[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

Unfortunately Monash does not accept non-standard applicants to its undergraduate medical program.

If it did (or if you said non-standard by mistake and you are actually a year 12 leaver), then without very significant improvements in your ATAR (essentially high 99's) you wouldn't qualify for an interview there.
Thanks Mana for your reply, yes I am currently in year 12.

Hi

For unis which have chem as a prereq, is 30 the minimum score, or is it higher for some unis?

Generally if you have completed year 12 chemistry to at least a Band 4 equivalent in the NSW HSC (i.e. not actually very high at all compared to any of the subject scores you will need to have completed to attain an ATAR even remotely close to that which you need for medicine) you will have satisfied the chemistry requirements.

In the absolute worst case scenario there is always the possibility of completing a bridging course prior to university commencement.

Overall UMAT Score: 165
Section One: 47
Section Two: 58
Section Three: 59
Overall Percentile Rank: 75
Estimated ATAR/GPA:
99.85-99.95
Preferred University: Any (preferably in Adelaide)
Course Type: Med
Application type: School leaver
State: SA
Rural: No
ATSI: No
GWS: No
Other Bonuses: Health Care Card - Individual Bonus

Is there any chance at UniAdel or Flinders, I'm not sure about Adelaide uni as there is a UMAT cut off for interviews around 85 apparently... Also would the health care card bonus help in any way? In essence, any chances of getting into Med? Thank you!

Adelaide offers its second round interviews based on both ATAR and UMAT (i.e. students with very high ATARs such as yours who are under the first round UMAT cutoff get second round interviews.) With a 99.85 and that UMAT score I would be waiting for a second round interview for sure.

As Flinders is 90% on the ATAR and only 10% on the UMAT, you also have a very strong chance there if you actually get that 99.85.

Ah thank you. Just to clarify - the Adelaide admission guide for med 2018 says there is only one round for interviews which is why I was worried... Does the health care card bonus boost ranking or UMAT at all I'm not sure how that works? Otherwise if I follow through with the atar of 99.95-99.85 is that useful for any other universities? Sorry for the amount of questions... thanks so much for the quick replies!

As far as I know there is no bonus for having a health care card, either to your ATAR or UMAT.

An ATAR of 99.85 will give you a Griffith provisional medicine offer.
An ATAR of 99.9 will give you a place in the Melbourne MD Chancellor's program as a CSP (although this isn't a guaranteed entry, it does have rather high odds of entry after).
An ATAR of 99.95 will net you an interview at USyd for their provisional medicine program of which 2/3 will gain entry after the interview stage.

Hi Mana what other uni do you think I might be eligible, thanks.

One thing I don't get is this: isn't it impossible to be 100th percentile? Because that means that your score was better than 100% of all the scores, which is impossible since that means you'd have to have gotten a better score than yourself since technically you're included in the 100%. So shouldn't the highest percentile be 99th percentile?

To be honest those scores are unlikely to net you an interview at any of the universities. Your best bet would be the JMP, but the cutoff for that last year was a section 1 of 60, and you'd just miss out.

Not quite. A percentile is what you get if you ranked everyone by score and then divide them into 100 equal groups (of around 200 people each given the cohort is around 20000). So the lowest ranking person is the 1st group of 200 or so (thus 1st percentile), while the highest ranking is the 100th group/percentile.

Essentially another way to think about it is that if you scored x percentile, you scored equal to or better than x-1 percent of all candidates.
