Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

But.... what about 4. High ATAR + Lowish UCAT.....? C'mon A1, can't be skipping on this clear possibility 😉
Probably UNSW > JMP > JPM then. Though a Lowish UCAT for a rural student would have to be quite low

A1 adds: Yes I agree. Lowish UCAT affects JPM chance the most, high ATAR helps UNSW the most, so UNSW>JMP>JPM.

I think with a low UCAT, depends on VR score as well for WSU (as they seem to weight this significantly more than the other sections). From looking at interview invites, a competitive weighted score for non-rurals was around 780-790, but this may be possible with a <3000 score. However, this year, a <3000 score hasn't been given a JMP invite (all this is for non-rurals, btw).

So i emailed flinders about when offers for med will be made and they said:
"The main offer round will be on the 21st December 2021. Offers will be made in subsequent offer rounds as per the SATAC key dates here, if there are any remaining places in the course."
On the otherhand, U Adelaide have confirmed they are sending offers 14 Jan.

On SATAC, if Adelaide med is 1st preference, and flinders med 2nd, is it even possible to receive an offer on 21 December from Flinders? or is changing Flinders to 1st pref a safer option?

thanks

edit:
also interesting to note that Curtin initially said they will first release course offers 20 Jan (TISC round 2), while UWA said TISC round 1 (23 Dec) in the in-person information session. Recently Curtin has revised that statement in their admissions guide to say they will also send offers in round 1.
potentially we could see adelaide or flinders change date so they are the same in order to avoid potential issues with different offer dates?

You can receive one on the 21st, regardless of preference if your able to score competitively

I believe you'd need to place Flinders as your top preference prior to the December offer round if SATAC and UAC operate in the same manner.

I received an email from Adelaide Uni saying

"To receive an offer to Adelaide, we encourage you to reflect that in your preferences by including us as first preference and as many in preferences 2-6 as possible."

Just wondering if putting Adelaide Bonded above Flinders might increase my chances of getting Adelaide Bonded? I currently have Flinders above Adelaide Bonded.

My estimated ATAR range is 99.5 - 99.7 and I have 98th UCAT. I do not have UES. My chances for Flinders are zero right? So in that case I may as well put Adelaide Bonded over Flinders just in case Adelaide looks at preferences? Or does Adelaide not consider preferences and this is a pointless exercise?

UAdel has not looked at preferences previously. And yes, you’re right, even 99.7 is so very unlikely to be competitive for Flinders (though is it also possible you surprise yourself?).

Just a random thought, if Griffith Dent looked at preferences this year, do you think Griffith MD / USC MD might take into account preferences this year? Or is this me worrying excessively... Thanks

Hey,
Just wanted to ask something a bit confusing. As a gap year student, I noticed that uac has 1st round offers on the 13th of Jan. As I already have my atar, does that mean I will be able to receive an offer on the 13th as opposed to the post atar round? If so does that mean I can preference wsu first and then put unsw first for 2nd round. This will allow me to avoid possibly getting bonded or another campus away from sydney (port maq unsw campus or wagga)

Please let me know if I am wrong.

Thanks

Not how it works universities need everyones ATAR so they can finalise ranking lists.... Personally I don't know why this can't happen with JMP/WSU as the criteria they use to offer selection doesn't include ATAR however people still need to meet minimum ATAR requirements. What this means for you is someone could not meet the hurdle for ATAR but be ranked higher than you meaning you receive an offer or a CSP instead of a BMP.

Now I asked this question earlier this year, and whilst it makes sense that if your in the running to receive an offer regardless i.e in the top lets say 50 applicants you could be made an offer realistically it won't happen as they like to release the majority of offers together. Atleast that was my understanding. A1/@LMG may be able to clarify further.

I had a question on the JPM offer allocation for rural students,
If hypothetically a rural student preferred WSU but missed out on a WSU offer by one place so out of the ranked rural applicants they were number 16 and someone declined their offer out of the 15 would they get that offer? Or given that their score is higher than people who preferred CSU and their in those top 30 applicants would they be given a CSU offer and once a person has declined their WSU offer would that offer be handed to someone who preferred WSU but didn't get into CSU?

Looking at the 2021 offer thread, I'm pretty sure I saw that someone who had pref'd WSU, had gotten a CSU offer for the 1st round, so I'm under the impression that if rural applicants who prefer wsu rank higher than csu applicants then they will be given a csu offer and wsu top ups will be given to students who are ranked lower in the list. Please let me know if I've got it wrong.

Hello, I have seen posts regarding UNSW vs WSU preferencing, but is there any issue/strategic preferencing involved for UNSW vs JMP?

Strategically position the one you want most ;)

On a more serious note no their really isnt as far as we are aware all invites for both WSU and UNSW are released on the 26th of January, meaning if you qualify for both you will only receive the one you have preference higher. You can arrange preferences between rounds and hope you get a top-up offer and get to chose between the two offers but the crux of it is just preference whatever offer you would prefer higher.

thanks! I think there were issues about bonded vs unbonded because generally people prefer unbonded positions. So if I got UNSW bonded but could instead get JMP unbonded, does that change things up?

That does change things up slightly if bonded vs unbonded is your primary concern you should preference as follows

High ATAR + High UCAT UNSW>WSU>JMP
High UCAT + Low ATAR WSU>JMP>UNSW
Low ATAR + Low UCAT JMP>WSU>UNSW

This is due to the difference in their criteria for offer JMP relies on solely the interview when determining who to offer a place to so if you have a comparatively low ATAR + UCAT this will not disadvantage you at all making it easier to secure a unbonded position.

UNSW accounts for both ATAR and UCAT when making an offer so if you have a super high ATAR+UCAT it would make sense to preference this first as you may only need to score better in the interview than 30-40% of applicants to receive an unbonded offer compare this with JMP and WSU this is extremely favourable

WSU says that 25% of the weighting for the offer is put on UCAT and the rest interview so hypothetically it should be easier to secure a unbonded place here if you have a higher UCAT score ATAR is not considered at all if you pass the threshold

Unfortunately UAC does not account for you preferring an unbounded offer over a bonded one so if you have JMP higher than UNSW and you qualify for an unbonded offer at UNSW but a bonded at JMP you will only receive the bonded offer.

This is so helpful!! Thank you so much for your time to explain it :)

what would you say a high atar is?
