Quick Questions Thread #2: 2018-2019

Hi, I just wanted to ask about entry into medicine courses after already starting an undergraduate degree. Which Uni's in Australia don't accept students who have already started an Undergraduate degree? Also, I'm planning to do Commerce/Computer science at unsw next year and resit UCAT. Are there medicine uni's that will not accept an application from me because I don't have science units, or is the course I do irrelevant as long as I maintain the required marks to maintain entry as a non-standard applicant. Cheers.

Hi, please see the section for non-standard applicants in this table, then check these schools' prereqs

You are welcome to ask more questions afterwards.

On my UAC application it says for UNSW ( my second preference) that I am 'Eligible - subject to being competitive.' However for my JMP preference (1st) it does not say anything at all ( not even ' additional criteria pending or whatever). Can anyone clear up what this could mean? Have I done something wrong regarding my JMP application?

UAC application codes are notoriously unreliable and inaccurate. For example, my JMP one last year said I was ineligible altogether due to my academic results. I wasn’t (GPA 7.00!) AND I ended up getting an offer.

Feel free to call them Monday to double check, but definitely don’t panic :D

Would anyone happen to know when med offers from Adelaide are expected to be released? The admissions guide implied that it could be as early as December

Hey I'm wondering if anyone could comment on my chance of an offer at Monash or Adelaide?

ATAR 98.5
UMAT 66/53/51 = 170 = 80th
SEAS/Consideration would put my ATAR to 99.3-99.5 for Monash, not sure how much for UAdel
Rural RA2/MMM4

Adelaide interview wasn't a disaster but I felt I didn't really 'shine' or anything.. Maybe 30th-80th %ile? (idk)

I'm asking because I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to accept my UTas accommodation offer because if I cancel it's a $150 holding fee if I get in to (and likely choose) Monash or UAdel instead?

Thanks

Have you gotten into UTas?

Imo you should assume the worst case scenario of not getting an offer from either. Uni accommodation is competitive.

Congrats. Any idea if all rural offers have been released?
Not quite sure what you mean?

If you mean have all UTas offers been released, I'd ask LMG! From memory she might have said there might be a few more trickle out - but I might be totally making that up!

If you mean by other unis, I believe WSU will be the next uni to release offers, which will be this coming Wednesday (if it's your first UAC preference). Other than that I think they're all in the main offer rounds in early-mid January.

Sorry, what I meant to say was whether all rural offers for med at UTas have been made. But thanks and good luck with further offers. Hope it all goes well.

What happens if a person's results come in just a few days before UAC deadlines close? I am going to presume that after the deadline closes and UAC is sorting offers they would access any new results, is that right?

Great job. You may want to update the collated data for UTas offers.

This is not a new offer. It came out at the same time as all the other offers we have had reported here so far (9th Nov) and is already in the data list (with a predicted ATAR).

The last bit you mentioned here got me concerned with UAC preference orders. Ive got UNSW med first and WSU med second so I'm just a bit paranoid WSU will flick me the middle finger once i get rejected from UNSW.
Just to be clear, UAC preference order does jack to offers made, right? My mum said if i eat my greens i can get up the chimney like santy claus once in a while you could eat my corn fields down to the nub of course my dear you may.

Your preference order doesn't affect your chances of getting in. The unis have no idea what order your preferences are in.

Edit: For WSU rural's round then apparently order does matter because they only make offers in December for rural students, so it must be preferenced as number 1 in this round.
