UCAT Results Discussion 2019

If you maintain a 6.5+ GPA I'm nearly certain that you'll be getting an offer given your UCAT :) it's extremely unlikely that the cutoff will be even near your score

Edit: referring to UQ dent
I agree with that, save your money and time if all you want is uq dent :)

Is there any discussion for applying to UK med schools with the UCAT/ any decent source of information? I know it's very hard to practice in Australia with these qualifications but it'd be good to check out all options.

Predicted ATAR/GPA: Atar: unsure because I did CIE A levels (My best 4 subjects were 3 As and 1 B at A level), Aussie GPA for my 1st year of uni (FTE): 7
UCAT Percentile Rank: 95%ile

Applying to: WSU med, JMP med, CSU dent, UAdel dent, Latrobe dent, UNSW med, UQ dent (My first preference), Griffiths dent
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: None
Specific Question: Which places in particular should I focus my attention towards travelling for an interview? I don't think it's feasible for me to be able to fly to every place I get an interview offer from, on the basis of time and the finance involved (Mostly looking at unis which include UCAT and academic results in the offer ranking, would rather avoid flying for interviews if offers are released solely on interview).

Is there any way to arrange so that I go for interviews after 15th January (The date when UQ dent offers are released) by sorting my preferences in a particular way, as my first choice is UQ dent.

You've got answers for Dent so this is for Med.

If your CIE was 3 As not A*s I doubt that would give enough an ATAR to (after combined with GPA) get you a UNSW interview.

You are probably borderline for a WSU interview (late Nov) but you can be certain of a JMP one, which is in January for NZ applicants. I suggest you contact JMP early October (don't leave it until late October when they have completed preparing the invitation lists), ask them to give you one in their Nov-Dec interview round instead so you can combine with WSU in one trip. No guarantee but schools have been known to accommodate these requests.

Your ATAR+GPA equiv rank for UNSW is around 98.8, with 96%ile is borderline for UNSW with 10-20% chance of an offer if you get an interview.

Probability-wise you have better chances at JMP & WSU with 25-30%. JCU is largely dependent on your written application.

Thank you for your reply, I knew it was a longer shot after I saw all those 99+ ATARs! At least there's possibility though, thanks.

How do you calculate a gpa uac rank of 98.1? I thought they only go in increments of .5 each time according to the gpa to atar conversion table? Thanks.

Convert the GPA to an ATAR equivalent value using the table. Then, find the average of this value and the high school ATAR.

Specific Question: Very curious as to where I stand with UNSW interview offers and whether I have a realistic shot? Got an offer with 98.90/97%ile (73/58/63=194 off memory) (just about the lowest of any i'd heard) last year but don't know how the GPA sliding in there will affect that + the ever so slightly lower UCAT.

Will boost your chances significantly actually, 98.90 + 99.5 (6.5+ is considered a 99.5) /2 = 99.2. Pretty much guaranteed an Interview; and I am not sure about percentage chances though probably a better than 20% though. Remember 97th% umat is 96th ucat so they are virtually the same anyways :)

Is this 6.5+ = 99.5 confirmed for UNSW? I was under the impression UNSW used a different system - atleast i've been reading about that in other posts?

Adding to Cal's reply, make sure you will complete 1 FTE (8 units) by end of year for the 6.75 to convert to 99.50 (if less than 1 FTE it could be only 98.0). Last year your offer chance would have been around 20%, this year I guess 30-40%.

You will also get JMP & WSU interviews with 25-30% offer chance.

This was the exact reason I posted above you need to complete 1 FTE by end of year. The person in that post withdrew 1 unit thus less than 1 FTE, GPA 7.0 was given only 98, combined with 99.95 to ~99.0.

Btw for all newbies' info, that poster had the unique record of 99.95 / GPA 7.0 / 100%ile and is now a proud UNSW med student (despite equiv getting dragged down to 99.0).

Ah ok thanks for the clarification, it's so hard to scrap information on non standard entry so reading that post had me concerned given the limited information

Just reading on the above posts, when I apply to UNSW med as a non-standard around September, I will not have completed 1FTE (8 units), but I will have completed them at around December. Will this make a difference to my application or does it not matter because offers come out after I have completed 1FTE? tia

*will this make a difference to my GPA (i.e. make it lower/higher) or do they only take into consideration my GPA after the interview

yeah, 1FTE at the end of sem 2 is fine. Doesn't the university semester end mid november? either way you should be cool

Didn't you notice I carefully said by end of year twice above haha.
For UNSW that's for both interview invite & offer. For JMP & WSU it's for offer only since they don't care much about GPA at the invite stage.
