Ooh, your JPM is so close! You will really have to keep your fingers tightly crossed!! A chance, but maybe slim? Unless they Mis up the formula this year.

JMP will interview you though. Good luck!

Specific Questions:
-
second year on the rounds here so I think I know my chances at an interview but after scanning the pages of the thread, I didn't see anything representing Adelaide transfer stuff.
- what are my chances?
- how do the changes to preferential treatment of SA applicants apply to transfer students and do they only affect interview invitation ratios or actual weighting of interview performance?
- can anyone direct me to more information on the change to SA heavy selection?

Yep, you’re the first TT I’ve seen pop up so far.

You’ll definitely get an interview for both. Good luck!!

If you head over to the UAdel-specific forum page, there’s been a bit of chat about the changes already and you can ask your additional questions there, too. Actually, make that the state-based selection bias thread!

Well, everyone, things have slowed down here quite a bit so I’m going to head off in a minute. Please feel free to keep posting your stats using the template but just be mindful that you may need to wait until the morning for a reply.

Thanks heaps to the army of amazing helpers that pitched in to make today so seamless!

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: School Leaver (Even though I took a gap year this year, I am retaking one of my IB subjects in november, therefore, when registering with UAC, I am counted as a school leaver)
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 99.75 currently but 99.95 if I am successful with my IB Psychology retake in November.
UCAT Percentile Rank: 99
VR:760
DM:860
QR:900
AR:890
Total:3410
SJ:702
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 812.2
Current State: NSW
Applying to: UNSW, USYD, WSU, Newcastle (Not sure what else to apply for as I have a deferred offer from Adelaide already)
Rural Applicant: NO
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: N/A
Specific Question:
1) I have already received an offer from Adelaide which I deferred. Can I do interviews for all these unis and get an offer from them before responding to Adelaide about my deferment?
2) Does a bonded position really matter? (e.g. if I get a bonded position at a NSW uni should I take it over Adelaide which is unbonded, primarily because I can't afford moving interstate)

You can pull off that 7 for IB Psychology king! 👑👑

USYD: with a 99.95, expect to be invited to an interview (and to complete a written component as part of the interview process).
UNSW: with a 99.75 or 99.95, you've pretty much got the best chance possible of securing a final place offer. Don't get complacent with your interview though, as UNSW has specifically stated that very poor performance in one component will NOT be compensated for by the other two.
WSU: you're guaranteed an interview, but be wary that final place offer weighting is 75% interview and 25% UCAT (ATAR is only used as a hurdle).
JMP: you're also guaranteed an interview, but be mindful that place offer is 100% dependent on interview, ATAR and UCAT are only hurdles which don't confer you any additional advantage if you exceed said hurdle.

Answer 1: I believe you can, but someone can double check for me on that. It would be best actually for you to get into contact with UAdel directly.
Answer 2: read more about BMPs and career progression in the dedicated thread, but TL;DR is yes, it does matter, but how much it matters is dependent on the person.

As happened to myself, it's likely you will be asked to confirm your taking up (or even enrolling) the deferred place by December. It's for the school to know how many places they have for the new intake. If that's the case for you it'll be before you know of any new offers in January, you just have to accept/enrol Adelaide and withdraw later if you get a January offer.

Btw, why not Monash?

Also because I did not take chemistry in high school and I believe that is a requirement. Unless I am sorely mistaken...

Nardwuar cites cost reasons if I'm not mistaken, being a NSW resident.

5-year Monash is less expensive than 6-year Adelaide in case they get no NSW offer.
It's also cost comparable to 5-year JMP in terms of living away from home, and Monash is Go8 ;)

But not having done Chem explains it.

Specific Question: UCAT score is low. If I don’t get an offer this year with my predicted ATAR of 99.50, is taking a GAP year in 2021 to improve my UCAT score worthwhile; and will this enable me to apply to all the universities that I’ve applied this year year all ovr again? Thanks!

Med: will depend on what your actual ATAR ends up being. Assuming it’s on the upper end of that range, expect interviews at UQ, possibly Monash as a Vic applicant, JMP and Adelaide if very lucky (but realistically probably not), maybe UWA and maybe Curtin. JCU depends on written application, WSU is likely no, UTAS no, Griffith - maybe a USC spot if your ATAR is 99.5 and you’re very lucky. Good luck :)

CSU = dentistry, JPM = medicine.

Yes, unfortunately your UCAT will rule you out of all of the UCAT universities. Your best hope will be landing a spot at Griffith (may be very lucky and get a spot at USC with 99.5) or JCU (will depend on written application +/- interview quality). Here’s Mana’s view (which I agree with) on gap yearing, but naturally it’s up to you and depends on what you want to get out of it. Common pitfalls to avoid for year 12 school leavers and other medicine applicants

Yeah, unfortunately you’ll have to bank on getting a JCU interview (will need an amazing written application) or Bond interview (will depend on psychometric testing results). And sounds like you’ve already got the right plan in place by sitting both UCAT and GAMSAT next year to maximise your chances! Good luck :)

I'll give the Dent side of things a go:
JCU: always hard to predict
UQ: hopefully
Griffith: I think probably not, I think you need super high ATAR
CSU: hopefully
LaTrobe: hard to know as we get such little data reported here
UAdel: interview
UWA: interview (assuming over 99.00 ATAR)

JPM is the Joint Program in Medicine between WSU and CSU. CSU is a University that offers Dent and now a medical program shared with WSU.
