yes but it asks what is the HIGHEST possible next lowest score that he could have achieved...

I think the logic there is choosing the smallest highest no. This ensures maximum values to be used for the lesser no. Once acquired, its just up to trial and error, to ensure youll get a highest 2nd value.

Are they easy? Compared to the real thing, definitely yes. New q types? um, maybe, no so sure about that - they have removed question types rather than adding them over the last few years.

For some example ones closer to UMAT difficulty, see the links from the Undergraduate Entry page (link in the top left) written by our very own members.

8.00 am at UWA ... crapping my pants already.

hey, just wondering on the thoughts on guessing you guys have
obviously running out of time is pretty common, do you guys put all C's or A's etc for the questions you dont have enough time for or do random combinations of answers?

the all C's A's thing really bites imo though as sometimes almost NONE of the answers are C or A etc at the end

to be honest, one thing that seemed to be working for me in terms of guessing esp. in section 3 is to pick the "odd" one out if it makes any sense.

less than a week to go guys! Good Luck and I might see you at olympic park

It actually depends on the nature of the guessing and how many you will be guessing. If you mean blindly guessing ie. you're running out of time and you haven't seen the question, you'd have a higher chance of getting more right if you guessed them all the same letter than if you were to guess them as different letters. This is because you can guess them as different letters and there's a chance (how unlucky!) that none of them will be correct. Whereas if you choose all the same letters (I think going with the most common one you've seen from the previously answered questions) there's a chance you'll get at least a couple right.

Of course this depends on how many you're guessing. If you're talking about the last five, may not be as effective. If you mean 10 questions or more, there'll be a higher chance.

A suggestion might be to leave ample time at the end to at least be able to flick over the passages that you don't have enough time to adequately spend on and make as educated a guess as possible.

At least, this is how I feel. And admittedly I'm not the best with time management particularly with section 1.

You can go to the toilet but you don't have extra time. And since timing is crucial it's best you go right before. Not consuming any diuretics anytime before your exam may help, and not too much water.

I was sick before the UMAT and yeah, go before. You're wasting time if you go in between sections and it's a long walk.

I'd get there really early just to use the loo before everyone else does. It's pretty nasty afterwards.

I remember a huge que after section 2 for the bathroom. heaps of people missed some of section 3. and yer gulls is right...NO COFFEE or energy drinks...just dont haha

Haha if I had gone, it would have been during section 3...had so much spare time, it was ridiculous...

section 3? really? its my easiest section but by no means i had spare time. section 2 i had spare time just cause there are not as many questions..and you mostly spend all your time debating your own answer between two choices haha

i would've gone during S2 too, even though I would probably have rather caused my bladder extreme pain than go - time is very precious.

If you're female, the queues (even before the exam) are ridiculously long ( i remember a 20+ min wait), so don't wait until the last minute to go, because then you will be stressed and will need to pee even more and you might miss the start and stressing just isn't good. I think my strategy was to hydrate myself in the morning, go line up an hr beforehand and pee it all out, then join the line again once i've been because by the time i get to go again, it'd be nearly exam time. That means you can get it all out of your system right before the exam, but if you don't manage to, then that's ok because you've already been and hence there is no stress. drinking water helps clear my head, but definitely don't drink too much. And well, it's 3 hrs - not that long if you think about it, it's like the length of titanic and i don't pee during that movie..

Rule of thumb for anything UMAT related is, if you can do it beforehand then DO IT BEFOREHAND.
