UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

I am sending them an email regarding it. Perhaps it is a system error? Not to sound entitled, but I honestly can't think of a reason why this has happened. I definitely think the more people who speak up and inquire about it the better.
You're more likely to get a straight answer -- and faster -- if you call them directly, but I imagine they're getting absolutely swamped right now.

Currently we have these two non-rural non-EAS invites:

- 95.60 / 7 = Equiv ATAR rank 97.8 / 96%ile (3070)
- 97.3 (IB 39) / 6.8 = Equiv ATAR rank 98.5 / 92%ile (2970)

In these equivalents I used 7=99.95, 6.8=99.8 to be on the safe side. So if your combo is better than these but no invite we need to take up with UNSW.
Sorry I just updated my post, my SCATS application was accepted

How do you know it scats is accepted? I wonder if mine was accepted too
They emailed me a while ago 'This is to advise that the University has received your Special Consideration for Admission and the circumstances you have outlined will be taken into consideration in the selection process. '

University: UNSW
Course: (Med or Dent): Med
Percentile rank: 96
VR: 590
DM: 680
QR:
900
AR: 900
Total: 3070
SJ: 607
JPM/WSU formula (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR):
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 95.60 / 7
Number of completed university semesters: (non-standard applicants only): 2
Rural: (yes or no): no
State: NSW
Other Special Considerations: (inc. GWS, EAS, indigenous pathway, Broadway, Monash Guarantee, etc): scats
Hi! I’m starting to think I got SCATS even though they said it was rejected, did you get a confirmation email?

I think I did, from the email: "This is to advise that the University has received your Special Consideration for Admission and the circumstances you have outlined will be taken into consideration in the selection process. "

Yeah I didn’t receive any correspondence

I received an ATAR of 99.90 and a UCAT of 3010 (94th percentile) and also got flat rejected. My friend with UCAT of 2930 and ATAR of 99.75 was accepted for an interview (we are both high school leavers). I've been told to email [email protected] when I called, so seeing how that goes.
Do you know if your friend (who got 2930 UCAT) had any special considerations? I wasn't going to enquire to UNSW but I have a higher UCAT score than that and got rejected with a 99.70 ATAR which is also higher than some of the current invites

Don't feel bad about the word entitled. UNSW is a public uni funded by taxpayers like your parents. You ARE entitled to a fair consideration by UNSW based on its selection rules. It's not like UNSW can ignore rules & pick students randomly because it owns the med school.

Unsure if UNSW's interview offers are a bit funky this year. One of my friends asked me to confirm that their interview offer was legit (68th percentile UCAT) and it looks like it was. They also mentioned that they knew someone with 99.80 and 96/97 UCAT that didn't get an offer which seems really unlikely.
Did they have any special considerations taken into account? (Rural? EAS? etc.? )

I also got rejected, I posted before (99.8, 97th%ile) but I am starting to think its just likely that this year there were just too many good candidates. When I called UNSW they told me that this year the ATAR and UCAT are considered together but not at a 50:50 ratio that I thought it'd be. I took a whole gap year just for UNSW and to be honest I've been in deniable all day, but I'm starting to see how it could be. Is it time we just accept this?

I spoke to a lady over the phone who specifically told me they were considered in a 50:50 ratio

Wow I see, I also noticed on the site (I don't know whether I missed it before or its been updated) that they take the 'best' out of the GPA ATAR equivalent and ATAR rather than average of the two

"Once the applicant has met the minimum requirement, the "BEST OF" algorithm would apply and the qualification with a higher selection rank would be used as a final selection rank for medicine admissions purposes."

I remember that before it was 50% ATAR 50% GPA, could this change have brought forth many many more university candidates with competitive 'ATAR's'?

I received an interview and received an ATAR of 99 and an 89th percentile UCAT. I had EAS involved which I think bumped up my overall selection ranking.

Hi guys, I just read that UNSW is using the higher of your ATAR and university marks. My WAM at the end of 2020 is 88, yet I was rejected. Was this too low?
