UQ UQ Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Does anyone know whether UQ dentistry uses SJT score (or do they just use it if 2 people have the same score for the first 4 sections)?

Yes UQ Dent uses all 5 sections including SJT
(UQ Med uses 4 sections with SJT only as tiebreaker)

See under "Applicants with the same entry score"
> Submit your application

for entry into the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), the aggregate score from all 5 sections of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Applicants with the same aggregate score are ranked by their UCAT ANZ section 5 score. If this score is also the same, the UCAT ANZ section 1 score is used

This is the quote from the website, I assume this means they use your score out of 4500, then SJT, then VR

do you guys think 3000 will be enough for UQ dent this year? What was the cutoff last year?
3000 is most likely not enough for this year because they will use the aggregate of the 5 sections rather than 4 used in the previous years. SJT may make or break your chance for UQ dent.

It's pretty difficult to predict without percentiles but a safe score would be 4000+ [3200 on non-SJT sections roughly].
That's an absolutely ridiculous combined score, you should be made aware that the HIGHEST score anyone gets in Situational Judgment in Australia hovers around 750. The vast majority of students score between 550 and 650, as you can see here on MSO. Keeping that in mind, a theoretical 4000+ safe score would mean a 3400 cognitive - roughly 99.9th percentile. If your prediction is right only DaCommiePanda and Boi2369 will be getting UQ dent offers this year ;)

3200 cognitive was just shy of 99th percentile last year, and I see no reason for last year's 3000 to be this year's 3200. My semi-conservative estimate of the required combined score is 3700 (~3050 cognitive + ~650 SJ).

im really confused about this specific post. I thought the cut off for dentistry at UQ last year was 2980. And if it was does that mean there is a rural sub quota in dentistry at UQ? i contacted them a while back asking if there was a rural sub quota and the lady i was talking too said there wasnt (maybe she didnt really know?). So last year an adjusted atar of 99.95 and a ucat percentile of 76 would have got in? Because im sure i saw somewhere that the cut off was 2980.

I don't know anything about this particular topic unfortunately, so hopefully someone else can weigh in, but I DO know something about inaccurate information being provided by admissions staff. Med and Dent have so many additional factors that play into admissions that general admissions staff often don't have all the information/understanding required to provide accurate information. Where possible, we advise speaking with specific admissions staff (ie. Dent admissions), but even then this doesn't guarantee accurate information in our experience.

Hmm that does seem odd. I know UQ gives all rural students +2 bonus points but that shouldn’t change the UCAT.

The only thing I can kinda think it would be is that this is a super late top up and a local resident? So they gave OP a call because it was so close to the sem starting??? No clue this is all just guessing

It could also be some sort of EAS scheme maybe? I haven’t heard that applying to UQ dent before, or maybe an ATSI applicant?

So is adjusted 99.95 atar just a threshold, and then from their ranking is based 100% on UCAT? Or do they rank based on unadjusted atar?

UQ Dent ranks on Selection Rank first (SR = raw or adjusted ATAR), then within the same SR ranks on UCAT.
Because there were more SR 99.95s than places 99.95 became the cutoff, not really a set threshold.

(I sincerely hope UQ will change back to the old intent i.e. all 99s are on same SR 99, then get selected on UCAT).

I sincerely hope UQ will use the aggregate of the 4 sections of UCAT to select the candidates for an interview (panel or MMI), then use certain percentages for the 3 components (ATAR/GPA, UCAT and interview) to rank them for the offers.

I think they do that for UQ med. I don't think UQ dent ever had any interviews.

Hey, i know this is speculative but if i did pass the atar stage of my application, do you all think a ucat score of 3020 +582 sjt be competitive. Ik no one can know for sure but i just want a general idea.

I'm going to be speculative as well haha.
If the ATAR stage you pass is 99.95 I'd say 3600 should be good. Otoh if UQ changes the pass mark back to 99+ then it's not so competitive.

(Previous years when the pass was 99+ the UMAT varied from 88th to 92nd percentile).
