Day 1 Post-Curtin Interview
Sorry to bother everyone, but I feel like I read it somewhere and can't think where - does anyone know when results for interstate interviews are released? I seem to recall reading that it was next week, next Tuesday the 22nd or something, but ca't think where.
Maybe it was wishful thinking? I really hope not. Can anyone clarify?
Thank you!
https://s26475.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mbbs-admissions-guide-jul-2018v1.pdf 2nd round offers will be made via TISC on the 22nd Jan according to the admissions guide.

Hey guys,
With respect to assumed knowledge being chemistry for a bachelor of medical science degree, having not done chemistry in HSC is it necessary for me to partake in a bridging course or can I manage without it?

hi, received an offer for uq provisional, but still hoping for monash (im a vic student) ;; my atar is pretty low (97.90 + 2 bonus lote points for uq), umat 94%, decent/ above average interview, what are the odds of second round offer? Or do most of them go to interstate applicants?

Also, received an interview for uon, should I book a flight to go? I emailed them and they said last year had ~80 interstate applicants, with 12 being offered places. Is the 1 in 7 chance too risky? (Only pro I can think of in this case for me is the 5 years course)

Wait, I didn't think LOTE bonus points counted for medicine...or is that just South Australia?

Oh yeah, I guess not UQ, my bad

Hey guys, sorry if I'm asking quite a few questions. I have received an offer for the "Bachelor of Medical Science (MD Provisional Entry for School-Leavers) - full-time" at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus. However, the QTAC website displays a message indicating that:

"You must respond to QTAC within 5 days of offer and enrol at Griffith to secure your place."

The problem is that the wording here is very confusing, and so I'm not sure whether "within 5 days" involves ONLY accepting the offer (i.e. responding to QTAC), or whether "within 5 days" ALSO includes enrolling into the course on the Griffith University website too (on top of responding to QTAC)?

In other words, by the 22nd January 2019, do I need to:

1. BOTH accept and enrol.
Or:
2. ONLY need to accept , after which I can enrol at the university anytime after that.

I have been trying to contact Griffith to clarify this, but the contact form isn't quite working (error message: could not send form)– and I may have to wait to Monday until I can call the school. I hope that makes sense; the reason that I'm inquiring is because I am still waiting for possible offers from another university that release offers on 25th January. I have accepted the Griffith offer but don't want to enrol in Griffith until I have confirmed that I will be attending Griffith University. If anyone has confirmative information from Griffith, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know, thanks!

If I was you, I'd do both. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure you can enrol at Griffith and then later, if you get an offer elsewhere, pull out before the course starts.

In my experience you should be fine without it (assuming it’s indeed “assumed knowledge” and not a required prerequisite for entry into the course) but I’ve never studied at UNSW so maybe it’s different there.

If your only current offer is UQ (and judging by your UMAT I’m guessing it’s a bonded offer - which means you’ll need to do 3 years RoS under the new BMP scheme) you should definitely be attending the interview for a chance at a JMP place offer (5 year course and chance at CSP and closer to home and if you get a BMP you’ll only be under the 12 month RoS scheme).
Wait, I didn't think LOTE bonus points counted for medicine...or is that just South Australia?
UQ award bonus points for Maths C (or equivalent) and LOTE, but this only helps applicants get over the 99+ ATAR hurdle - it doesn’t actually increase their selection competitiveness (which is based off UMAT result).

If you’ve accepted through QTAC I believe (note: not 100% sure) that you have until the “last date to add a course” a couple of weeks into the semester to enrol, but as above there’s no reason why you wouldn’t play it safe and enrol now. Enrolling at Griffith won’t influence your chance at other offers and if you do receive one you can just unenrol from Griffith prior to the census date.

Thanks Crow, I've taken your advice in both accepting and enrolling, thankfully I already had all the documents required for the enrolment such as the TFN so it wasn't too much trouble – trying to schedule out all the classes without time-clashes was tough though haha.

Hi. I was wondering - if I defer my JCU med place for 1 year (to start in 2020) would it be linked to the current bonded scheme of 1 year ROS or the new 2020 bonded reforms of 3 years ROS? Thanks.

You would be linked to the new terms.

ETA: There is some confusion about this. I'd recommend getting advice in writing from the administrators of the scheme.

Hi,
I know that Griffith has already sent out offers, and with the following message it is impossible for me to get one, but I was wondering why under my preference for the medical course did it say 'Not satisfied'? I just wanted to know as it was confusing me for the past few days. I don't think it's because of a score requirement (ATAR or UMAT), but maybe because I didn't submit some information? Can someone please clarify this for me for future reference?
Thanks, and here's a screenshot:

(I clicked on 'More information' but it still doesn't tell me anything)

Hi namida, a rank of 99 (or OP1 or ATAR of 99 or whatever IB equivalent of this is) is considered a minimum selection criterion for Griffith Medical Science. You did not have a rank of 99, and therefore didn't meet this "minimum requirement". Someone with, say, an ATAR of 99.0-99.30 might've satisfied the minimum criteria but missed out on an offer.

I understand that, but I also didn't get an UQ offer, but it says 'Satisfied' under it?

Did you study Maths C equivalent or LOTE? This would've increased your rank to the minimum of 99 required by UQ. Griffith, on the other hand, do not award bonus points to inflate ATARs for anything other than rurality.

That makes sense... I did study a LOTE subject, which explains why I would have been marked as 'Satisfied' for UQ even though my UMAT score would have been too low.

Is it easier to get into med at the Adelaide / Flinders through repeating year 12 or through a bachelor of health and medical sciences (advanced) at Adelaide?

Do you mean if someone gets into a provisional med program this year will apply 3-year BMP policy because will study 2-3 yrs bachelor degree prior to the MD, but will still apply 12 months BMP if gets into a direct med program?

This is my understanding, yes. A provisional entry student isn't officially a medical student until they enter the MD, and won't receive official BMP documentation until they do so (by which time the new BMP scheme will have been implemented). If this applies to you, I highly encourage you to get confirmation of this by contacting [email protected] as well as the UQ/Flinders/UWA/Griffith medicine admissions team (and if you do so, we'd highly appreciate it if you reported the response back here).
