I just wouldn't bring whatever was prohibited or I would leave them in my bag. Simple as that.

Can you at least bring in your bag into the examination hall? I know they said audio devices are prohibited, so i am assuming thats the ipod + the phone?

You can bring them into the hall but you'll have to leave your bag on the side.

No. They tell you to leave it outside or bring it to a special room. For the people who had their UMAT exam at UQ in Brisbane, we had to leave our bags outside the exhibition hall in the foyer at Building 27A before we entered the actual hall.

With prohibited items, it varies with the test venue but all allow some kind of storage either in a particular room or to the side, or outside the venue. Either way, yes you can bring things in but you won't be allowed to take from it during the exam.
Security could be an issue depending on the venue and where they get you to store your things.

Hi.

I've recently inherited (?) some UMAT preparation material which includes LSAT exams.

LSAT exams have two logical reasoning components that seem to resemble section 1 of UMAT. I was wondering if anyone can confirm this? Because at this point that's just my guess (and I'm a 1st timer so I honestly wouldn't know). I'm asking because I'm finding the LSAT logical reasoning sections slightly too straight forward/easy maybe?

I don't want to be lulled into a sense of false security and/or be mislead because I know for a fact section 1 is my worse section 0.o (according to ACER, I'm dangerously illogical-- go figure :\ )

Thank you!

I don't know what the LSAT looks like, but you can compare it with the practice UMAT questions that some MSO members have written to see if they are.

For the rest of you, give that a go if you haven't already, there are full explanations to each of the questions and suggested approaches :)

Thanks Mana! It turns out I was right. Your questions are way way harder :[ *sniff sniff. I should get points for trying though.

I have another question :] (sorry full of 'em today)

You know how sometime people re-sale old UMAT prep material, and make threads advertising this-- like booklets and what not, or passwords to files and such. Would I get in trouble if I made a thread 'selling' this material for free?

Just a thought. Because I don't want do that (which is what I want to do) and end up having a lawsuit on my hands or something equally crazy. That would just ruin my day :|

Yes you would. The problem is with distributing UMAT material that it isn't yours (and so there'd be problems with copyright infringements), not the price you charge for it. You won't get a lawsuit on your hands, but mso might.

MSO isn't allowed to discuss/promote any prep course to avoid any legal repercussions from said prep course agencies. Eventhough you might be giving your booklets up for free, it could still be seen as some form of privacy depending on the initial agreement you signed with your prep course provider and the general nature of the material you are distributing. MSO could get sued because of this. So yeah, you probably will end up in trouble.

EDIT: Looks like Lozzy beat me.

Please don't. We're pretty hard line about stuff like that, since it's not legal, and people get banned for advertising that.

How did you go in the questions?

[offtopic]P.S. got - your edit quote could be taken so, so wrongly. especially by me.[/offtopic]

[offtopic]Lol I did not notice that second meaning. For it to be pointed out by a person who has attended a Hillsong thing for a whole week, it must be very blatant XD[/offtopic]

Just a bit of an edit to the last post - you CAN give out stuff for free provided you have the legal rights to it. Essentially, this means you have to have written the UMAT questions yourself without copying any of it from the commercial prep courses or any other source - and your name will be attached to it so if it turns out you do not have the right to distribute that material, you are responsible.

But hey, if you can write your own UMAT questions, why not contribute to our growing database? :)

[offtopic]hahaha. just because I'm Christian does not mean I am not human... or male... :p[/offtopic]

I'm so glad I asked before I did this. I got them for free is all-- figured I might continue spreading the love. Oh well.

Thank you Lozzy, godoftoast and Mana! I wont be getting anyone sued, promise.

How did you go in the questions?

Question 1 I read it over and thought it was way to complex. So I made a table. Then it dawned on me that I don't even need a table (this is after reading the suggestion) and it turned out to be surprisingly doable (after spending the suggested 1 minute figuring out what not to do mind you). Next time I wont freak out at the sight of a long question with X's and the word indigo (and not do a table) :]

Actually, it's a pretty tight resources if I do say so my self.

I'm not sure what you mean by a tight resource... but I guess we'll take it as a compliment? At 50 posts you can edit the questions and I think we'll start having feedback on them too. Do try the others out as there are lots of different types of questions and I think we cover all the basic types so far :)

Haha, yeah tight is a compliment. It's some pseudo-ghetto speak I picked up from my 'gangta' cousins. Evidently though I'm just not gangta :[ 'Tight' never sounds cool when I say it.

Will do. I'll try to do them within the time limit even-- well I'll try to try... maybe.

Yeah. The suggested time is how long I would spend on that question if I were to be given it in the UMAT. If you can figure it out in that time you are doing well. If not, you might need a bit of work, but what is more important is that you can figure out the answers to develop your technique and thought processes. Don't waste the question by just clicking to find the answer. Work it out :)

Hey if anyone wants a good idea of the difficulty of the actual UMAT section 1 and what it takes to get a decent percentile score I suggest taking a look at the (publically available) resources for section 1 of the BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test - essentially an equivalent of UMAT run in the UK), available here: https://www.admissionstests.cambridgeassessment.org.uk/adt/bmat/Test+Preparation

On the website is the actual test from 2009, a marking guide that tells you the answers to each question and how to align the number of questions you get right with a final scaled score, and a mark distribution that aligns that final scaled score with a percentile. Assuming that the British cohort is similar to the Australian cohort I would say this is a reasonable indication of roughly where you are. Certainly for me I've tried the test and my resulting percentile was the same as my UMAT S1 percentile both times I sat UMAT.

Note that this only really works for S1, as the BMAT really doesn't have anything that is similar to UMAT S2 or S3.

Cheers greenglacier!

(I can't believe I haven't heard of this before! Here I was thinking I was some authority on amplitude test *shifty eyes)

In the actual exam, if one finishes one section with time to spare, is it ok to move on to the next section before allocated time is over?
