UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

What are the cutoffs for UQ bonded places in terms of UCAT percentiles??

I have searched through old records, my best recollection is

2016 intake : bonded 179 (89%ile) - unbonded 183 (92%ile)
2017 intake : 182 (91%ile) - 188 (94%ile)
2018 intake : 181 (91%ile) - 186 (93%ile)
2019 intake : 184 (92%ile) - 189 (95%ile)

These were UMAT %iles, raise your UCAT %ile by 1 for comparison.

For provisional entry, do we need to apply for the undergrad degree we are planning on doing through qtac now or do we make that decision after being offered?

did the UQ consider the total umat score last year did it consider specific subsets. this yr they are going to consider total for all 4 sections not percentile.

Total score was the key determinant. Those that had the same score as the cutoff were then distinguished by S1 score as the discriminating factor.

Total score was the key determinant.

To add a bit of spice to this, UQ wrote on their website they used the sum of the three sections and they stuck to that wording. As a result someone with a higher Overall score/percentile did lose out to one lower. For example 60.4+60.4+60.4= 181/91%ile vs 59.7+59.7+60.7= 180/90%ile. UQ saw the former as 60/60/60=180, the latter 60/60/61=181 and gave the last spot to the latter.

The 91%ile appealed but UQ said tough luck that was their stated method.

Do scholarships apply for UQ med

Yes they do. For example, if you get a 5-year scholarship when you begin university, it will cover your whole undergraduate degree and then the first two years of med.
I don't think there are many scholarships for med specifically though (other than research grants, or subject prizes).

For the LOTE scheme in UQ, if we're interstate and we have an ATAR instead, how would this translate? Is this automatically calculated regardless?

Yes, the bonus applies to all applicants, not just Queenslanders - QTAC will process your application so you don’t need to do anything yourself. You should get +2 ATAR points for LOTE.

is uq considered postgrad? when we put it down as a preference, we just put down the med course right? not the undergraduate degree we complete before med?

Correct, it's a graduate entry course. When you apply you just need to list the medicine course down (note there are separate course codes in QTAC for bonded and non-bonded positions so you need to apply for both if you want to be considered for a bonded place). If you gain a place offer, you'll then be contacted by UQ to nominate the undergraduate degree you want to do.

Just a question about UQ, how does their provisional entry scheme work?
You apply, you get offered either a bonded or non-bonded depending on your score and then after you accept your offer they give you the option of what course you want to do as your undergraduate (from what I know you can do virtually anything) but 3 years is minimum degree time. And you have to complete a degree not do 3 years then drop out, then as long as you adhere to specific academic standards you get to enter med after you finish the first degree.

This is correct, but worth noting that UQ has introduced prerequisites for entry to the MD so when choosing an undergraduate degree students need to ensure that whatever they choose will allow them to complete said prerequisites.
