Push that ATAR as high as you can (for UWA) and you probably have a good chance at both. Well done!

Overall UMAT Score: 171

Super happy with my improvement but bummed about section II?? Any hope?

Congrats on the score jump! Well done! I think JCU is your best bet. I suspect you won't quite make the UNSW cut off, and your S2 rules you out for JMP, UTAS, and Curtin. Your ATAR rules you out for Bond. Your S1 + S2 won't be quite high enough for UWS.

Overall UMAT Score: 176

**I'm a New Zealand citizen, so unfortunately I couldn't apply for JMP's and WSU's rural scheme :((

Question/s: Do I have a chance at any med universities? Is JMP strict on Section 1 being at least 60 for non-rural applicants?

Not 'strict' in that it's a published cut-off, but what happens is this: all applicants (non-rural) who meet the 50/50/50 rule are then ranked on their S1 score. Last year, the lowest non-rural S1 score was 60. Depending on the applicant pool it could be 61 or 59 this year. Worth an application.

Given (I believe) all NZ citizen students will be full fee paying from next year, you could try Bond. As a Vic school leaver, maybe Monash? If you count as rural at UTAS, then definitely there.

Question/s: What are my chances (if any) of getting into WSU and UNSW? Also, is there a new calculation method for WSU's UMAT scores? I heard that they just add section 1 and 2 together, and it has to be greater than 128.

IIRC, 129 for a S1 + S2 combo was the non-rural cut-off for UWS last year, so if nothing changes, you might just be on the money there!

Perhaps similar at UNSW, tbh. Your ATAR/GPA is on the low side but probably just scrapes an interview.

Congrats, best of luck, and sorry you had to wait hours for this :)
Thanks for the reply LMG. If i could weedle out a little more information from you, what uni do you think is my best bet for getting into medicine with these results?

Very good chances for interview at UNSW and JMP, and also for a provisional offer from UQ, tbh! You probably just miss out on UWS.

Congratulations :)

Question: Do I have a chance for any medicine Uni at all?

Provisional entry at UWA and UQ might be a go for you, but you'd want to make sure your actual ATAR is on the top side of 99.0. JCU and Bond (no UMAT for either) will also be useful applications to make :)

Best of luck.

Does undergrad dentistry at UQ only permit current year 12 leavers? My atar and umat should be high enough, but I'm a gap year student, am I still eligible?

Unfortunately you won't make the cut for UTAS, JMP, or UWS (probably, despite your GWS status, may still be worth an application). Curtin need you to have a completed degree, so you're not eligible there. Bond will only look at your GPA, not your ATAR (assuming you've done 2 years of uni at a minimum), so might be worth an application. You'd need an ATAR of 96+ to be competitive at UNSW, and at 96.0, a UMAT into the 200s (raw), so you miss out there, too. Your GPA probably won't be high enough for JCU, given you don't have rural status, but given the weight on the written application, it might be worth an application because you never know.

Grad entry might be your best bet (and is definitely not to be sneezed at as a legitimate option).

I'm actually not sure, but I don't think so. I have a friend hoping for UQ dentistry, and they're in first year uni, so... on that basis, I'd say you're eligible. Maybe someone else can confirm?

Yes for all three, given your rural status. Congratulations!! Keep your ATAR above 99.0 and you'll open some other doorways, too. Also, you'd be eligible for UTAS via the Rural Application Process.

Thanks for the reply LMG. If i could weedle out a little more information from you, what uni do you think is my best bet for getting into medicine with these results?

This probably depends on you, a bit (a lot!). Let's say you get interviews for both UWS and UNSW. From there, UNSW will rank your three scores with 1/3 weighting each (GPA/ATAR, UMAT, and interview), while UWS place more emphasis on interview. If you're someone who interviews strongly, then UWS will be your more likely option, as you can emphasise your interpersonal skills to 'sell yourself'. If you're not so great at interview, then you might be able to hide it a bit with the 1/3 weighting at UNSW. That said, with your lowish* ATAR/GPA, you'd probably need a great interview at UNSW to maintain your competitiveness.

On the basis on that ramble above, I'd say, assuming you get an interview, then UWS is your "best bet".

* note: 'lowish' is a relative term. Your scores are fabulous! Hopefully you know what I mean...!

Thank you so much, Now the next waiting game:(

And then one more after that!! So. Much. Waiting. :D

We here at MSO will try to keep you entertained throughout! Though there's the small issue of an ATAR/GPA to maintain in this time, too! Haha! Best of luck!

Hi everyone, just a quick question.

I'm a bit uncertain at the moment since my overall score of 153 (55th percentile) with two sections under 50 doesn't seem to be too competitive.

However, I do have the fortune of being a rural applicant, so I'm wondering if it's even worth applying with this status?

Hello!

You will probably miss out on interviews at both UWS and UNSW (Med), unfortunately. We believe that method is roughly correct for WSU, but it hasn't been confirmed by a representative from that University. For rural and GWS students, that number drops, but unfortunately not as low as 105.
