Quick Questions Thread #2: 2018-2019

Just received this reply when asking about where I stand for subsequent round offers & feedback from JMP Admissions View attachment 2524

I came back to this thread today specifically looking to see how you did. Your passion for medicine is really clear and from what I understand you're making progress every year toward your goal. I really hope this setback doesn't deter you from continuing to apply

If JMP do second rounds do we need to do anything in UAC to make the application eligible for further round offers?
Nope, just leave it in your preferences and make sure you don't have other courses preferenced higher than JMP (unless of course you'd prefer to get an offer from said courses if you haven't already).
Can I enrol in more than one course for the moment and then unenrol from all but one? Wouldn't the govt find that I've enrolled in multiple courses because I'll be registered with HECS for multiple unis?
You are fine to do this - so long as you un-enrol from the degree at Adelaide (or whatever your less preferred course(s) are) before the census date (this is usually around week 3 of the semester) you won't accrue any additional HECS debt.

Hey I don't know if this will help but I have been in that same position for a number of years despite working so hard, and it really does suck. For myself, coming up with a logical plan B really helped me to take my mind off the sadness and reassure myself about the future. There are definitely other pathways, and if I can get in after failing for many years, so can you!! Hang in there :) Send me a pm if you'd just like to chat to someone too
Thank you a lot man, seriously thank you!! Will let the emotions flow then think about Plan Bs. Will send you a pm soon too, fingers crossed for other states for now :)

Your qualification/s do not meet the minimum requirement for the following:

  • Pref 1 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 25 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP)

Did anyone who got rejected get this? Or is this for bottom of the barrel

I got this... does it all mean the same? I am devo really felt confident about my interview.
Results of your course preferences

Offers were made to more competitive applicants for the following:

  • Pref 1 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 25 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP)

Should I enrol in UNE even though I think there's only a 20% chance I'll end up studying there and I'm also enrolled in UTas?

You can definitely enrol in both until you’ve had the chance to weigh up your options. Just be mindful of those still waiting, so don’t hold onto your extra offer unnecessarily.

Congrats!

Hey guys just had a thought. I've gotten an offer from JMP, but with it being in Armidale, I'm not too keen on it. It was my first preference, so I don't know if WSU or UNSW might have offered me something. Is there a chance that everyone accepts WSU/UNSW and I don't get an offer in the next round, even if I had been eligible for first round? Hope that makes sense

Both UNSW and WSU will make additional offers yet, so yes, there is a chance for you to get a subsequent offer. It's probably not a particularly huge chance, but still possible.

There are already people here saying they're declining WSU in particular.

I'm going to say no this isn't a likely outcome at all, given a) people will be declining offers for others as LMG! mentions and b) if your rank score was high enough to make you eligible for a UNSW or WSU offer, then you'll receive one in the next offer round with interstate students (provided you rearrange your preferences now to put UNSW and WSU above the JMP).

Does anyone know if the BSc/MD double degree for Sydney only count the final year's grades? I got 1 A* in the year before but they didnt seem to register it.

Hey, I got this in the email from UAC regarding JMP, anyone know what it means? Thanks
You do not meet the additional requirements for the following:

I’m not sure whether you tried to upload an image and it didn’t work, but, assuming it’s saying you did not meet the minimum requirements for the following:
  • Pref 1 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 25 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP)
This just means your interview score wasn’t high enough for a place offer in this round. You may be eligible for a place offer in subsequent offer rounds but it’s unlikely, unfortunately.

Hi, thanks for replying so to quickly. I wasn’t trying to attach an image, just showing that it said “additional requirements” rather than the “minimum requirements” that other users have gotten. Pretty confused about what this means.

I’d say you met the ATAR and UMAT cutoff but the interview (the “additional requirements”) would’ve been what let you down. Most courses only require an ATAR which is probably why they’re referring to it in that way.

Hopefully you received another offer or have more potentially coming! :)

For those who didn't receive JMP offers, I've seen two types of messages so far.

1. Offers were made to more competitive applicants for the following:
  • Pref 1 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 25 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP).

2. Your qualification/s do not meet the minimum requirement for the following:

What is the difference between these two?

Pure speculation, but now that I've seen this I'd imagine that 1. means you "passed" the interview and may be eligible for later round offers if there are positions available / the interstate interviewees don't perform too highly (for lack of better phrasing) and 2. means that your interview score is too low for you to feasibly achieve a later round offer (or you didn't meet the ATAR/UMAT cut-off).

A1 or LMG! may have a more definitive explanation though.

Lyyrre I honestly don't really trust the UAC codes so if there is any confusion about your status I'd be contacting the university to clarify. Last year I had the code you've listed second re. not meeting qualification requirements, despite having a GPA of 7.00, a UMAT of 98th%ile, and going on to receive an offer, so it didn't mean anything useful.

I haven't gotten any emails at all from UAC yet. Seeing as some others have gotten one regarding JMP, should I be following up on this?
Thanks

I'd call them on Monday. Have you received any correspondence from UAC on the actual application website?
