JPM WSU/CSU JPM: Interview Invite Discussion

I had a similar score to this but I received an interview. I also don't qualify for any bonuses. What was your score according to the formula if you don't mind me asking? I'm just wondering if maybe your other sections brought you down or if the formula that was derived on this forum is potentially incorrect.
Yo just calculated my WSU score it was 745.8 what was yours?

Yes, we saw this last year with someone who had 86th%ile but huge VR score. The overall %ile isn’t enough to gauge an individual’s competitiveness for JPM.
Oh wow! Is there a particular reason why they favour VR so much? Cuz I don't think other unis value UCAT sections differently (other than the pretty much useless SJT section :p )

They’ve never disclosed this but it also fits with how they weighted UMAT so isn’t new for them.

748.6. According to the MSO formula, I should've gotten an invite but maybe everyone's scores were just more competitive this year?
How did MSO get their hands on the formula? Or was it based off estimates?

i think we had a 750.2 get a top-up interview invite this year so you've just barely missed it :(

And as the applicant in question I was very grateful they did it. :)

From memory the WSU switch to maximising VR came at the same time as JMP deciding to stop maximising the UMAT VR equivalent? The obvious outcome is a slightly more diverse WSU candidate pool, especially as the traditional UCAT candidate sems to score better in QR/AR. Anecdotally it also skews interview offers towards non-standards, who tend to do better in the VR section.

The downside obviously is that people who scored amazing overall UCATs can miss out on WSU if their VR is low, and also miss out on the other Sydney-based unis given other non-UCAT criteria (eg. the UNSW Atar/UCAT equation). The JMP switch back to an unweighted UCAT score balances this a little, but Newcastle is a challenging commute for most Sydney people so there's fewer easy options for those that arent willing to move homes.

Anyway, good luck to everyone who applied and commiserations for those that missed out due to weighting. Hope January's UAC rounds bring good news for this or any other applications.

Look I might have it all wrong but I browsed the 'Bored of Studies' forum a couple of minutes ago & there is a member there who said that he/she has received an offer from WSU (Doctor of Medicine) under 'Medicine: UNSW vs WSU' latest posts. Member details include HSC 2020.
Have offers been made to rural students already?

I don’t see how that’s possible, on the website it clearly states that first round offers are in Jan [MedStudentsOnline.com.au] WSU/CSU JPM: Interview Invite Discussion

The person on BoS was an international applicant. Their history says they did primary school in Hong Kong, sat the ISAT, and references how they will pay $400k for the degree.

Hey Guys,

On the applicant video guide it mentions 2 minutes reading time and 8 minutes time before rotated to the next station.

What I wanted to understand was that 2 minutes reading + 8 minutes answering or was it 2 minutes reading 6 minutes answering (8 in total)

sorry I know this is a really silly question.

Cheers

The MSO formula was empirical from what I can tell, just they had enough data to be able to estimate a good enough formula. There were rumours about SJT being used this year by WSU though, so it may have to change in reflection of that.
