Considering the UNSW Median is .6 I would say .75/.8+

This is really dependant on the stream that you are applying through if you look at UNSWs Medicine night the median ATAR for every stream is a good indicator of what an average-high ATAR looks like (considering this is median offer ATAR) however at a Stab 99.85+ is high for metro entry 99+ is high for rural entry.

Considering the UNSW Median is .6 I would say .75/.8+

Just checked, I think your right, Median was .8 on UAC so I would dare say .9 is high. But I think it's 0.8 due to EAS

SCATS/EAS definitely pushes the median up remember that its median rank for an offer so when compared to the interview cohort .8-.85 may have been high

Your initial was right. Median atar without adjustments is 99.65, so a 'high' would be .75/80 +, and just like Nonstandard has stated, this is for students who have gotten an offer. Against the interview pool, a .75/.80+ would be better than a majority of people.

Lowest last year was 99.50 including top up offers but lowest first round offer atar was 99.60

Strategically position the one you want most

On a more serious note no their really isnt as far as we are aware all invites for both WSU and UNSW are released on the 26th of January, meaning if you qualify for both you will only receive the one you have preference higher. You can arrange preferences between rounds and hope you get a top-up offer and get to chose between the two offers but the crux of it is just preference whatever offer you would prefer higher.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were to get your top preference (it happens to be bonded so you want to rearrange preferences for potential topups), you wouldn't be considered for any of the other unis for upcoming rounds because UAC can see that you got your first preference?

Nope, it’s an automated system so if you change your preferences, it thinks you got a lower one so will consider you for higher ones (assuming they’re participating in any of the subsequent UAC rounds).

There are certain exceptions to this for med worth keeping in mind, which are Flinders (SATAC) and Griffith (QTAC). If you get a preference above those two unis (say, UAdel first round), then change your mind and switch Flinders to first preference, you won't hear from them again. There could be more unis that do this, but they're the ones I experienced personally.

Beware: not the case for UNSW. If UNSW isn’t your top preference for first round offers and you were competitive for both a first round UNSW offer and a higher preference, then UNSW will not consider you again for future offer rounds.

yeah exactly that's what I read too. Can someone pls confirm if this is the case for other unis, assuming someone is competitive for both their first and second preference.

I received both WSU and JMP offers the year I applied however … the WSU (rural) offer, received first, was in a pre-Christmas early round that JMP did not participate in, and that rural round doesn’t exist anymore. The JMP offer was in the first Jan round. This was for 2018 entry and involved me switching preferences between the two.

Also, a friend received both JMP BMP UoN (first Jan round) and then WSU CSP (first Feb round) for 2017 entry after a preference switch between the two rounds.

Somewhat out of date, anecdotal evidence is all I have.

ETA: also, keep in mind, ATAR delays likely make these historical experiences even more unhelpful for 2022 entry…

Last year they both participated in the earlier (first) UAC round so that bit (both participating in the first initial round) won’t actually change, even though the date does. The key will be do they both participate in the first (or any) Feb round and if so, in what capacity? Or do they just do phone top ups? I can’t remember what last year looked like on that front, unfortunately. And the shortened timeframe between first round offers and the uni year starting might also cause them to switch things up. It’s impossible to predict, tbh

So I can do UNSW > JMP? And if I receive UNSW Wagga Wagga and now JMP Newcastle seems better... could I still be considered for JMP Newcastle in second round?

Yep, you would be considered. Likely to get that offer? Probably not, but its worth a shot i guess. In relation to offer rounds for JMP, i think this was posted as an email reply that someone got on MSO.

Preference rank has never before been a factor in determining interview eligibility for UNSW. It has just had to be there in your list somewhere. We’ve not heard anything to suggest this has changed for this year.

Yep dw there are high achievers (99.95 + 99 ucat) every year who put usyd first and unsw second, and they receive interview offers from both.
