Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: Non Standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 98.7 ATAR and 7.0 GPA
UCAT Percentile Rank: 96th
VR: 670
DM: 770
QR: 880
AR: 800
Total:3120
SJ: 540 (horrible i know oops)
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 730.6
Current State: NSW
Applying to: JMP, WSU and UNSW
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: no
Specific Question:
any advice on my chances for this year is appreciated, looking at the rest of these responses im feeling like my chances are very low for my preferences of UNSW and WSU. Are there any interstate unis which may take my scores?
JPM is unlikely (last year needed ~750). UNSW is a possibility, and JMP is pretty definite. JCU and Bond are your only other Medicine options unless you have a completed degree, in which case Curtin is also on the table. Good luck!

Applying for: Med
Application Type: non-standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 6.6 (GPA)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 88%
VR: 740

AR: 860
Total: 2920

Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 740.6
Current State: NSW
Applying to: JMP, WSU
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: n/a
Specific Question: I know my chances for JMP are very very slim, I am wondering if it is plausible to still apply for WSU?
I would definitely still apply to JPM as your total is only 10 below what was needed last year and you just never know. As you said, JMP is unlikely. JCU with a good written application could also be on the cards. Best of luck.

Applying for: Medicine and Dentistry
Application Type: gap year
Predicted ATAR/GPA: actual ATAR 96.85
UCAT Percentile Rank: 99th

AR: 870
Total: 3340
SJ: 681
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 802.6
Current State: SA
Applying to: all universities except bond
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: none
Specific Question: Repeating 3 subjects so ATAR should improve to 99+. What ATAR will I need for med interviews at UNSW, Monash, Curtin and UWA specifically? Thanks.
99.35 was the lowest non-rural, non-EAS etc ATAR we saw get a UNSW offer last year. They got a CSP to Port Mac campus. Monash traditionally needs close to perfect ATAR and UCAT combo for interstaters. 99+ should get you Curtin and UWA interviews. I saw the 99.50 is safest for UWA as an interstater.

UNSW will use your ATAR or GPA whichever is higher hence your ATAR . You are competitive for all 3 universities and should receive an interview. You can also apply to Bond + JCU [Will need a stellar written application if they take your GPA into account].

Ooh really? I wasn't aware of that. I thought UNSW took a 50/50 weighting to atar and gpa, but if that's changed, brilliant!

Applying for:
Medicine
Application Type: Non-standard
Actual ATAR/GPA: 97.60/(UNSW uses WAM, so not sure about conversion)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 98/99
VR: 670
DM: 770
QR: 900
AR: 870
Total: 3210
SJT: 654
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 745.6
Current State: NSW
Applying to: UNSW, JMP, JPM, JCU, Bond
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: N/A
Specific Questions:
1) Based on last year's WSU formula total (I know it won't necessarily carry over for this year), would my total be a competitive score for an interview?
2) Do JCU consider between both ATAR and GPA, whichever one is higher and meets the entry requirements? I know JCU has a minimum GPA of 6.4, and I don't think my results are high enough to reach that. In that case, can they still look at ATAR (and written application as well) when deciding to give out interviews?

Application Type: Year 12 School Leaver
Predicted ATAR/GPA: unsure, most likely high 98 to low 99
UCAT Percentile Rank: 96th
VR: 790
DM: 770
QR: 860

Total: 3110
SJ: 565
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 778

Applying to: all medicine unis (realistically UAdel, UQ, JPM, JMP, UWA, Curtin, USC, CQU — but also UNSW, Monash, UTas, JCU, Griffith, Flinders, even though I don't expect any offers from these), and UAdel/CSU for dent
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: N/A
Specific Questions:
- will i get interviews from all my realistic unis (specifically Curtin as they also account for ATAR)?
- as i believe newly-introduced CQU follows the same weighting criteria for interviews/offers as UQ, theoretically, would my chances there be equal to my chances at UQ?
- does my low SJ score affect my chances at any of these unis?

1 : Your WSU score is borderline
2 : JCU will consider your GPA if it's 1 FTE, the minimum GPA your quoting isn't something JCU themselves have given so I'm not sure where your getting that GPA from. They will look at GPA + Written Application not your ATAR + Written Application

USC : Will require a Mid-High 99 [Low 99 would probably not be enough]
UWA : Dependent on your ATAR [I think you need Mid 99 ATAR]
The rest you should be fine for but I'm not sure about Curtin

CQU : Whilst the admission criteria are the same, CQU might have more spots for rural students as it's a rural focused campus but might be best to clarify with CQU/UQ

SJT : Your UCAT score is high enough to negate your SJT score

- Are there any other unis I could apply for which won't require GAMSAT?

What do you mean by a "direct entry course"? One that you can get into from high school (no further tests or one that starts the MD/MBBS component from day 1?
The terminology we generally use here at MSO is provisional vs direct entry to the MD/MBBS content. So the latter would be my guess.

Yeah sorry, that was unclear, just no further tests. Grad med's perfectly fine if it's like a guaranteed pathway.

WSU is worth applying to as it is a direct entry course. You can also apply to UNSW [Would need EAS though] , JCU , Bond , UQ.

JPM (WSU) is direct entry and your results would land you an interview so yeah, I'd apply. You are very unlikely to receive a UTas offer (high 99s required), Monash as a local is a possibility, and UAdel required 96th%ile last year, so fingers crossed it didn't shift. JMP would also be a good option for you.

We don't tend to deal with GAMSAT requiring universities here. Those are for when you have a completed degree. You could go for provisional entry, which is where you do an undergrad first and as long as you meet the GPA requirement, your progression to the MD is guaranteed (ie. UWA, UQ, Flinders). That said, your ATAR is unlikely to see you qualify for any provisional entry degrees (with the exception of possibly UQ), so, at this stage, direct entry and down the track, if you're still looking for med, GAMSAT options are the way forward for you.

You should get a psychometric invite and this is after the interview period I think February. The interview is in March so it's a long time away.
- Dentistry : UAdel borderline , Griffith Potentially [Most likely is Griffith due to FFP] , JCU Dent

Bond will send you a psychometric test invite. Applications aren't open yet though as it's a much later starting course. I think psychometric test is held in ~Feb. JCU Dent is your best bet as it doesn't require UCAT.

ETA: I notice someone above mentioned Griffith Dent. Unfortunately, they have required 6.875 for the past few years. Hopefully the introduction of the additional requirement this year drops that but it’s hard to say by how much.
