'What papers should I do at UoO for graduate entry' Chat, Enquiries and Help

I literally crammed Micr337 in like a week since they give you like 9 possible essay questions in the beginning of the year and you just have to write perfect essays for like 8 where 6 are asked in pairs for the final exam and you write about 3 of them. I stupidly only wrote essays for 7 and got unlucky that the 2 essays I didn't prep an essay for were paired together. If you just write perfect essays for 8 unlike me, you should get an A+ on the paper.

Micr334 was probably the most fun Micr300 level paper I did. Apart from the first module, the other modules were really fun to learn for + they incorporate very well with the labs that you don't need to study extra content since they link very well together.
Hello by any chance do you still have these MICR337 essays at your disposal?

Has anyone done RELS 203 for their pre-Christmas paper? If so, could I get some overview of it? It seemed pretty chill with a 70% MCQ test and only one essay so I was planning to take it this year :)

Has anyone done either the FINC204 summer school paper or the TOUR214 summer school paper? I'm tossing up between which one would be the 'easier' paper in combination with BIOA201 for summer school 2021

I haven't but would recommend taking Forb201 if you haven't already. Probably one of the most fun papers I took and it was easier than Bioa201 imho.

Hi everyone!
I'm going into 3rd year next year, doing an Anatomy major and am currently tossing up my papers for next year. I'm definitely going to do ANAT331, ANAT332, ANAT335 and BIOA301 but am not sure what do do for my other papers. My degree has an English minor at the moment, so if I keep it in, I'd do ENGL332, ENGL353 and ENGL327 but am unsure. I'm also considering doing PHSL231, ZOOL313 and ZOOL314. Has anyone done any of the papers and has any advice?
Thanks!!

Hey team, hope everyone is doing well. Im thinking of doing 2 papers for summer school, Im for sure doing FORB201, but im not sure what other paper I should take. I was thinking of doing BIOA201 in first sem next year instead of summer school. Anyone have any recommendations for 200 level summer school papers?

my friends enjoyed PHSL231 :)

Hey, anyone got any info or know anything about RELS214 and RELS237? I want to do summer school from a distance so I am looking at doing these papers - would appreciate any insight! :)

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if any has done a bachelor of science majoring in anatomy? and what papers did you select and your thoughts about those papers?

Consider doing a BBiomed in functional human biology - gives you a wider range of options for papers, especially at the 300-level :)

Hi everyone, im doing a biochemistry major and was wondering if anyone had any advice/insight for the 200 level papers (BIOC 221, 222, 223). Cheers.

Hey! I just finished my double major in Anatomy and Physiology. Highly recommend PHSL231! probably the easiest of the 200-level physiology papers :) If you have done MAOR102 - then i also recommend MAOR202! MAOR202 was by far the easiest paper ive taken and an easy A+.

ANAT331 - fantastic paper. if you put in the work you'll definitely get a good mark
ANAT332 - was also a good paper, the lecturers are really nice and the material is pretty straight forward
ANAT335 was a huge workload. Luckily it will be reduced from 5 module to 4 modules for 2021 :) so hopefully that will make a massive difference.
BIOA301 - great paper. Same as 331, if you put in the work you can definitely get the marks needed :)

How important are the recommended papers: ANAT241 and BIOC221 if I want to take PATH201 under my Functional Human Biology major for biomed?

I would take ANAT241 however I'm not too keen on taking BIOC221.

Personally, you don't NEED to take these papers in order to take/do well in PATH201. I didn't take BIOC221 and managed PATH201 fine - I didn't feel like I was missing anything tbh. I took ANAT241 and, although there were things that were mentioned in ANAT (i.e. different types of cells), I know people who didn't take ANAT241 and still managed to get A+. If anything, taking these papers would just allow you to have a little bit of a better understanding of the terminology used in PATH but other than that, I really don't see too much of an advantage. Also, if you understood most of what was happening in the HUBS and CELS papers, you're probably in a really good position for doing well and understanding PATH :)

PATH itself already runs through the "normal" anatomy/state of the human body and the systems BEFORE teaching you what's wrong with it. It's really content heavy but they do teach you everything you need (and most of the time, more lol) in the lectures. If you don't want to take BIOC221, you'll be alright :) if you feel like you're falling behind or not understanding anything, you can always have a quick look at textbooks online!

Hope this helps a little bit, but dm me if you need any more details! Happy to help!

I would agree with above - didn’t take BIOC221 and didn’t feel disadvantaged for PATH201 at all. At 300 level however there were a few things that went straight over my head and I skipped those sections in the exam :P
On a side note ANAT241 is probably the most widely relevant paper I took in my undergrad, content overlapped with many papers so I was really glad to have done it :)

Agree with both these two, managed to do well in PATH201 with no BIOC221, but I did feel that ANAT241 was helpful. Another thing I would recommend is to use the Robins Pathology textbook, explains a lot of things really nicely that I found confusing in the lectures!

Hi! I'm having trouble understanding the weighted GPA system for grad entry into med. Scrolling through this forum I see that most people are taking 8 200-level papers in their 2nd year. As there are 360 points allocated for 100 and 200-level papers this means you should have done 20 papers. I have done 8 100-level papers last year and planning on doing 8 200-level papers this year, do the other 4 papers come from summer school?

Hi there. So there’s actually 240 points allocated for 100 and 200-level papers. They take up to the best 120 points in 300-level then fill the rest up with the best 100 and 200-level papers.

With the new weighted GPA system, people usually take as much 200-papers as they can in order to replace the 100-papers. As to where these extra 200-papers come from really depends on the person. These can be through summer school, pre-Christmas summer school, and/or throughout 3rd year alongside 300-papers.

If you look through the past pages of this thread, you should see some examples of what people have done. Personally, I did 7 200-level papers 2nd year, 2 in 3rd year summer school, and 1 during my 3rd year = totalling up to 10 200-level papers. Theoretically, I didn’t take as much as I could to maximise my chances but didn’t really mind. Some people took as much as they could though (>10 200-level papers) and worked out very well!
