Hopefully I'll see you there (at UTAS Med) next year! We have similar scores. Your S1 won't be a problem. Last year, the lowest non-standard score to get an offer was 189. Come join me here: UTAS MBBS 2018 Hopefuls

A rural 99 ATAR student with *13* years rural and a 79%ile? At this point with that score I would be applying literally EVERYWHERE - you have a strong shot at every university out there for medicine, and she should be very proud of her results. $100 says she gets a place in medicine if she applies to every medical school in Australia.

For the record, this means you should apply to JCU as well as all the provisional entry programs (UQ/Flinders/UWA/USyd/Griffith and yes, even Melbourne) as well as all the undergraduate schools (UNSW/WSU/JMP/Adelaide/Monash/Curtin). Surprisingly enough her worst shot would be at UTas, ha.

Good chances for both :) Congratulations.

Overall UMAT Score: 186
Section One: 56
Section Two: 67
Section Three: 62
Overall Percentile Rank: 94
Estimated ATAR/GPA: 97.7-98.5 (most recent prediction)

Application type: school leaver

GWS: no
Other Bonuses: Financially disadvantaged - eligible for SEAS in Vic I think

Could anyone give an indication on the sort of atar required for Monash/UNSW given my score :)

Well she has actually lived for more than 13 years in a rural location as we moved from Melbourne before she turned 3. Her heart was set on Monash and she expects that is no longer an option as she thought she needed an percentile 85. I think she is getting to the stage of being happy anywhere at the moment. UMAT was the worst experience for her. We have been to the Monash and JCU Open Days and will be doing a road trip to visit UNE and UNSW in a few weeks time.
Thanks for responding!

Overall UMAT Score: 167
Section One: 55
Section Two: 62
Section Three: 50
Overall Percentile Rank: 78
Estimated ATAR/GPA: GPA 6.84
Preferred University: WSU, JCU
Course Type:
(Medicine/)
Application type: (non-standard)
State: (NSW)
Rural: (no)
ATSI: (no)
GWS: (yes)
Other Bonuses: (no)

Question/s: Pretty sure I don't have a chance at UWS but thought I'd double check anyway. Do I have a chance at WSU? Thanks!

Also, to anyone who didn't achieve a UMAT high enough for an interview: I know it sucks but please don't be put off by grad entry (I've got an interview for ANU med). Go to uni, do another degree you'll absolutely love and apply to the graduate schools - you'll still be in med by about 21 years old and you'll have heaps of life experience to help you in your interview! Cheers guys, all the best.

I think you probably just miss out on WSU in terms of UMAT cutoff however it is a bit convoluted at the moment as to the actual formula they apply.

I wasn't too happy with the overall score but was decently happy about S1? Chances?

UTAS has generally weighted S2 as the one to score high in, not S1.

Given that you have guaranteed entry anyway, the only difference for you is one year of study, right?

For UNSW, you'll probably have to break a 99 for an interview with that score, and similar for Monash.

If you happen to be from a Broadway school in WA, you might have a decent chance at UWA as well, and certainly make sure to apply for Curtin in your state.

Overall UMAT Score: 163
Section One: 64
Section Two: 44
Section Three: 54
Overall Percentile Rank: 72
Estimated ATAR/GPA: 99.95 for South Australian Universities (equity bonus points) and 99.3 for interstate
Preferred University: Flinders and Adelaide University
Course Type: Medicine
Application type: school leaver
State: South Australia
Rural: No

GWS: No
Other Bonuses: Disadvantaged School

Question/s: Are there any chances of me getting a second round offer at either of the South Australian Universities?
Are there any interstate universities at which I may be eligible for an interview?

Atar's looking ok but i'm worried about my umat mark. How good are my chances of getting into UNSW OR UWS?

You might get an interview at UNSW but I don't think so at UWS.

As selection at UNSW is obviously taking UMAT and ATAR into account and you might just make the cutoff, you'd have to be one of the highest interview scorers there to score a place.

Yeah only a one year difference, but one less year of study/paying for accommodation interstate would be nice!
