So my current situation is that I've been given an offer for Bond medicine (starting in September), which I've accepted for now. However, I've had the thought of writing the UCAT again and applying for WSU/CSU and JMP for 2023 entry. I figured that I have nothing to lose by applying again through the UCAT; if it works out, then it would make it much easier for me with regards to saving a lot of finances and comfortability, if not, then I would be happy to continue on with my Bond med degree (the cost isn't an issue for me). I guess another advantage I have on my side is that because medicine starts for me in September, and UCAT finishes by August, I wouldn't have anything else to focus on apart from that. iirc, this forum mentioned that JMP allows students who have started a medicine degree to apply for the following year, but I'm not sure if WSU/CSU allows that or not. Especially seeing that Bond is FFP, I have a feeling it would be very unlikely, practically impossible, to do so. I've ruled out UNSW and JCU as my academic results won't be competitive enough for these unis.

So my overall question is just whether I would be eligible to apply for JMP and WSU/CSU for 2023 as a 1st year med student from September. It would be really nice if any of the moderators, or even anyone else who has been in a similar situation, could provide their 2 cents on this.

I know that this has historically been possible for JMP, and we’ve known people who’ve successfully made the switch. But I have a feeling JPM no longer take applications from those who’ve started an Australian Med degree already, so you should definitely double check directly with JPM re. your eligibility as that may be off the cards. While you’re at it, I’d get confirmation in writing from JMP, too, just to be safe.

ETA: yep, JPM clearly state on their website that they don’t accept applicants via this pathway.

Just a quick question on selection ranks and eligibility. I'm currently studying Dentistry, but have a full degree completed before this. I'll get credits for 4 subjects this year, so out of 8 possible units this year I'll only be doing 4. If I wanted to give med one last try, would my selection rank be calculated using these 4 dentistry subjects (which would mean that it would be quite low since it is less than 1 FTE), my completed undergraduate degree, a mix of both, or any depending on which one I choose?

I think the short answer is, it depends where you’re applying!

Oh my bad, I completely forgot to mention where I was applying to haha

So, I've sat the GAMSAT this year and will be applying to GEMSAS universities, and I'm fairly certain they'll take my completed bachelors degree. As for undergraduate medicine universities, I'll most likely be applying to UWS/CSU, UNE/UON, and Curtin through non-standard entry

Unfortunately the unis have a bad habit of not counting credited units for Selection rank purposes. There was a case a guy completed a one-year Masters which would be eligible for JMP (UON/UNE) even with a Pass, but since he got one unit credited from elsewhere JMP considered it less than 1 FTE didn't accept its use, so back stepped to his undergrad which didn't meet the 4.3 hurdle.

In your case, if your completed degree was 4.3+ you'd be eligible for JMP with the backstep. If your 4-subject Dent is 6.5+ or your completed degree was 5.5+ you're okay for WSU/CSU (they use either that meets the hurdle). UNSW apparently combines all the studies. Not sure how JCU/Curtin do.

Might Duke of Ed help in any way? Should stuff like volunteering at a vinnies, state level sports help? And also, what are some things that you guys did that helped you get in?

They won’t directly help at all (as in, you are not given any concessions when you apply if you have these in your CV), but they may help indirectly for unis with interviews or written applications as you’ll have some additional experiences to draw from in your responses.

The biggest things that help you ‘get in’ are ATAR and UCAT. That’s it.

When you're on the course preferences page, there's a box under each course for your UCAT number; you'll enter it more than once if you're applying to multiple courses eg. UNSW med, UoN med, CSU dent.

Hello,
So I just had a quick question about how offers work..
For eg.
If I get an offer from Latrobe in the December round (bc I am a gap year student) can I accept it but not enrol?
Because I am aiming for JCU and their offers come out in January.

I do want to accept the offer at Latrobe just incase but is there a time period that la Trobe gives for when I need to enrol by?

And also, if I enrol for a course at a different uni is it possible to still get offers from different admission centres and accept other offers?

Some offers allow you to accept then enrol later. Some offers you don't have the choice, you are required to enrol as part of accepting the offer. But that doesn't matter.

You are eligible to receive another offer, different state or same state different offer round (see note below). You accept and/or enrol the same.
Technically you can sit on both until the semester's census date, but would be kind of you to quickly decide to relinquish one and inform the school asap so they can offer it to another applicant.

Note: To receive another offer in same state different offer round, you must move the accepted/enrolled course to a low pref. If left at high pref the TAC will assume you already got your pref so won't offer you a lower one.
