JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

Interesting new thing to the interview (MAQ)
MEDICAL ADMISSION QUESTIONNAIRE (MAQ)

To complete your interview booking, you must provide two brief statements at the online form Medical Admission Questions (MAQ). Your statements will be used to inform the interview questions...

...Failure to provide statements will result in limited interview time being used to provide statements, instead of being used by candidates to demonstrate their strengths.”

AND

This is the first year that the UCAT-ANZ has been used to select medical students in Australia and New Zealand. Researchers from New South Wales and Victorian medical schools are working together to understand how any changes affect applicants, and to evaluate a new interview question. When you attend the interview, you will be offered an opportunity to take part in this research by completing brief questionnaires after the interview. This is voluntary; questionnaire answers are anonymous and have NO impact on whether you are offered a place in these medicine programs.”

I was wondering if/when someone was going to mention this, I wasn't sure if it was new this year. It'll be interesting to see how they're 'used to inform interview questions'...

A1 does the 86th%ile candidate still fit with your theorising?

After a good deal of trial/error I found a formula that would fit the non-GWS situation. It's 60%VR + 10%DM + 15%QR + 15%AR
Here's the tabulation:

HOWEVER this formula would not work for GWS as shown by this pair
EtA for correction : Sorry there was a misread of a GWS score. After removing it the proposed formula holds true for GWS scores too.

The spreadsheet is attached if someone wants to play with.

I also didn't receive an invite with a 96% (probably because my VR was alot lower than other sections)
VR: 590
DM:700
QR: 830
AR: 870
SJT:701
TOTAL: 2990
also GWS

On the 2020 collated data page I noticed that the lowest reported UCAT to gain an interview offer from WSU was 2540 (general entry). My friend got 2780 and did not get an offer. Does this mean that WSU is definitely weighing certain sections more than others?

Also when I called JMP they said that interviews would be decided based of the total score of the 4 subtests. Does this mean that JMP will not be weighing certain sections more than others?

Yes.

I think you've answered your own question here!

If you look at other people's scores, those with high total UCAT scores weren't able to secure an invite because of their VR scores. I recommend looking at A1's predictions for WSU's weightings.

Yes, JMP will equally weigh each section.

More information from a PM:

"No offer: UCAT percentile 99: 620VR, 800DM, 870QR, 860AR. Non-GWS, non-rural. NSW student

I also have a few incomplete results:

A 3240 with 610VR who didn't get an offer
A 2830 with 810VR who did get an offer"

The lowest collated total so far from ‘General’ is 2780 with a VR of 830.

There are many UK universities that weigh VR heavily, Warwick being the most prominent, and Canadian medical schools tend to only look at one part of MCAT, being CARS, the comprehension section. WSU has obviously taken on a similar perspective

I know someone (non-GWS) with a ~2900 score and 630 VR but got an invite.

The formula 60%VR + 10%DM + 15%QR + 15%AR above would give this a total around 6900-7000, way below the No guys. Throw it into the table I guarantee no math formula will be possible.

Could this person be a Rural?

When I called the WSU admission team early last week they said that they are planing to send emails from Thursday to Monday. So, we know that no one got invites on Thursday but we still have Monday.
