UQ UQ Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

1) Anyone know by what date I can add UQ dentistry as a preference on QTAC?

2) Also since UQ dent uses all 5 sections of UCAT, does this mean their total score will be out of 4500?

Since UQ Dent is not on the fixed-closing-dates list this general table applies
> Key Dates - QTAC

10th Dec closing for 13th & 21st Jan offer rounds
20th Jan or later for the later offer rounds, if UQ Dent still has vacant places.

Yes, but I don't see how it matters what out of?

1) the deadline was yesterday, so hopefully you already had it in your preference list.
( you can change the rankings(?) in your preference list even after the deadline (30th Sep) but you can't add new courses into your preference list.

2) Yes

UQ Dent doesn't appear to be included in the date deadline of Sept 30th (like Med is). It is not listed in QTAC as one of the courses with a separate deadline. Where did you get the info that the cut off was yesterday? These are the only courses listed under UQ in QTAC.

UQ dentistry uses the aggregate score from all 5 sections of UCAT, is it something new for this year?
  • for entry into the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), the aggregate score from all 5 sections of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Applicants with the same aggregate score are ranked by their UCAT ANZ section 5 score. If this score is also the same, the UCAT ANZ section 1 score is used

Incidentally, what is considered ‘section 1’ of UCAT? UMAT was clear on their ‘sectioning’, just wondering if UCAT is too.

Yes, it is new for this year. UQ Dent did not look at SJT last year.

Also anyone know why it’s a 99.95 selection rank?
UQ Dent's selection procedure is by Selection Rank *first*, then UCAT. Since there were more 99.95s (raw & boosted) than places on offer only 99.95s got into the UCAT-selecting stage. Adding SJT would not alter this, but...

Apparently UQ Dent has announced this year they are making 99.0 the threshold to go into UCAT selecting (threshold instead of a competitive cutoff which would make it 99.95 again).

So then if you meet the 99 threshold and your ucat is pretty decent you can essentially get an offer ?

Yes that's correct, provided UQ Dent will do what they said about the 99.0 threshold.
(Btw it was like this^ earlier since highest Selection Rank in Qld used to be 99, not 99.95)

Would this 99.0 threshold hold true for rural applicants as-well? Would a 68% be sufficient for rural? Thanks guys
I'm not sure with UQ Dent. Going by UQ Med when its selection method was similar, rural gets 2 bonus rank points plus 2 for maybe Maths C so they needed ATAR 95+ to make Rank 99, then UMAT %ile even in the 50-60s would get a place offer. I hope 68th is sufficient for Dent.

Last year there was a 76th Dent offer posted on MSO, there could be lower offers that we didn't hear of.
