JPM WSU/CSU JPM: Interview Invite Discussion

Hey Guys,

On the applicant video guide it mentions 2 minutes reading time and 8 minutes time before rotated to the next station.

What I wanted to understand was that 2 minutes reading + 8 minutes answering or was it 2 minutes reading 6 minutes answering (8 in total)

sorry I know this is a really silly question.

Cheers
2 minutes + 8 minutes for 10 minutes total.

Just realized that there are two days left so submit the MAQ questionaire for WSU interviews. I need to submit a GWS community I identify with, despite being locked down for half the year, and having most of my activities take place outside the GWS region. Does anyone have any advice? There is one group activity I do regularly in the GWS region, but I've only been doing it since October, and it's a pretty niche community and unusual activity. Because I've only been doing it for ~1.5 months I'm not sure if I can honestly say I "identify" with the community yet. 🤔

Do we just use the last 7 digits of our UCAT ID for booking the WSU interviews?

Also: i havnt gotten any confirmation email or anything; honestly looks like a toddler made this booking system lol

Yes, it's the last 7 digits (even though the UCAT ID is an 8 digit number)

Btw did anyone else have a problem with the booking system this morning?
It kept saying my UCAT ID was 'invalid' so I rang the help number (had to wait for a while because of large volumes of calls - I'm assuming other MD applicants who had the same issue), then got redirected to tech support and they kept me on hold but I refreshed the page for the 100th time and finally it accepted my ID
Was able to finally get into the booking system at 10:18am

Same I haven't gotten a confirmation email either, I thought it'd be sent out straight after you book

Happened to me too, WSU is really slacking with this.

So, with 12 sessions (1.5 hours duration each session) across the 3 days, with 32 places per session, that's 384 candidates being interviewed.

Does anyone know the stats on how many places (domestic : international) WSU offers? Thanks.

From memory, used to be 110 total domestic (standard, rural, and GWS). I’m actually not sure if that dropped with the start of CSU. I have a feeling that it did slightly.

I’m also interested in anyone’s thoughts on this question, since I’m in a similar predicament. (HSC student here so I don’t have a ton of experience but) At the moment I guess I’m focusing more on smaller indirect interactions, but playing up the emotional value of them: letters sent between neighbours to welcome new people, or helping out with lost pet searches and the like. Not sure if this sort of stuff is hard enough evidence, since the last solid community work I did was volunteering at a local library a few years back, before COVID. Do people have other suggestions or opinions on whether this might look generic or shallow to an interviewer? A tad worried since rural students are competing against each other, and other applicants are likely have overwhelmingly more involvement.

I really don't think many people have gotten the opportunity to participate or 'intermingle' and have experiences with their communities, either way if you've gotten an interview I don't think you're response in a handful of questions would be massively detrimental or beneficial, it might just help interviewers tailor their questions just slightly, as they would for the UNSW interviews I assume.

From what I saw there weren't 12 sessions on the last day, I thought there was only 2 or 3? Also, I thought the number of WSU interviews were much lower usually, around the 2-300 mark. Maybe they've created more places then actual interviewees just to try and be more accommodating with time? Or they could've just increased numbers this year.

Would it be too informal / unrelated to medicine to talk about the community of supporters for a sports team?

12 sessions across the 3 days.

I double checked:

5 sessions Wed 1/12 [9-10.30/10.30-12/11.50-12/1.30-3/2.50-4.20]
5 sessions Thurs 2/12 [times as above]
2 sessions Fri 3/12 [9-10.30/10.30-12]
= 12 sessions in total

Also confirmed - 32 places/session 🤷‍♂️

I suppose this^ was meant to read [9-10.30/10.30-11.50/11.50-1.20/1.30-2.50/2.50-4.20] ?

Btw MedDeans data show 2021 WSU/CSU intakes 105 + 43 domestics, 32 + 0 internationals.

Oops! Was supposed to be: [9-10.30/10.30-12/11.50-1.20*/1.30-3/2.50-4.20]

The other times are actually as has been listed. 🤷‍♂️
Each session appears to run for 90 mins.

Thanks for the domestics : internationals data.

A1 adds: Yeah I was a little curious about the 10min overlaps at 12.00/11.50 and 3.00/2.50, but not for the other sessions.

Let us pray that WSU has in fact decided to triple their cohort size and guarantee every interviewee a full scholarship to their MD program.
