That's great to hear all the best!

WSU is literally my first preference and I'm currently a first year student sitting on a 6.5 GPA. I'll be sitting the UCAT next year and I'm beyond scared of not getting an interview.

This may be a stupid question but would you have any idea why you didn't receive an interview from WSU?
Thank you! So WSU, weights the different sections of the UCAT and this year they put a huge emphasis on verbal reasoning (which from my scores is my most shocking section). If you're interested, i think A1 did a thread on his estimations on how WSU weights their sections. Even with my GWS status, i missed the cut offs :( Best of luck for your UCAT next year! (and focus on VR lol, if WSU is your first preference).

Some with a strong VR score got WSU interview with 86%ile overall, vice versa some missed out even with 97%ile. We don't know if the weightings will be the same next year but it's probably wise to focus more on VR prep for WSU.

Oh wow that is pretty surprising that they would have an emphasis on VR.

Thank you so much I appreciate the help!

You're amazing always know that :)

Wow! People in the 80's got an interview!

Thank you so much for the heads up I'll definitely be focusing more on VR that what I initially planned.

From the deep depths of my heart I would love love to go to WSU Med for multiple reasons so hopefully by keeping up to date with their scoring system and any additional information would give me a better chance of getting in! (though I know it's more wise to keep my options open nonetheless)

Hi everyone, if we wish to get our backup offers in the December round of offers for UAC, should we temporarily move them above the medicine courses? (As far as I am aware all medicine offers in UAC are made in January, please correct me if im wrong)

You can (and no harm) if you want to. Apparently you don't need to, UAC will skip over any higher-pref Meds since they don't participate in the Dec offer rounds.

Considering both UWA and Curtin weigh UCAT (your weaker point) only half as much as ATAR & interview I'd say 99.90+85%ile gives you about 50/50 offer chance. Except I keep hearing UWA doesn't make many offers to non-WA applicants, that would make your UWA chance smaller.
I have doubled checked with UWA that they now weight UCAT, ATAR and Interview all the same now this year (ie. 33:33:33). Last year, it was like you said, a 20:40:40 split.

Im kind of in the same boat with a ucat of 86. With this change, as well as the absence of the 50/50/50 rule(im also interstate) should I even bother booking a flight to perth for the interviews? I live overseas so it would cost a lot.

Honestly I haven't got enough information to make a call with that. Even MSO doesn't have a log of many interstate people going to either uni to make a real decision. On the one hand you have UWA that seems to favour WA applicants, and ranks of UCAT. On the other hand you have Curtin that doesn't seem to favour local applicants very much and takes into account ATAR and UCAT when making invite offers. This means that, if anything, you probably have a significantly higher likelihood of getting a Curtin invite than a UWA invite because they don't seem to favour WA applicants and take into account your 99.95. What a 'significantly higher likelihood' means to you is different, because it could be a 10% chance and a 30% chance of an interview of UWA or Curtin respectively, or perhaps a 50% and 80% chance. I'm not sure, and I doubt anyone will be able to help you make a decision on this matter unfortunately. Interview invites are inherently unknown until they release, so you may end up just having a nice holiday in Perth if you book early than actually getting an interview. Or alternatively, fly to a city in Australia for an interview you know you'll get, then sit there until you either know or don't know whether you get an interview invite.

Your best bets (and this will depend entirely on what your ATAR ends up being) will be Curtin, UWA (will need 99.00+), UTAS (will likely need mid-high 99s, but very hard to predict), JCU (depends on written application, no UCAT), and Bond (full fee paying, no UCAT).

Best back up plan is a degree in a career you can see yourself doing full time should medicine not work out (with very few exceptions, non-standard and graduate entry universities accept any degree background). We have a few threads dedicated to this topic that I suggest you check out.

I'm not too sure about Curtin. For local WA applicants, I've heard that a 99.85 predicetd + a 90th UCAT failed to secure an interview (this is from word of mouth - unsure if figures are totally correct but around that ballpark). It seems that it is DEFINITELY harder to get an interview at Curtin than it is to get one at UWA.

Hi guys!! I have a question about the 2021 entry. I know it is still far but I want to know roughly the score of UCAT that I need to get into WSU or JMP program for medicine. Currently, my GPA is 5.833 for the spring semester. Will that be high enough as a requirement for the GPA? I've bought UKCAT and UCAT books in preparation and I'm also planning to enrol on a Medify course. Is it worth it though to start planning considering my GPA is not that high? hopefully, someone replies. Thank youuuu!!!
This year the cutoff UCAT score for JMP invites was 2840 (90th percentile). WSU is a little more complicated as they weight the sections of the UCAT unequally - see this thread: 2020 Entry Interview Invites - Collated (DATA ONLY)
I'm not sure of the GPA requirements for either program so I'll let someone else address that.

As helmut_schmidt said, the cutoff for JMP was 2840 this year.

As for WSU, there is an extremely skewed weighting towards your VR score (the first section of the UCAT). Rule of thumb is as follows:

800 VR and 80-85th percentile overall
700+ VR and 90th percentile overall
650 VR and 98-99th percentile overall

As you can see, VR can make or break your chances of receiving a WSU interview offer. The above figures apply to non-GWS applicants by the way.

I've realised that nsw atars are released on the 17th, with unsw interviews conducted from the day afterwards. If I am a standard sydney applicant (non-rural, no eas etc.) with 95% ucat and low 99 atar, should I start preparing for a possible UNSW interview?

(Added by LMG: as mentioned previously, one ? is more than enough)

The answer hasn’t changed since you first posted. Please don’t keep repetitively posting “what are my chances?” questions in various forms and threads - the answer is the same as it was the first x times.

Yes I will be keenly interested to see how UNSW sends out invites on 17-Dec and expects some applicants to turn up for interviews the next day.

Based on last year you'd be just above borderline for interview with 99.0, a 99.2+ will make it more certain (but still requiring an upper-end interview). Yeah if you can start preparing for it why not.

Hi all,

I was wondering if one of the more experienced members could advise me on my chances of getting into Monash uni med. I am a Victorian (not rural), got a UCAT of 2820 (89th percentile) and am likely to receive an atar around 98 (99.1 after adjustment factors). I may qualify for the Monash guarentee, but for various reasons I am unsure, so if you could comment on my chances either way that would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, King

Afaik the Monash guarantee helps get you an interview, it does not improve your place offer chance. You can disregard it since adjusted 99.1 & 89%ile should get you an interview anyway. Your offer chance is around 20-30%.

Just got the Atar 99.55 in Vic, ,no UCAT,none Rural ,is any possible get one place in USC? I will get one offer in La trobe, but still want do medicine.

Yes you'll definitely get USC, but why not Griffith Nathan/Gold Coast?

(OOps sorry I misread that as 99.95, 99.55 should get USC though).
