JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

Honestly, this tracks with my non-GWS score. I did decently in all sections except for my QR which was pretty shitty (790, 740, 670, 770 - 2970 (766)), hovering between the 50th and 60th percentile. But someone else who's non-GWS got an invite with a lower WSU formula, but their scores were all decently high percentiles and their overall UCAT score was much higher (700, 790, 870, 870 - 3230 (761)).
I thought so too but that doesn't explain why one person with a 2890 total, 690 AR score received an invite but another person who received a 3010 total, 690 invite didn't

Yeah, I have no answer for that. I suspect that we have a combination of some amount of formula change, cutoffs and WSU using a very opaque admissions process to cover up their own errors.

Honestly? Who even knows!!

Rural WSU: 44th%ile, 2470, old formula: 584.4 (RA2, NSW)

Does any1 know why i mightn't have gotten a interview... i am a RA2 Queensland resident and got a percentile of 48...

Interstate cutoff for rural was higher, its cause hey have an in state quote for interviews this year, 20% interstate and 80% intrastate

Regardless of the quotas mentioned earlier, straight percentile comparisons have long been irrelevant for WSU and then for JPM. Your 48th means nothing as it can’t be compared on the metrics we estimate JPM uses.

It doesn’t make sense why they’d do it for rural aswell. No other state has a quota for its own rurals it’s so weird
Im fairly sure it was confirmed that NSW rural have a lower cut-off than interstate rural when it comes to interview invites for JPM this year

So I am interstate and my scores were Vr:740 DM:790 QR:900 AR:730 and using the 58/12/12/18 method I got a score of 763.4 but I got an email saying I did not meet the UCAT threshhold. Does anyone have any estimates of how much the cutoff was for interstate.

Ok, so I got a rejection email. Just gonna quote this bit:

"Each Australian Medical School may use UCAT scores in a different way. When deriving the UCAT threshold the three sections of the UCAT are not weighted the same; meaning the threshold is not derived from the total score or percentile."

Three sections? Like, is this a typo, or did they just decide to ignore a whole section?

Historically, there was a period where WSU largely (though not completely) ignored section 3 of UMAT, so I guess it’s possible…
Ok, so I guess I'm gonna retry looking at formulas leaving DM out entirely and see if that gives me results that make sense?

Leaving out the weightings for now & compare these sets of GWS scores
1) 740 730 730 690 - 2890 Yes
2) 710 750 860 690 - 3010 No invite
This^ proves conclusively VR is not ignored, since no weightings can possibly make (1) higher than (2) on the non-VR sections.

Now comparing
3) 740 730 730 690 - 2890 (728.6) Yes
versus
4) 710 750 860 690 - 3010 (729.2) No
5) 720 630 800 750 - 2900 (724.2) No
The best candidate for ignore is QR since it'd penalise the two Nos the most

But if QR is ignored it won't explain why
6) 700 680 880 720 - 2980 (722.8) Yes
versus
7) 710 750 860 690 - 3010 (729.2) No
8) 720 630 800 750 - 2900 (724.2) No

I concede defeat, WSU has got too clever for me 😂

That’s really strange that it was meant to be the final day and yet I don’t have anything 🤦‍♀️ Thank you for the info!
Nil CSU correspondence from what I can tell from the forums ; I was personally told by CSU Admissions last week that today was “the be-all and end-all“ so to speak in terms of correspondence for top-up offers and rejections so really unsure if it was an oversight on their part or you’re part of the fortunate few which may be in still with a chance - they did state last week however that they were still working through the applications so don’t lose hope just yet ☺️✊🏼

Conceding defeat would only be appropriate if the game being played was a fair one. WSU seems to move the goalposts and repaint the outlines for pretty much every person lol, no one knows how they are doing it, including them. Its really infuriating because people dont get a feeling of closure as to why they might have missed out. It just looks like sheer dumb luck. Considering the implications it can have on a persons mental health, because of the immense competitiveness of entry in Australia, what they continue to do is just absurd. WSU should really have a more transparent system. What a bunch of loonies.

I can very much assure you that they're not ignoring QR based on personal experience 😭 Like, I think someone used my score to suggest that percentile cutoffs were in place.

100% agreed. We need to find a way to convince WSU be transparent with UCAT cutoffs.

Like, I think someone used my score to suggest that percentile cutoffs were in place.
I don't think so since as shown above a GWS 2890 got an invite yet 2900 & 3010 didn't.

It looks like my amended formula [55%VR + 5%DM + 10%QR + 30%AR] could be close. Or if WSU ignores DM then distribute the DM 5% to one of the other sections, I will try work it out later tonight.
