I read the document. It doesn’t say that anyone who is in lockdown for 6 weeks or greater can apply and be automatically considered - that’s just wrong imo and it would have a null effect since nearly all of NSW is affected by lockdown.

It only applies to specific cases if you are in lockdown and do not have access to online learning material; evidence of such which must be provided by the school principal. This is to benefit and cater to kids whose schools can’t do online learning but the regulations are really tight in that you must:
- not have access to internet or online learning material
- did not receive physical material for course preparation
- do not have access to teacher

Applicants must meet ALL 3 criteria before applying. However since most schools actually can at least provide some form of online learning or resources, I doubt that there will be a significant proportion of illness/misadventure.

Oui oui, it'll be an absurdly tiny amount, I'd place my bets on it being like 50 people max (of the 58,000 who get an ATAR, it's not too significant), but in technicality, it would still raise their ATAR's.

This would raise some ATARs a bit but I don’t think it would affect the higher end. (The ones which UNSW actually considers). Reason being that these students would already be in a very disadvantaged school and will not have access to online learning material, meaning their learning and performance likely won’t be high anyway.

Si, Si. This I also agree with, if a school can't offer anything in any form for assistance, I do doubt its students are likely to have outcomes that meet medicine requirements.

So although not direct, I assume it's a form of unintentionally handing out an EAS, and so altering the "true" amount of 99s, 98s...

If it's believed only 50 or so students get misadventure considerations then it's moot but I like to clarify - Raising some students' HSC marks does not raise the overall number of 99s, it means the raised students push some non-misadv students down the ATAR ranking (whereas EAS does add more to the 99s club).

Similar to UCAT, if more & more score 2900+ it doesn't raise the number achieving 90+ %ile, it pushes the 2800s out of 90%ile.

The student profile for 2021 admissions says that 7 students came from higher education study i.e. non-standards. Doesn't this number seem really low? As a non-standard student trying to apply, it's a concerning statistic.

Im not sure where that statistic came from but there’s definitely more than 7 non-standards! Anywhere from 40-50% if not more (of students at Kensington who have been on campus)

Adding to chezpopcorn's reply, the student profile data are often unreliable. I saw UNSW's stats in two earlier years, about 1/3rd non-standards, 2/3rd school leavers.

Not much, actually. IIRC there was ONE person on MSO who applied via Gateway. They got a 90.8 ATAR and 2680~ (around there) UCAT. Important to note that we don’t know the outcome of their application. We haven’t got much data or knowledge about anyone else who applied so we don’t really know in the end.

Though, to apply to the Gateway Entry Scheme you need to meet ALL the 4 requirements they listed. (If you don’t meet all 4 you are automatically put as a Standard Applicant).

Just to clarify, they did get an interview invite but we don’t know if they got an offer.

I believe gateway was introduced for the first time last year and ya all know by checking their page that an ATAR of 87 gets a look in with a decent UCAT score. Also not everyone who were successful posted their UCAT and ATAR results last year. I mean after the 'uproar' who would!

Sorry, kinda having trouble with what you're trying to say... You think the gateway scheme messed up with invites in some way?

Also, yeah that's kinda true. It's hard to post stuff as a Gateway applicant with potentially lower scores when literally everyone is complaining about not getting an invite (especially high ATARs and UCATs).

They help you with your HSC I think with videos and applications into courses. Also an accommodation scholarship to one of the 'Kenso's' was thrown it. But I am digressing. Why should it cause an uproar haha. Regular applicants don't compete against Gateway ones, whatever low cutoffs for Gateway have no bearing on the regulars.

I'm a Gateway Entry Applicant applying this year in fact and the scheme is catered towards students from lower end socioeconomic backgrounds AND low SES schools. Also idk what "Kensos" means, does it mean "Kensington"?.

Yeah, (maybe!) Gateway could affect something but it was probably just a new Scheme that was implemented into the algorithm and UNSW not accounting for it. But at the same time, COVID also affected students and maybe more just applied under the hope of EAS helping their application. Further, Gateway applicants are ranked separately and so it doesn't affect the standard applicants at all.

Hi! Does UNSW have separate places for EAS applicants, or does EAS just increase your selection rank, and you compete with other general applicants?
