[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

Overall UMAT Score: 178
Section One: 73
Section Two: 53
Section Three: 53
Overall Percentile Rank: 80
Estimated ATAR/GPA: 99.45 (acheived in 2016)
Preferred University: UNSW, UNE, WSU, JCU

Application type: Undergraduate school leavers
State: NSW
Rural: No
ATSI: No
GWS: Yes
Other Bonuses: Nope

I wasn't too happy with the overall score but was decently happy about S1? Chances?

Expect an interview invite from JMP. JCU will depend on your written application. Probably with your GWS status for UWS, you can expect an interview from them, too. Your ATAR is amazing, so that might even open the UNSW pathway. Well done :)

Indeed this seems to be the case. Given that you know where to work on for improvement if you were to try again for next year, you're not too far off the mark.
Yeah, that seems to be my only option atm. Mainly sucks because last year S1 was my best section. I improved my percentile but I don't even know if I can use this for any uni.

Also, our tutor let us know that for one of our major essays (ie its weighting is quite high), most people only got a pass/credit. So I doubt I'll be able to maintain my GPA too :/

Idk, I just feel numb.

Overall UMAT Score: 156

Any possible really (preferably South Australian Unis)
Course Type: both
Application type: school leaver

JMP will certainly interview you. WSU might give you an interview here. UNSW you probably just miss out on. Adelaide might offer you an interview and Monash also you probably just miss out on.

Everything from that point is obviously interview dependent but don't forget to apply for JCU as well!

Apologies, I meant my overall percentile rank was 89!! Does that make a difference?

Also - do you what minimum requirements I need from my first year of university?

Thanks and sorry for the bother :)

Overall UMAT Score: 163
Section One: 64
Section Two: 44
Section Three: 54
Overall Percentile Rank: 72
Estimated ATAR/GPA: 99.95 for South Australian Universities (equity bonus points) and 99.3 for interstate
Preferred University: Flinders and Adelaide University
Course Type:
Medicine
Application type: school leaver
State: South Australia
Rural: No
ATSI: No
GWS: No
Other Bonuses: Disadvantaged School

Question/s: Are there any chances of me getting a second round offer at either of the South Australian Universities?
Are there any interstate universities at which I may be eligible for an interview?

Just for the record, equity bonus points don't quite add up in a linear fashion. If you had 4 bonus points for example that would probably push a 99.3 to a 99.7 or so from a rough estimate.

If you have enough bonus points to push your ATAR to a 99.95 then you would be looking at both Flinders and Adelaide as potential options.

Question/s: Really wanted to get into Monash but I doubt it with my UMAT. What do you think my options are of getting into the others/ UNSW because I also have that rural aspect/EAS considerations?

How rural exactly (how many years and what RRMA?) Monash might consider you still through their rural pathway depending on how rural you are.

As the supply and demand for rural places changes so much each year, I'd be at least asking around at some of the universities to see if you'd be considered under their pathways. Certainly I would be applying everywhere through all the rural pathways I could find - I have seen scores much lower than yours get into Adelaide, Monash, UNSW, the JMP, and so on. Don't forget that as a rural applicant with an OP of 1 you're also a very strong contender for JCU!

Unlikely, due to your UMAT, though I'm not sure how the UNWS bonus system works, so someone else might be able to advise you more accurately.

I'm RRMA 5 and 6 (moved places) for the past 6 years.
Thanks! That instils a little more confidence.

Unlikely for JMP. They have a S1 cut-off that tends to be 60+ so you might just miss out. Also unlikely for UTAS and WSU. Unsure about UQ, but I think not.

Unfortunately the way that those bonuses tend to work is to boost your ATAR - no changes would be made to your UMAT for this, which means unless the points boost you to a 99.95 ATAR equivalent, you're probably out of luck here.

You might squeeze in to UNSW. JMP will interview you but WSU probably won't.
