[Undergrad] UTAS Entry 2015 - non-standard

Not open for further replies.
Hey!
My umat scores are:

s1: 55
s2: 66
s3: 54

Total: 175, 86th percentile.

What would be my chances for UTAS?

Hi wishy just from reading all the other comments you probably have a borderline chance...completely depends on the cohort who apply...also you qualify for the 50:60:50 rule which is good. Same as me and a few others - you won't get a first round offer but maybe Jan/Feb.

Best of luck! :)

isaachose ryanposselt wishy - Best of luck for 2015 UTAS entrance! My UTAS entrance anxiety has found me back on this forum, wish we could know already...here's hoping we all get in :)

(58,62,63 - 92%)

edwa1414 I know I can't wait to find out. Am I right in thinking that an overall score of 'x' has a higher percentile this year?? Just trying to figure out if perhaps when they say 180 is competitive, this year it may be a bit lower?? So much speculation, but I know there's nothing we can do but wait!

Hey all, I have applied as a non-standard too, UMAT 65 / 85 / 54, 99th%, overall score 204. Is anyone also applying for an MRBS or other UTas scholarships (I am considering as I can't get Austudy due to having a PhD)?

Hey isaachose, I have no idea about that 180 score thing...was the percentile for 180 considerably lower last year?

Hey lucyg I wasn't aware that having a PhD would mean you were ineligible for Austudy, that's a shame! My plan is to get youthallowance until I'm 25 (late next year) and then transfer to Austudy (hopefully). Do you think I'll be eligible for Austudy given I've completed an undergraduate degree and am 6 months into a PhD (which I will be quitting if I start med)? I can't find any information regarding this on the Austudy website, although I found this statement on the youthallowance page:

"If previous study was successfully completed, no Activity Agreement is required for additional courses at the same level. There is no limit on the number of courses you can undertake at the same level, as long as you successfully complete your previous courses."

hmmmm. I've been trying to call them but the wait time is currently "more than 90 minutes" haha.

Actually, I was looking at 2012 - I think this year and last year's curves are pretty similar. People were getting in with 76 percentile this year but then other people say 86 was the lowest. From looking at about 5 years of curves, it looks like this year a 180 was only slightly higher percentile. So that's a good thing I suppose!

Lucyg - you're almost guaranteed entry, must feel good!?

Hey isaachose, I always worry about the worst case scenario of not getting in, but yes - I realise I am in a better position than most and should be grateful for that. My issue is the financial one (whether to apply for MRBS...).

What other scholarships do they have? (UTas)...I haven't looked at that as I figured I wouldn't be competitive. I have heard a few horror stories about MRBS though...and some good ones, depending on whether you're up for living rurally (for 6 consecutive years)!! You would also pretty much definitely get an interview for UNE/UNCLE and UWS...do they have other scholarships?

UTas have lots of other scholarships, but none that are enough to live off. There is one that pays your HECS fees though which would be pretty awesome! UWS and UNCLE are the same (and yes, I have applied for those unis too).

I reckon it is always worth looking at the scholarships on offer - they are not all for those with the highest marks. Many are for students who have lived / gone to school in a particular location, or have experienced financial or other hardship.

Hey guys, I know that your umat score needs to be about the same as the lowest UMAT score of the previous year, but does anyone know what that would range around? Secondly, they look at a distinction average of (70%), I'm studying Physio at CSU Orange NSW and a D average is 75, which is a GPA of 6.. A 70% average amounted to about a GPA of 4.9 where I am.. Do you guys convert a D average of 70% to a GPA? Also, ater three sems of study or more, do they still look account for your ATAR? Or do they just look at it as a part of protocol reasons? My GPA is about 6.25 so far this sem, and plan to go on to next year for the umat..GPA wise please tell me my chances if you know! :)

Thanks!

Does anyone know when offers will be start being released from UTAS? The website says late October, but I note last year they didn't seem to come out until November?
Thanks :)

Hey! Sorry about the late reply - we're less than one week away from exams and things are getting hectic.
Okay, so it depends on what category you are in.
For tasmanian school leavers the UMAT score asked for was quite low (some low 50 percentile).
For non-standard interstate students the lowest percentile I know of in my year was i think 71 but that person had a very high section 2 apparently.
The distinction average that utas applies is 70% so as long as you are over that your uni's interpretation of a distinction doesn't matter.
I think after you start a degree they ask that your ATAR is at least above 90 (MBBS Frequently Asked Questions - Medicine and Paramedicine - University of Tasmania, Australia)

Hey Neens

Generally speaking, first round offers come out in the first or second week of December and second round offers in the second week of January. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Bide your time Neens, its hard not to get obsessed but fretting will not achieve anything other than increased blood pressure and insomnia. :)

Hi guys,

I was just wondering how the WAM consideration works for non-standard applicants. I'm in my second year, and I remember reading that they take the previous 3 semesters of WAM into account, but now on the website it appears that it is only the most recent two semesters ie. semester 1 and 2 of my second year degree.

Can anyone confirm which one it is? I'm just confused right now.

I haven't... I have been in contact with Anthony at the Medical Office, and he has said that there has been delays with getting offers out as they have a new computer system for offers this year, and they cannot foresee when offers will come out... So frustrating!
