[Undergrad] UTAS Entry 2015 - non-standard

Status
Not open for further replies.
Yeah looking at previous years' threads people were getting offers in late November some years. 6th December lots of non-standards got offers last year...but this new computer system they've got to distribute offers is playing up or something...that's why it'll be around 17th with Tassie standards.

I think it's still possible they'll come out earlier if they get the system fixed but I wouldn't bet on it.

Are there really only 20-30 places for interstate non-standards, with no flexibility? That is extremely depressing if so.

Then again we really have no idea what criteria they are actually looking at. Officially it is just UMAT and everything else is a threshold, but my new favourite theory/delusion (as somebody with a borderline UMAT) goes like this: If all they are doing is checking ATAR/GPA against a threshold, and then allocating places based purely on UMAT results..... why does it take so long?

I choose to believe they are assessing each application as a whole, not just the UMAT numbers. Yes I am probably just deluding myself in order to keep clutching a thin thread of hope....

A If all they are doing is checking ATAR/GPA against a threshold, and then allocating places based purely on UMAT results..... why does it take so long?

Possibly because they need to wait for non-standards who are currently studying's semester 2 results to come out?

Because Reasons I was hoping the same thing. But - what else could they possibly look at? Did I miss something in the application? All they've got is GPA, UMAT and I suppose what other education you've completed...anything else? ATAR is irrelevant for non-standards who've done more than 1st year uni...

I think the only thing that's a bit different with UTAS is the whole 'unknown' focus on section 2...?

Well UTAS themselves only released results on the 28th, so that may have something to do with it. For some reason I was also under the impression that selection was mostly automated and them checked over. Not sure where I heard that though.

Wow you guys are really popping my bubble here! FINE I admit it they are just crunching the numbers and I have no chance! JEEZ :p

@isaachose No you didn't miss anything in the application, it's just that old codgers like me have various other qualifications/certifications to include in our application(s). Hence the desperate hope that that stuff is given some weight... Off topic, I think we may have met at a recent interview, if so nice to meet you and hope to see you next year :)

Because Reasons Nope no interviews for me this year! Wait up...I hope you mean for other Unis you can include other stuff...Not that I have much, but I've got a Bachelor of biomed and Master Int. Public Health plus lots of volunteering which would have been nice to talk about. But figured that was only JCU/UNSW. Both of which I missed out on!

And maybe we have similar borderline scores? I'm at 87% with 69 S2 (my saving grace...I hope!). Either way, ain't much we can do but speculate and wait! Offers went down to 71st% last year....and as far as I can see early 80s the year before...

isaachose sorry, must have been someone else lurking on this thread, best of luck to you anyway!

Not that you have much?? More than most by the looks of it, and your UMAT is slightly above mine both overall and for S2, damn you haha. I'm shocked you didn't get any interviews if you have a decent GPA...

The UTAS application portal had a 'post-secondary' option where I assume you uploaded proof of your Biomed & Public Health.

Offers went down to 71%st last year for non-standard interstates??

Because Reasons Yeah it's quite frustrating...UNE/UNCLE didn't have high enough S1, and UWS don't know. JCU I kind of assume the non-standards who get in have absolutely amazing portfolios, hence my comment about not having much!

And I just checked the UTAS application - no proof needed if it was in Australia. Phew.

And yeah as far as I can tell from previous threads/comments! Definitely saw someone in this thread - https://www.medstudentsonline.com.au/f119/utas-2014-a-28480/index10.html with 73rd or thereabouts.

Who knows, could have been an easy year...

Hey, to someone's question a page or so ago, apparently they do have to double check each application individually, which does make it take a bit longer. I think they should be out at the same time as the local standard offers, if not before, so the 17th of December...

Hi guys!

Did anyone else receive the email from Utas stating that interstaters would be getting their offers in january?
How come we are assuming that it comes out at the same time as local standard offers?? (i would love it if they did come at that earlier time though)

Thank you!

Neens , do you know what the aim of individual checking would be? i hope its so that borderline or utas people are given a chance?

Lalli , yes i got that it says "For mature age applicants offers will be progressively issued from November 2014 to February 2015.For school leavers offers will be made to Tasmanian applicants on the 17th December with all interstate applicants to recieve their offers in January."

Slightly strange wording in that email but they meant to say all mature age (non-standard) would be given nov-feb with tassie standards 17 dec and interstate standards in January - I have confirmed this with Utas when I called the other day.

jsth I don't know I am sorry - it could be as you said, or just to ensure there are no mistakes with who they give offers to or anything.

Hello, does anyone know whether they will send us an email to notify us if we didn't get an offer in the first round?

Pretty sure I remember reading that people last year were getting emails saying they were either: offered a place, out of the running, or still in the running...

Also once first round goes out I think they are happy to answer more questions about your application over the phone...in saying that I wouldn't want to bug them about it.
