JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

I’d imagine so given they’ve obviously chosen this method as being reflective of what they want. But we don’t know this for sure and it’s unlikely we ever will given they’re not particularly transparent. It’s therefore something interesting to think about but not to get too tied up in because a confirmatory answer is highly unlikely…
Yeah true no one knows for sure, thank you for your reply! 👍

does anyone know whether the VR 90th percentile increased from 680 last year? Is WSU still favoring a high vr, for example you got a 85th percentile overall but have a 680+ VR and a wsu avg of 710+ (as a gws applicant), any ideas? Or is it more on the basis of final percentile

Has anyone ever thought of creating a formula with only 3 subsections. The rejection email in the past 2 years has mentioned "When deriving the UCAT threshold the three sections of the UCAT are not weighted the same; meaning the threshold is not derived from the total score or percentile."

Maybe its VR + lowest 2 sections or highest 2 sections.

whilst its possible, the wording makes it seem to me like its an artefact from umat days

My comments on the WSU invites posted on MSO so far.

- We have seen three NSW non-GWS posts of interest
95%ile 840VR 812 weighted - Yes | 95%ile 810VR 787 weighted - Yes | 96%ile 750VR 777 weighted - No invite.

This reconfirms the heavy VR weight which helps the two 95%iles. And last year 760 cutoff has risen to 780ish.

- Also three GWS posts of interest
95%ile 660VR 723 weighted - No | 93%ile 680VR 734 weighted - No | 96%ile 660VR 732 weighted - Yes

Looks like last year 710 cutoff has risen to 730ish. The fact 734 No versus 732 Yes is due to the MSO formula only good enough for a rough guide. Without knowing WSU's exact formula it can't pinpoint to a few marks precision.

Hopefully the near-misses will get a top-up invite if there are vacant slots available after close of interview booking. Best of luck everyone.

Hey, I'm a score of interest again but this time I actually got an interview

I think I would be a score of interest as well since I received a 778.8 weighted non-gws NSW and did receive an interview, indicating the MSO formula might need some tweaking.
For non-gws NSW we currently have 777 No and your 779 Yes so the MSO formula still holds. At least we've got a good estimate the cutoff is somewhere high 770s.

One discrepancy is the GWS 732 Yes vs 734 No. If we get more posts around these marks to work with I'll look into tweaking it.
(One problem I have had in the past was if I tweak to make 732vs734 comply it could turn the 777vs779 into non-complying. I can't fully unlock JPM's secrets).

My weighted score according to the MSO formula is 798, and I’m from GWS, but I didn’t get an interview invite.

My overall score was 3160 (with a VR of 810)

What’s your SJT (if you don’t mind me asking) - I’m non-GWS formula score of approximately 783 with VR 810 and also haven’t received an invite. I have noted that most of the interview offers so far all have highish SJT whilst mine is only 530. Wondering if this potentially has something to do with it….

It was 629 (which is pretty decent i think)

I heard that WSU is releasing interview invites yesterday and today, so hopefully we get one today

This might be of interest I am GWS wsu score 725/640vr with a total of 3190 and I got an invite (i will put up all my invites once hsc is over)

Hi all,

My UCAT was 3370, I'm GWS and my VR was 810. My predicted weighted formula is >800 and I haven't yet received an invite. I can't imagine that my scores are under the cut-off (not trying to be arrogant, they just seem well above any potential cut-off), so I hope more interviews might be coming out today.

Good luck all.

My SJT was decent (701) and my weighted score on the MSO formula is definitely above the GWO cut-off but I haven't received an invite yet, so hopefully they are just releasing them in batches and we will get one soon.

Wow that’s crazy!!

Did you receive an interview invite from WSU today ?

I’m from GWS, but I didn’t get an interview invite.

I think you should really call WSU to check.

Note: DON'T say anything about VR weight & your 810VR as likely they will pin on you not knowing their weightings to shoo you away.

DO say to them you're GWS, your UCAT 4 sections are evenly balanced at ~790 (ie. doesn't matter which way WSU weights them) and applicants with significantly lower scores have received invites. See what they say.

(Btw even if WSU didn't recognise your GWS your scores should be good for non-gws NSW).

I just messaged the WSU chat and they have confirmed that all interviews have been issued.

I'm GWS and got 3200 (800 VR) and didn't get an interview. They've advised me to email the admissions team for further detail.

Hi all,

I spoke with admissions today with my scores (3370, VR 810, formula>800). They confirmed that I was meant to receive an invite and it was an issue with email communications. They are rectifying this and resending.

While I suspect it might only impact a very small minority of people, if you are certain your scores are above those of others who have received an invite from within your comparative cohort (WSU/non-WSU/interstate, etc.), I would encourage you to make contact with the phone number on the site. They mentioned it is a rare outcome, so if your scores are borderline or look like they are below others who were invited, I wouldn't advocate unnecessary contact, but if you genuinely believe you should have received an invite it is worth asking.

Wow that’s crazy!!

Did you receive an interview invite from WSU today ?
Not yet, but they have confirmed my lack of invite was due to email communication issues (the invitation was barred by their system for some reason) and are arranging to resend it. Your scores are quite similar to mine so I would suggest you should talk to them directly to clarify your situation too.
