JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

I have collated these non-rural non-GWS *NSW* scores for comparison. They show WSU still have VR weighted more heavily
1) 790 730 880 720 - 3120 Yes
2) 820 810 780 690 - 3100 Yes
vs
3) 670 840 860 860 - 3230 No
4) 670 770 900 870 - 3210 No

We can see (1)&(2) are ~110 overall marks lower but got an invite thanks to their high VRs. I have similarly compared other Yes/No combos which indicate DM & QR got to be included in WSU's mentioned 3 sections. Only AR can be excluded to make sense, see above excluding AR helps (1)&(2) while penalises (3)&(4).

One formula that would fit the posted scores we have is [50%VR + 20%DM + 30%QR] as shown below
820 810 780 690 - 3100 (806.0) Yes
790 730 880 720 - 3120 (805.0) Yes
760 750 870 740 - 3120 (791.0) Yes
700 790 870 870 - 3230 (769.0) Yes
740 680 860 870 - 3150 (764.0) Yes
vs
670 840 860 860 - 3230 (761.0) No
670 770 900 870 - 3210 (759.0) No
720 660 880 870 - 3130 (756.0) No
790 740 670 770 - 2970 (744.0) No

This formula also works for GWS except Abdullahafizz's scores, however his 92%ile not getting Adel Dent invite makes me think there's something strange with the scores the schools received for him.

So I am interstate and my scores were Vr:740 DM:790 QR:900 AR:730 and using the 58/12/12/18 method I got a score of 763.4 but I got an email saying I did not meet the UCAT threshhold. Does anyone have any estimates of how much the cutoff was for interstate.
Interstate as well and my score was 782.8 (VR 790, DM 730, QR 880, AR 730) but was rejected too, so cutoff's higher than that at least I guess.

Hi guys, do we know if the increased interstate cutoff was only thing last year (and possibly will be this year)? Or has it always been around for WSU?

Just a little question LMG! I was wondering why we weren't using the new WSU scaled score weighting outlined in:

?

Looking at the posts here so far, it looks like the new one fitted better to this year's data since the scaled scores in post #77 got an interview while I got a higher 'old' scaled score and didn't.

I have nothing to do with formula calculations. See: 2023 Entry Interview Invites DATA COLLECTION

Did not receive WSU interview, posting for data:

University:
WSU
Course and preference in relevant TAC: WSU Med 1st pref
UCAT percentile rank: 99th
VR: 760
DM: 870
QR: 880
AR: 890
Total:
3400
SJT: 638
JPM/WSU formula (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 811
Predicted/Actual ATAR/GPA: 9.0
Rural: No
State: NZ
Other Special Considerations: None
Have you checked in your UAC application for any "error" messages (like uploading NZ uni transcript for example?).

Otherwise I don't see how your 760/870/880/890 UCAT would miss the interview cutoff, unless WSU now weights VR even more than the already absurd 58%.

He should check if he has received a rejection letter as well. if he has both no rejection or acceptance letter, then he probably should call them.
(If rejected, then VR weighting would almost be very, very insane)

I doubt VR weighting is very insane, there are people who have gotten interviews (albeit GWS) with 600 VR and an old formula of 709, and also me a GWS with a VR of 630. So potentially it's one of the other sections that are much more weighted or maybe there is just a huge domestic in-state preference over interstate people. Who knows lol

If I had to guess AR probably got weighted more heavily since we both had high 800s. I feel like there was a lot of domestic bias but surely they can find someone from GWS with a better VR score than my 600.

Lowkey been constantly refreshing my emails in case my interview offer was an error but still safe for now.

If you were referring to Verdandi's UCAT, thing is the other 3 sections are 870/880/890. If any of these were weighted higher it would add even more advantage to Verdandi.

Did WSU change the formula or is VR still heavily favoured?
I'm no longer keen to check at a detail level. In general it appears VR is still heavily weighted based on these posted GWS invites (2023 intake) :

VR 760 - 87%ile | 720 - 91%ile | 640 - 95%ile | 600 - 97%ile

The trend shows lower VRs need disproportionately more from the other three sections (i.e. significantly higher %ile), to compensate for the more weight in VR.

A combo of low VR & low 90ish %ile would prove this theory wrong, but I haven't seen one yet.

Does anyone k the ucat percentile for a non-rural applicant for csu, cant seem to find any data?
If there are any non-rural interviewees at CSU the invite cutoff would be the same as for WSU (since technically you apply to JPM, not which of the two schools).

Considering the quota implies only 8-10 non-rural spots at CSU, they might interview all non-rurals at WSU then allocate the CSU spots afterwards.

Hello, was wondering if anyone had an answer to my queries :)

To get an interview invite at WSU, we obviously know that they weigh different sections ( ~ 0.58 VR + 0.12 DM + 0.12 QR + 0.18 AR) rather than using the total UCAT score.

Then to get a final offer it's 75% interview and 25% UCAT. For that 25% UCAT, is it likely they still look at the weighted score using the WSU formula to determine our rank? So, still heavily weighted towards VR?

I’d imagine so given they’ve obviously chosen this method as being reflective of what they want. But we don’t know this for sure and it’s unlikely we ever will given they’re not particularly transparent. It’s therefore something interesting to think about but not to get too tied up in because a confirmatory answer is highly unlikely…
