EAS just increases your selection rank to compete with other general applicants unless you’re Rural or Gateway. (Could be other types of applicants but idk much).

Important to note that you need to meet the minimum 96 ATAR cutoff before EAS points are even considered.

So there are 3 "pots" of Local, Rural and Gateway from which people are selected?

Basically. Rural and Gateway are just separate pools and there’s a guaranteed amount of Rural students each year. Compared to UNSW Gateway where they say “up to 10” meaning only so many can be accepted so even 10 isn’t a guaranteed amount.

So the "≈ up to 10 gateway" seats are separate from the total ≈55 Rural seats?

Hmm… I know a mate last year who got 99.95 and 2900 UCAT but still missed out on an interview at UNSW, apparently they said the cutoff was 2960?

(Btw, sorry I'm so new not sure if this is the right place to discuss uni stuff…)

Someone last year got a 2880 UCAT and got an interview which ended up turning into an offer. Albeit they were a non-standard.

according to UNSW, the lowest person to get an offer had 2890 (88th) and presumably a 99.95 (non-rural, non-gateway). They were really unorganised last year tho so I think ur mate tbh should've gotten an interview.

No. Not for interview. And for offer, you’ll receive the highest preference you’re eligible for. Rank your preferences in the order you’re interested in them. There’s a whole thread dedicated to this topic. If you have further questions, please post them there.

The same selection process for Non - standard entry. The person who got 2880 and got an offer must've gotten a perfect GPA and done really well on the interview to get an offer. This is similar to school leaver, if they got 2880 last year, they would've needed a 99.95 most definitely and a pretty good interview to have a chance at an offer.

Seeing as dotwingz has brought up A1's post from end of 2018, I'll assume that it still applies. I'm in first year non-med with a 2020 99.50. Does UNSW's equivalent rank table mean that, as far as UNSW med is concerned, there's no difference whether i get a 7 GPA or a >70 WAM?

That table is like 10yo and still closely matched conversions seen last 1-2 years so we believe it's current. However it's not an official UAC Table so is only a guide.

By that I mean, although this table shows 6.5+ = 99.5 I think UAC does extrapolate >6.5 to >99.5. Reason being UNSW said last year the lowest successful ATAR Rank was 99.60 yet several non-standards got offers, which means their GPAs must have converted to more than 99.5
GPA: 7.00, UCAT: 3140, BMP, Kensington, accepting, Feb round
GPA: 7.00, UCAT: 3090, BMP, Kensington
GPA: 6.89, UCAT: 2970, BMP, Kensington
GPA: 6.625, UCAT: 3060, CSP, Kensington

It follows that if you get 7 GPA it's likely to convert to better than your 99.50 ATAR.

I think it only dropped to 99.50 in/after the offer round2 (4th Feb).

After round1 8th Jan UNSW said to several applicants lowest was 99.60 as in this post

A non-standard got this round1 offer with 97.7 + 6.89 so 6.89 must have converted to more than 99.50

You gave me hope for a quick minute.

As hard as it is to accept, A1 's judgment seems to be right as always. Even if not, it's still a bit too unclear to choose to stop pushing.

I guess I'll have to keep studying properly 🤢
