will just delay the next person on the list receiving an offer. Naturally, up to you how you organise your preferences, but we do encourage people not to hold onto multiple offers for longer than necessary here just to ensure those on the waitlist can get their offers as soon as possible.

Thanks so much for the swift replies; really appreciate it, I have just switched them around, also another quick one do you know if it is possible to defer a CSP or a spot in a dental degree while concurrently competing another degree at a different uni, just for inability to move straight away or whatever?

Not sure about Dent, generally you can get Med deferred (I got 4 deferrals haha). However several schools do not allow you to defer then study at another uni during the "gap" year (not sure you meant compete or complete above). You need to check the conditions of deferral.

Yes but the scope of the SAT is at a maximum Year 9 level and generally taken the summer of Year 10 rather than at the end of high school like HSC The HSC is also much more complex and in-depth, and can be considered for college credit in US unis which SAT cannot. I believe if you take a look at the SAT math questions you would audibly laugh out loud.

Adding a little to clarify this^. My suggestion for QLD students to put UNSW below JMP (and all interstates to put UNSW below WSU) for the UAC main offer round is not about wanting to get two offers. The situation with putting UNSW above is, after your JMP/WSU interview you may qualify for a January main round offer but UAC won't release it to you, because they still don't know your 1st pref's outcome. At best you will only see the status code for JMP/WSU in your UAC login showing "Qualified pending results of a higher pref". I'm sure most would rather see the offer in print instead.

Wait so as an interstate resident from from QLD I should put JMP/WSU first before UNSW, then after the first round switch it around so that UNSW is at the top? Why should I put JMP first if interstate interview round is after the UAC first round?

I don't know if they have changed this year. Previous years NSW/ACT/QLD applicants do JMP interviews in the same round.

Would a student from NSW have to do this? Why/why not?

No NSW students don't have to do this for JMP/WSU, because all your NSW interviews are *before* the UAC main offer round (whereas interstates do UNSW interviews after). You must put them in your actual order of preference.

Ah ok. Any other states that I should do this in?

Check the 2019-20 Interview Dates post. Rule of thumb is don't put any schools that interview you in the interstate round, at higher prefs for the main offer round. Only raise them after the main offer round.

Can you please explain this further. First time doing these sort of things and not know much about preferences and accepting.

From a previous post I gathered as a Queen slander its best to put my preferences as: 1st JMP, 2nd WSU and 3rd UNSW.
I go to JMP & WSU interviews and imagine I get an offer from JMP. So I conditionally accept it. Then change my order. 1st UNSW , 2nd WSU and 3rd JMP. After the main offer round I go to UNSW interview.
If I dont get UNSW is my JMP offer still valid? How long can I keep the conditional acceptance.

As a QLDer you put JMP & WSU 1st or 2nd, for other interstates put WSU 1st. If they offer in the main offer round you are given ~2 weeks to enroll to formally accept it (no conditionally here). Once this is done you change its pref to bottom and re-arrange the other two schools to 1st & 2nd.

If you receive another in the interstate offer round you can enroll to accept then ponder which one to go with. When you have decided withdraw from the other one and let the school know you decline. (EtA: Actually it's better to ask them for a deferral then withdraw. This allows for the possibility you might change your mind later while still releasing the spot).

Technically you can hold both enrollments until the census date mid-late March then withdraw one without penalty. The school would be pretty pissed at you but can't do anything. This is why I think the WA TISC offers rule is better, in that if you receive a higher pref offer in the 2nd round they automatically take away your main round offer to give to another applicant. The other TACs don't do this.

Quick question, I received an offer for dentistry last year which I deferred, took a gap year and am reapplying for med. I’m still a school leaver right? Just wondering cause I have a jcu student number and just wanna make sure everything is ok

Yes, as long as you don't have a 'tertiary record' (which you won't if you only have a deferred enrolment) then you're a school leaver for everywhere except UQ.
